@@QuackProductionsChannel hi, I just adopted my first ever duckling. It was the smallest of all of them and very skinny so I took it in. I'm not so sure if it's a drake or a hen, I am not experienced enough to vent check and I don't want to cause any injury. It has down that is murky Brown in color, has a very dark blackish beak, as well as dark blackish feet and webbing. I've watched a couple of videos to determine what type of duck it is and what gender it could be.I am trying to contact some duck experts or breeders that are experienced enough to determine what my duckling is based on its size and color as of now. When I leave the room it has a very loud peep and I mean really loud. It runs like a runner duck however when it's stationary it doesn't stand up straight at all. I haven't left It's side for days and it has slept under my shirt to keep warm. my heating pad only lasts for 2 hours and then it turns off and I just didn't want to leave the duckling in its sleep kennel where it could freeze. I'm not so sure if that's a good or a bad thing in the long run when it gets bigger. Because now the duckling has to have me in its eyesight or it starts peeping. I also live in an apartment which is relatively small for a duck but as a duckling it's perfectly fine. I don't know if I should keep it by my side when it's an adult or possibly find it a farm or someone that has wide space for it. Anyways it seems Hank is very attached to you and I find that endearing. is there a possibly any suggestions on what my duckling is and what I should do in the future please let me know.

I have three little ducks that look like appleyards, one is lighter but they all have the head stripe, no eye stripe, and that slight tinge to their feathering… One thing you didn’t mention though are the tails! When I look online silver appleyards have dark tails, and the three I have do. Hope I have that right, I went to rural king with a plan to get that breed! :) I have a 4th duckling who is DARK, I think black not chocolate. My fingers are crossed for a beautiful Cayuga!

You win for the Avatar reference, love it! Also this was very helpful, TSC said all the ducklings were Rouen but we clearly got some black swedish and Rouen, it looked like they had some Khaki Campbells, and Pekins in there as well. Looks like we picked right, thank you!

@@lordwife congratulations, I hope they're all you hoped for. I started off with chickens and then bought a bunch of khakis. I make challah every week, and the chicken eggs were way better than the storebought, but the khaki eggs were even way better than those. If you bake, you'll be very lucky once they start laying.

Amazing pictures, very detailed descriptions, and a great command of the English language to explain the difference. By researching online pictures I had a pretty good idea but this video confirmed my suspicions. I feel very confident now that I know which ducks I have. This was a spectacular video. A++ This is a wonderful resource. (I reserve to withdraw my comments in a few months if I was wrong about my ducks but I don’t think I’ll have to.)

Oh my gosh, I've watched several of your videos so far and you've been so helpful! I'm a first time duck owner (my husband purchased 6 from tractor supply). Based on this video, I definitely think I have two Pekins and possibly a Cayuga or black runner. The other three, I'm having a really hard time identifying. So many ducklings look similar when they're young. Mine are a little over 3 weeks old now and two if them, I have no clue about. The other...maybe a Rouen? I just dont know!! Lol

What are the dark brown and yellow striped ones?
@sophieburt92612 жыл бұрын
Mallards are the most common type of domestic duck and the ducklings will have brown coloring near their eyes, on their heads, backs, wings and tails while the rest of their bodies are yellow. Look for body characteristics If your ducklings are accompanied by a parent duck, it will be much easier to figure out their breed. However, buying a duckling at a feed store or other retailer might not always come with a description of the breed for sale. Know duckling characteristics to get an idea of what type of duckling you might be bringing home. Ducklings come in various combinations of just a few basic colors. Yellow ducks will grow up to be white or buff-colored ducks as adults. Brown and white duck breeds are often downy yellow with shadowy brownish sections that can resemble dust or dirt. Black and yellow ducks are likely mallards, wood ducks, Rouens, and black and brown "ducklings" usually grow up to be geese. Other ducks' down might be gray or brown. To get a better idea of breed, look to a duck's body build, how it holds itself, its markings, and the color of its beak and feet. Most ducks are short and squatty, but meat breeds will be wide at the chest, and Indian Runners appear tall and skinny. Feet and beaks of various duck breeds might be yellow, orange, gray, bluish, black, or brown. Search online for types of ducks with pictures to get an idea of baby duck identification. Pekin ducks are the most commonly kept duck breed. They provide 95 percent of the duck meat consumed in the United States and have a broad-breasted long body. Pekin ducks match the mental image most people have when they envision a hatchling; the young ducks are covered in yellow down and have orange beaks and feet. Indian runner ducks are the easiest duckling breed to identify, no matter their color. Their posture differs from that of most other ducks in that they stand stretched up vertically as opposed to the more squatted posture of other breeds. Although runner ducklings are often yellow, they occur in a wide variety of colors and patterns. Yellow ducklings might have patches of brown indicating that they'll be fawn or white. Some are blue-gray and chocolate. However, all Indian runners have their characteristic "standing tall" posture.

I have some young ducks and they are not to fond of people. How can I get them used to us? I’ve been holding them every day but any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
@QuackProductionsChannel2 жыл бұрын
Handling them daily and controlling their food is the best way to get them to like you. If you only feed them at a certain time each day they will understand that you are the feeder and if you handle them and hand feed them daily then they're much more likely to like you!

Hi! If you're not able to care for it then I would suggest reaching out to some wildlife rescues in your area to see if they will take it in. I doubt anyone is going to arrest you for rescuing an abandoned wild duck. Make sure that it has non medicated crumble and water with either electrolytes or NutriDrench in it. You can also add a sprinkle of Brewers Yeast to its food to help it's bones get nice and strong. Thank you for rescuing the little one :). As someone who rescues tons of dumped domestic ducks every year, it always warms my heart when others do the same, even if they are wild. They still deserve a chance to live.

Wood Ducks have a unique shape among ducks-a boxy, crested head, a thin neck, and a long, broad tail. In flight, they hold their head up high, sometimes bobbing it. Overall, their silhouette shows a skinny neck, long body, thick tail, and short wings

How can i tell if i have a duckling or gosling
@sophieburt92612 жыл бұрын
Goslings can be distinguished from ducklings, however, based on their larger size and longer necks, as well as a more triangular bill shape. Ducklings, on the other hand, have more flattened, spatulate-shaped bills, are significantly smaller, and have shorter, more compact necks than baby geese.

Khaki Campbell ducks somewhat resemble their Mallard ancestors. Their bodies are lightly covered in khaki plumage, but their dark brown heads with a sometimes olive green cast quickly differentiate them from the wild breed. The Khaki Campbell ducks also do not boast a white ring around the neck like Mallards.
