Duchess of Kingston Build Video 17

The Duchess comes with 6 deck guns that you need to build up! There aren't any instructions for rigging the guns and while I have plenty of references I decided to go for a cleaner look and stick to one main line that looks right for the scale.

I have used a lot of "Brass Black" on my muzzleloader builds and I have found when I let the brass in the solution for too long of a period I would get that buildup of dusty black powder from over oxidizing, try dipping your parts just long enough to get the color then rinse in cold water and let them dry on a paper towel after drying it helps to wipe them with a cloth to get a satin black look...works for me.

Hey Ben , you can should dilute the black brass solution with some water to reduce the aggression of the acid, try to add 15%-25% for better results, and then you can also use the diluted solution for longer usage. 18:10

You should use a dry brush to wipe off the residue after drying so they look like tarnished and used pewter/ iron

Check the cannon wheels. Usually the larger wheels are on the front of the carriage & smaller are on the rear. Sometimes the cannon barrels have to be elevated slightly to be level due to the curvature of the deck. Your dab of CA is an awful lot sir. 😮 Ship is looking good sir.

The cannon ropes would have been tight, along with the holdback rope to keep the cannons from rolling around as the ship rocked in the waves. Nice work!

the triangles were originally brass and called brass monkeys, and in really cold winters the balls would fall out due to the different rates of shrinkage between iron and brass. if you have heard the saying freezing the balls off a brass monkey - that's where it came from
