A cheat sheet to defend Christianity, here's four questions for you... if you have faith, why do you need evidence to reaffirm your beliefs? Why is it that Christianity has adapted to function alongside science and not vice versa? Why did God create humanity, if in genesis he said he wished he never had? And, how did Moses write about his own death?

@MarkSeiler as a Christian I don't need evidence, The Bible is all the evidence I need. And what you said about science is the exact opposite science has to keep up with the revelations that the Bible told us about thousands of years ago but you probably didn't know that if you don't study the Bible.

How do determine what an obsticle is without knowing what you destination or goal is? What is the ultimate goal of Taoism? Person happiness? Selflessness? Immortality? Survival?
@thienfoil
@thienfoil Жыл бұрын
@@johnsmith2797 The point of the tao is nothing. There's no beginning or end, there's no set goal. Like nature has no goals, no final destination. It is just is... living in it natural form, whatever that might be. Goals assume destination, but daoist believe in something that would be similar to an interpretive dance: you're not going any where, there's no accomplishment after it, you dont exactly know where youd be during it. You dont care, the point of the dance is just dancing. "Obstacle" is what you want it to be innately that you want to overcome, if it something that you feel like it's not in your innate being, then dont bother with it
@thisnameisnotfake517
@thisnameisnotfake517 Жыл бұрын
@@johnsmith2797 It seems like the most fascinating paradox of taoism, but the beautiful thing is that it isn't. We come into this universe as human animals and leave as defined egos. Every individual ego is different, molded from their upbringing, country, parents, culture. I could have been born to different parent and have a completely different ego and not be writing this comment, but here we are. So, to address question in the video: There is NO moral code in taoism. NONE. Every individual ego decides their own code which is molded from their ego as I described. The strength of our code is a testament to the strength of our spiritual self. Our dominance of our spiritual self over our animal duality. An animal would not light themselves on fire, and yet Thích Quảng Đức, a Buddhist monk, lit himself on fire in a town square in Vietnam to protest the governments oppression of his people. His code was like iron. Taoism is unique in that it refers to all of humanity regardless of their religious orientation. A Buddhist, priest, rabbi, or your local gas station clerk could be spiritually awakened. The Tao or the universe, is also unfair, chaotic, and random. It might take the life of an innocent child by a freak accident, murderers and rapists exist too. Bad people exist in the Tao, the point is that you must follow your own divine destiny in spite of the others whatever that may be. Peace to you John.

The dude failed because he didn't understand the deep meaning of Lao Tzu. Let's understand this with a simple example. If you get hungry, you won't just sit and wait for the death saying im going according to the universe. No, you will eat something. If you have no shelter, you will do something that can get you shelter. So, the meaning of "being one with the universe" means whatever situation the universe is giving to you, act accordingly but don't demand anything other than that. In that demanding, there is struggle, stress, anger etc etc & once you achieve that thing, you will demand for more & more. Which will create the habit of demanding and taking stress. It will also make you forget what satisfaction is, what happiness is. Becuase in stress / struggle, there is no satisfaction and happiness.

@salvas7376 Then I ask you, why are religions forced upon people? I’ll tell you why, because they aren’t meant to be. It’s a trick question. As Christians, we want another person to understand our beliefs because we want to save them from hell, realize what Jesus has done for them, and also because it’s part of the Great Commission. However, I would also say a lot of Christians are too forceful, for example the old kings and queens of England who either influenced Catholic or Protestant beliefs. This makes a religion seem to forceful, but that’s not the point.

@@History101-lm3pp I understand 1st they evangelicals are the biggest preachers of hell. So he as a Taoist would actually understand what Jesus has done for us and that was to bring actual liberation (huge word) now to save Ilya from the hell we ourselves as a group and individuals create . Now the basic hell of evangelicals … the one where a huge majority of the population they had ever existed… and were there is eternal damnation… but hey is either created by the Gospel you believe which is extremely cruel of a savior (not savior at this point) or he has an equally powerful opposite The devil. Looking at Jesus story through the eyes of Taoism, Buddhism and other Easter religions makes he more of a liberator then through evangelical type of Christianity and all those they believe in eternal Dalmatian in a painful hell. It also quickly shows the foolishness of this eternal punisher because it means he is creating humans to then tanto them and send most of them to punishment. Daoism doesn't drop morals. Going with the flow of the universe does not mean going with the flow of the nazis. lol. If you are going with the flow, and the universe presents you with nazis, the flow may present you with other people resisting nazis or all the right information for you to be able to act upon to resist, to which is the path of least resistance for you to flow with. The flow of the universe doesn't disregard you, your life, your likes and dislikes, needs, beliefs, thoughts, and feelings. I've encountered this myself, actually. Sometimes the path of least resistance has been the path of most resistance for governments (ego and collective ego), attorneys, and boots in your face. If the government is trying to take away your humanity and very presence, the only choice left is to be so dang human and daoist, there is no other option left for them. The would rather weaponize their codes and statutes against my presence, so be it. I accept they may commit violence and even try to murder me for insisting on flowing with them as myself. There can be no other way.

His question on whether he would resist a cruel war of aggression, there is nothing to resist if he did not commit and if he were to take up arms against it, he moves like water, the rock so hard may part water, but the water, in the end always finds its way.

Exactly, as I understand it a Daoist approach to the Nazis would essentially be one of resistance in the sense that the error in thier ways is recognized but also non-violent and leading by example of how we should live. Much like Ghandi or MLK. The speaker at the event (don't know who he is) is right for discussing how various philosophies would approach the Nazis, but I think his mistake is he seems the type to say "without objective morality then people are just gonna do whatever they want and kill each other". People look for certainty and order and in trying to make sense of things we create these catagories and rules that aren't really there. Best book I've read on this particular issue is Simone de Beauvoir's "The Ethics of Ambiguity"

One of my favorite chapters. It acknowledges that "violence never solves anything" is BS in the absolute sense, but at the same time criticizes anyone that has a bloodlust or perverse joy in combat or war. It's a grave shame to fight because it leads to negative consequences for at least some parties no matter what. In general, it's always more fruitful to cooperate and live and let live, instead of trying to rule over others.

By his own hand he is doomed and all creatures are likely to despise him One who knows the tao never turns from life's calling. When at home he honors the side of rest. When at war he honors the side of action. Peace and tranquility are what he holds most dear so he does not obtain weapons, But when their use is unavoidable he employs them with fortitude and zeal. Do not flaunt your excellence. Do not rejoice over victory. With the loss of others, weep with sorrow and grief. After winning a battle do not celebrate, observe the rites of a funeral. What if the prey was thousands of cattle caged & fattened for slaughter by predators that don't care to learn where their steak dinner came from? I don't know that daoism necessarily is intrinsically pacifistic. "Wu Wei", a core principle of daoism which is often translated as "non action", is more of a path of least resistance concept that relates to inner struggle rather than actual physical tasks and choices in the real world, from my understanding. So aphorisms like "The sage acts by not acting" may mean something like, for instance, "don't over think it till you get anxious and make dumb decitions" rather than something more literal like "be one with nature, don't do anything at all, meditate until you die of starvation" So Daoism speaks to the notion of an inner intuition that, if followed, will have you do no more or less than what are the right things for you to do. If that involves fighting nazis, that's fine as long as that's what makes sense for you to do. However, it does imply that through meditation, you may truly learn to know yourself, and in so doing you will become deeply compassionate and hence, violence will rarely make sense.

Repent of your sins and believe on Adonai Jesus Christ, believe in your heart that He has died for sins and rose from the tomb on the third day and let the Holy Spirit within you, and you shall be saved. - Jesus the Christ loves you, praise YHWH our Elohim - Evidence for Jesus Christ’s existence, crucifixion, and disappearance from the tomb (He rose from it): The Lord Jesus Christ did exist, gathered disciples, and was crucified and went missing from the tomb. To argue about wether He was taken from the grave or rose from it, is an argument a skeptic can make. Because well if you disregard the eye witness testimony of the disciples and there willingness to die for Christ, and humans won’t die for something they know is a lie, when Peter is pinned upside down to that cross, he could have said that it was a fake, but He didn’t because it wasn’t, what care would he have about death in this world if he knew for a fact he had assurance of a life in another, Jesus Christ did rise from the tomb and is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Now the evidence for the Lord Jesus Christ’s existence really isn’t hard to find a multitude of non-Christian scholars and historians mention Him within 150 years after the time of His life. One such is Tacitus a Roman historian who reported on emperor nero’s decision to blame the Christians for the fire that had destroyed rome in 64 AD. Tacitus wrote: “Nero fastened the guilt ... on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of ... Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome…” In this Tacitus makes reference to not only Christians, but Christ calling Him Christus and confirming the Gospels going on to say that He suffered the extreme penalty (crucifixion) under the reign of Tiberius and by the sentence of Pontius Pilate, which like I said confirms the Gospels narrative. Another important source of evidence about Jesus and early Christianity can be found in the letters of Pliny the Younger to Emperor Trajan. Pliny was the Roman governor of Bithynia in Asia Minor. In one of his letters, dated around A.D. 112, he asks Trajan's advice about the appropriate way to conduct legal proceedings against those accused of being Christians. Pliny says that he needed to consult the emperor about this issue because a great multitude of every age, class, and sex stood accused of Christianity. At one point in his letter, Pliny relates some of the information he has learned about these Christians: “They were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verses a hymn to Christ, as to a god, and bound themselves by a solemn oath, not to any wicked deeds, but never to commit any fraud, theft or adultery, never to falsify their word, nor deny a trust when they should be called upon to deliver it up; after which it was their custom to separate, and then reassemble to partake of food - but food of an ordinary and innocent kind.” This passage provides a number of interesting insights into the beliefs and practices of early Christians. First, we see that Christians regularly met on a certain fixed day for worship. Second, their worship was directed to Christ, demonstrating that they firmly believed in His divinity. Furthermore, one scholar interprets Pliny's statement that hymns were sung to Christ, "as to a god", as a reference to the rather distinctive fact that, "unlike other gods who were worshipped, Christ was a person who had lived on earth." If this interpretation is correct, Pliny understood that Christians were worshipping an actual historical person as God! Of course, this agrees perfectly with the New Testament doctrine that Jesus was both God and man. You may have heard of the scholar Flavius Josephus who mentioned James as being the brother of the Lord Jesus Christ, which matches what Paul said calling James “The Lord’s brother” and there is another document that Josephus may have written which goes: “About this time there lived Jesus, a wise man, if indeed one ought to call him a man. For he ... wrought surprising feats.... He was the Christ. When Pilate ...condemned him to be crucified, those who had . . . come to love him did not give up their affection for him. On the third day he appeared ... restored to life.... And the tribe of Christians ... has ... not disappeared.” Now it’s up to debate wether this is the entirely original document of what Josephus wrote, or if a Christian had edited it. But regardless he wrote about the Lord Jesus Christ. Wether it was negative or positive like the possible document is. Anyways there are many other statements, documents, letters, and writings of all sorts from the ancient world talking about the Lord Jesus Christ and there is not one question if He was a real person or if He was crucified and went missing from the grave. That is clear as day, He is a real person, was crucified, and went missing from the grave. And He did rise from the grave. And for more evidence of the Lord Jesus Christ, there’s the Bible and you see there is no evidence the Bible is corrupted, a lie, created by the Roman government, folktale. It is the recount of the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, now wether you want to believe it is up to you. And what profit was there in spreading Christianity, All the early Christian suffered persecution, beatings, and were killed. Another Scholar reported that James the Lord’s Brother was thrown off a building and then stoned to death for spreading the Gospel in Jerusalem. These people went to great lengths even giving their own lives for the Adon Jesus the Christ.

@@jasonbabilonia3037 Repent of your sins and believe on Adonai Jesus Christ, believe in your heart that He has died for sins and rose from the tomb on the third day and let the Holy Spirit within you, and you shall be saved. Still the right answer. Everything in nature defends itself. Dogs, cats, butterflies, lions, monkeys, plants, frogs, kangaroos, etc. all defend themselves almost immediately after they are oppressed. Perfectly natural. That is why there is chapters dedicated to warfare in the Tao Te Ching.

Resistance and conflict are parts of human nature. If you are inspired to stand up for something or join a cause, you are still following the Tao. This young man was touched by Taoism but forgot that nature is not necessarily peaceful. Protection of, and service to others is essential.

I wonder if the man trying to impose his will on the younger man has ever read the Tao te Ching. Based on his actions I’m inclined to think he has not. Anyone saying the younger man was ‘wrong’ who hasn’t studied the Tao is not offering any valuable contribution here.

The speaker is the Christian Frank Turek and he's known for lying. Both here don't understand Taoism, which had a huge impact on Chinese military history -- even Sun Tzu stated that the ideal general is an enlightened Taoism master. The young guy was naive in thinking that a Christian, which is impelled by his scripture to convert others, would have his best interests in mind. Nevermind that the Bible condones perpetual slavery, even of children, and the killing of unbelievers -- nor that the Cath Church were the biggest supporters of Nazi Germany. The Christian spotted a gullible young man and grabbed him. Interestingly enough, the ancient Greek Celsus spoke about this when observing the earliest Christians preaching: they would only go for the ignorant and disabled and throughly avoided the bright and learned because those were anathema to their BS.

These fellows have an inherent bias to prove christianity as great. Tao is he greatest standpoint. There have even been warriors who were disciples of Lao Tzu. It is a receptive approach to life. If some want to oppress another, they are unnatural, mentally pathological, anti-life. Tao is not supporting any anti-life pathological behavior. Humans have to rise higher in their humanity More humane. Gentle, fearless, serene, spontaneous and responsive. Capable of fighting and protecting ur dignity and freedom when required. Tao is not even against science. Christianity was never a friend to science. The renaissance was a rebellion against christianity. All the tech, scientific knowledge, and social equality and rights are works of those who ventured to explore truth and creativity. Not by some religion telling them 'this is how it is' Busshism could merge with Tao to give birth to Zen. Zen is a freedom to explore, to quest, to rebel, to be creative, natural, serene, gentle and loving. Just live as alert, mindful in each moment, committed to ur act. Self aware. And vibe with those who also create a life as such. Relax. Accept ur body. Observe life. Respect the life thriving in this vst universe. Live simple. Light hearted. Contribute to the world with ur intelligence, abilities, ur humane qualities. Religions as such, especially the politically charged ones today, have no such contribution, no such standpoint.
