I think main reason being that these types of shows go for episodes and seasons for years with a lot plot to keep up with while modern dating reality tv shows are not only popular right now so they get more views but also are mostly 10 to 13 episodes so its easier to see 1 to 2 maybe even 3 episodes a video and be done with the season fairly quick not to mention it's entertaining seeing it with fresh eyes along with the guys

Sookie is in her early 20s. Edward from Twilight isn't really a good reference for vampire lore, he doesn't follow a lot of the traditional lore. Though yes, there are often vampires with some kind control and reading abilities, usually skimming the surface of thoughts and (more often) hypnotism. Vampires can't read minds in this, and Sookie can't read vampire's minds. Vampires can "glamour" or hypnotize people.

Sookie in the books in between 26-28 when the books first began if I’m not mistaken. I remember watching this show secretly and reading the books openly because my parents and every other adult assumed it was like twilight! 😂 I’m 30 now and was about 14/15 I think when the show aired! 😂
