I still really love Money Game 1... something special about the 'live' performance. But this is absolutely sick. When he launches into "Expand, expand, expand"... Man, so much power! There are so many things I love about this song. Just a few; there is the setup of the word 'America!'; just for split second you might be thinking this is heading in the direction of singling out the USA for criticism...........but immediately the mirror is held up to the situation in the UK.......very much following a theme in Part 1; as long as focus on someone else you can avoid addressing your own problems. Secondly, he used a nursery rhyme to explain political economy better than a college degree! I assume the germ of the idea came from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (where leaves are chosen as money so the forests get burnt down to increase their value). Then there is the double play of meaning in Hi Ren (not only using the example of She Sells Sea Shells as a general example of lack of originality, but also a specific slight to his own previous work). Natural flow, flawless writing, and it's a freaking triple just thrown in there in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment: 1. Economics: Conglomerates are in business in multiple, differentiated industries. Sell sea shells for keepsakes or art, sell oil for travel and heating/power. 2. Back to demand - there's a finite supply of oil, with high, HIGH demand. Perceived scarcity, high demand... MONEY. 3. Shell Oil. He's obliquely referencing the already-huge Shell Oil Company. While Shell Oil isn't TECHNICALLY a conglomerate, it IS diversified throughout the Energy industry. It has business in exploration, production, refining, AND marketing of oil and gas. And they are supposedly aiming for the Sustainable Energy segment of the Energy Industry, while simultaneously threatening the sea shells being sold with offshore drilling (thus increasing the perceived sense of SCARCITY of pristine sea shells). The deeper I go down the Ren rabbit hole the more fun tidbits I find. Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but if you look at the Shell Oil company history page they LITERALLY started by selling seashells. No joke. This is directly from the Shell website: “From seashells to the world of oil In 1833, Marcus Samuel decided to expand his London business. He already sold antiques but decided to try selling oriental seashells as well, capitalising on their popularity in the interior design industry at that time. The demand was so great that he began importing the shells from the Far East, laying the foundations for an import-export business that would ultimately become one of the world’s leading energy companies.” It wasn’t until the 1880s that they started expanding into oil. "Which do you like more, rap or singing..." it's the package. Same reason I lover Prince and Peter Gabriel. Although... I have to say, I think Ren has impacted me even more than those. I'm a former recording engineer. I always would tell my assistants and the interns, "You can have lound without quiet. You can't have big without small, you can't have dark without bright." That's why Ren is so great. First, killer lyrics, then the contrast between his parts, hist singing vs. rapping, ambient then dry that pops. It's like every word has the perfect support by instrubments, effects, visiuals, etc.

Gr8 reaction but you kinda missed the point of the “Sea Shells”, the whole money game revolves around it, it’s the same with diamonds, gold, oil, etc, they are all like the sea shells by the sea shore that are hidden to increase it’s value. I may be wrong but the way you addressed it was like they were just random words… Also yes he mocks this music in Hi Ren which is very unique and gives some extra meaning to that part of the dialogue ( or monologue 😂)

As for favorites in regards to ren I have a favorite for each genre. Power is my favorite rap from ren, chalk outlines is my favorite singing (and its my favoritefrom him and chinchilla), from him and sam its what went wrong part 1, from the big push is swan song, from him and bibi its ahihihio (I know I got that name wrong but thats a pain to get right😅) from him and eden nash I prefer ocean, from his busking my favorite is I shot the sherrif/ road to zion/ hip-hop. 😂 its so difficult to find a single favorite so I just picked out of each genre he does.
