As I learnt in year 1 of aeronautical engineering, planes fly with magic (and differences in air pressure below and over the wing, but mostly magic).
@Broockle
@Broockle 2 жыл бұрын
I heard that's a lie. There's a video from Neil deGrasse Tyson who put it super simple. It's a mix of conservation of momentum and angle of attack. The wing is blasting against the air molecules and impart their momentum to the wing. With the angle of the wing you can then direct this normal force to go straight up or diagonal.
@ignasicortes8481
@ignasicortes8481 2 жыл бұрын
@@Broockle granted, but the normal force occurs in the first place because of the pressure difference. Higher angles of attack cause greater pressure differences, increasing lift (however high angles induce massive drag as well, so it’s a fine balance).

@@ignasicortes8481 O, I have absolutely no doubt about your qualifications. It's just that the education system especially in the sciences often tell over simplifications that don't quite care about reality. Even more especially if you're an engineer you're only going to be tasked to fix and design stuff in the real world. So to an aerospace engineer these things are hardly important. But to a theoretical physicist and astronomer like Neil these things matter ;D And personally I think it's easier to understand than the than the pressure difference story. Just Conservation of momentum and Angle of attack.

@ZhongliArchonofSwag
@ZhongliArchonofSwag 2 жыл бұрын
I mean, in theory that’s not wrong. Your forward momentum is allowing the air passing beneath you to hold you up, generating lift. But that’s just broad strokes. It’s another step entirely to go from there all the way to building a plane or reapplying that knowledge.
@incinemvs
@incinemvs 2 жыл бұрын
@@ZhongliArchonofSwag I know that I’m kind of restating what you said, but I just want to re-emphasize it because I really don’t like when people undermine the knowledge and experience of professionals of any profession. While what he said technically made sense in that tweet, nobody is justified in saying that with the ignorance that he had. You can read up on something or hear what a profession is about and what it entails, but that in no way promises that you’ll be able to do it yourself all of a sudden, or that you’ll have equal insight on it as actual professionals do.
@jimm60701
@jimm60701 2 жыл бұрын
@@ZhongliArchonofSwag you kind of messed up your point though, that's not actually how a plane generates lift. You're close, but air passing under the wing doesn't "lift it up", in fact if it were only passing under the wing it would do the exact opposite. The shape of the wing is designed to encourage movement *over* the wing. Of course, air does still move under the wing, that's unavoidable, but it's the faster moving air over the wing that is responsible for the lift. I don't work in aircraft design or anything, and I'm certainly not going to pretend I could build a working airliner with this knowledge, but I thought it worth pointing out.

I astonishes me how confidently people will assert that they understand a field when they really only have scratched the surface. Actually, it sort of has a name "Dunning-Kruger effect" (famous example is a guy who put invisible ink on his face then robbed a bank without a mask because he was sure he wouldn't show up on the camera). Combine that with people who will dig in rather than admit being wrong and you have potential for some really terrible interactions. I personally have had people complaining to MY CITY COUNCIL about things the don't understand on this level, so I've been in this fight before, with my job on the line. The worst thing is that it almost always is a no-win scenario, just a lot of frustration and wasted time Great video from a dude in a room

Years ago when I was still an apprentice there was a particular frenemy of mine who had rich parents who I helped out by doing a small electrical job for, cash in hand off the books kinda thing that our trade is notorious for as far as the tax office is concerned. Anyway after observing me work for a few minutes my frenemy boldly declared that electrical work is simple and that even a monkey could do it. That made me fume with anger because he was an arrogant douche bag who had no idea what he was talking about. I exposed his lack of knowledge by asking him how he would connect a light switch to a light if it was such a simple job that even non human primates could do? He outed himself as being less capable than a monkey at something. congratulations Vugnell , you played yourself that day.

Either way, he probably needs some serious character development before he admits the wrongs in this particular opinion.

Absolutely, Liam of course, shouldn’t be ranting and berating people on Twitter, because it’s Twitter, Twitter is dumb, I figured he’d realize that he was just keeping this silly train ride moving but it is what it is. Joe on the other hand needs to really do a double take on himself, criticizing other people’s job and telling them what to do, while not having the slightest clue what he is talking about. No, the Twitter algorithm isn’t the same as KZbin, no subscribers don’t equal views, and the bigger your channel and content gets, the more you have to expand and the harder it gets. You have to keep an audience entertained, and if that includes, making a dumb title and thumbnail, that one may call clickbait, then it’s just the way it is

I really appreciate that he was able to admit that the way he said things was harsh. And while I agree with what he’s saying and can understand the reasons he said things the way he did, I think it would be much better for a more neutral initial response in case something like this happens again. Calling someone ignorant, even when it’s the case feels like it could be quite provocative, and doesn’t serve to allow a genuine discussion.

Never change Mr Dude in a Room! I have really learnt a lot about KZbin Content Creation from this channel which has made me less scared about creating content
@lesuu

Love this video, I really think it's entertaining and well made. I do think that you should have been more upfront about how people shouldn't harass Joe. Maybe I'm wrong and mentionning it once in the middle of the video was enough, but I've seen time and time again big KZbinrs make videos about another content creator just for that CC to get harassed into oblivion. Don't get me wrong, I'm not on Joe's side but I don't think he deserves all the potential harassment he'll get for this. Again, I might be talking out of my ass but I think the difference in following between you two is immeasurable and as such i think it might have been better to hide his name.

But again Joe was insulting a profession that Liam is a part of. Joe is clearly a lonely soul, you know the people who are smart enough to know he isn't dumb but to dumb to know he really isn't smart ( knowledgeable in a certain topics (all the ones he mentioned)). At it's core, a shocking number of careers, hobbies and ventures can be grossly oversimplifed. KZbinr - Talk at a camera and upload. Singer - Make nice mouth sounds. Drummer - Beat the shit out of your instrument. Salesman - Convince someone they want something. Carpenter - Cut, nail and glue wood. That in no way shape or form makes them easy. It is true one can have talent in a given field which gives them a head start or simplifies some aspects of it, but there is a VAST chasm between doing something -> doing something successfully -> Doing something well. Heck being a writer sounds like the easiest thing in the world. We all learned to write in school, to the point it's second nature. But understanding plot structure, composition, characterization, drama, all the little dynamic things that go INTO writing is far from simple. Taking all of that and composing it into something appealing is another several steps beyond, and actually being a 'SUCCESSFUL" writer? Good effing luck. This is actually the first time I've ever heard the definition of 'pretentious', and the fact he can boast about how easy it is to do something he's never done.... yeah that's the height of pretention right there.
