It's hard to keep the front end down on the Kawa. You can see a wheelie in almost every race. That took half a second off of the drag time of the Kawa. All bikes are great. Ducati is a notch above if we're comparing in terms of sports naked. ZH2 is better for long rides. KTM is completely nuts. Aprilia and MV Agusta I'm not so intrigued.

Technically yes, we can safely test up to 1.500 m on our track. But the 400 m is an internationally accepted standard, that shows a number of features of each bike (torque, torque distribution, weigth, weight distribution, clutch feeling, electronics...) whereas the longer the race, the more sheer power/top speed become important. In an infinite race, you ultimately test only top speed. That's not so interesting we feel.

Why exactly? These are naked streetbikes. Is it realistic to think that these bikes should be used to jump to hyperspeed and appear in another galaxy, all while cruising in the city, cause these are streetfighters not racebikes. Drag races are the perfect test because they demonstrate what usable power these bikes have. It's just funny fo watch how a present day, horsepower laden Ducati loses to a 10 yr old Tuono, because the Tuono is much better adapfed to the conditions it's marketed for: streetfighting. 😂

Great video. You guys should do some roll on tests that would show more of the performance of the bike and not the rider.
@dueruote4 жыл бұрын
Hi Greg. We do not really get this "intrinsic bike performance" thing that many viewers seem to favor. When you do a drag race you assess in the process the torque amount; torque distribution over the rev line; clutch feeling and behavior; ability of the chassis to use the torque by limiting the wheeling of the bike and the spin of the rear wheel; ability of the electronics package to assist the chassis in doing so... and it's for free! All those aspects are relevant for a rider in a real street (or track) use of its bike, therefore we think the quarter mile drag race is good for the show bur good as well for the evaluation of the bikes. When you do a rolling test - viceversa, and possibly over greater distances - you essentially assess only the sheer power and power distribution of the engine. That's maybe interesting in itself, but we feel that it's a lot less interesting than a drag race from standstill. Even though the rider skills of course kick in - but that's how life goes, after all. But to level off things, in this tournament we drew the rider of each bike in each race - and had the same tyres for every bike, for instance. So while we're always thinking of new formats and tests, it's unlikely that we'll perform rolling starts. We hope you will keep following us nevertheless!
@bobaslavefett1114 жыл бұрын
@@dueruote A drag race from a rolling start still tests all those things you listed it just removes the variable of the rider getting a good launch and "winning" the race. If a rider gets a better launch than the other how is that testing the performance of the bike? A perfect example is the tuono beating the street fighter, the tuono has inferior electronics and is down on power, the only reason it won was because of a good start by the rider.
@dueruote4 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting point. We believe that there is no such thing as "intrinsic bike performance" as the influence of the rider (its weight, size, the way he moves forwards or backwards, the way he pulls the handlebar and so on) is never negligible. Not even in a rolling start test. The performance ALWAYS comes from the combination bike+rider - we have clear evidence of this on any race Sunday in MotoGP - and that is why we love motorcycles so much. The Tuono V4 is second to none in terms of electronics and we do not see why you assume it is inferior to the Streetfighter V4, or that our testers purposedly let the Aprilia win. The Tuono won because it has a better clutch feeling and makes it easier to pull a great start than the Streetfighter does. Additionally this was a tournament, meaning that to consistently get good starts is better rewarded than to get one exceptionally good start any two or three mediocre starts. It is not the rider who decided to start better with the Aprilia; rather, the Aprilia does a wonderful job in putting the rider at ease in any run: once again, it is the combination bike+rider that wins, and in a quarter mile drag race you most probably end up wanting to be the rider on that bike - even if the Ducati comes really close, and would surely win a 500 m drag race. Unfortunately, the 1/4 mile is a standard race and we do not want to set up arbitrary rules just to have a different winner!

@dueruote4 жыл бұрын

It looks like the ZH2 would be the overall winner since on both races it "lost", the front wheel went up... and at the later races, the difference between the competitors is huge. On the fight of ZH2 vs Aprilia, the wheel went up, but it was a draw... so what now if it didn't wheel up?
@dueruote3 жыл бұрын
Sorry but we do not get your point. Every single race is different and this is a tournament, so it can happen that different races have different outcomes if the two bikes are tied in performance. Yet the Tuono has been the most consistent, while the Z H2 has a lot of raw power but its electronics does not fully come to terms with it. The ability to convert torque into acceleration is the result of the combination of good chassis + good electronics, and the Aprilia has shown to have the best overall package, altough its engine is less powerful. "If it didn't wheel up" simply is not what it has happened.
@estoylaroca3 жыл бұрын
@@dueruote I also don't get your point. You can see with better management, the wheels didn't go up. You didn't have any electronics upgrade in-between rides, only an improvement in technique. It seems that you are blaming the motorcycle for the lack of technique of your rider. How would it be a fair comparison between the bikes if the rider component is vastly different between each race. Put a beginner on the Aprilla, and put a professional on the Duke, I'm sure you can guess who would win.
@dueruote3 жыл бұрын
Well, we drew straws on each race between our two guys, more or less equally apt in starts. They are both senior testers, of course you cannot rule out the human factor, but a lot of criticism has come from people who do believe in "intrinsic bike performance". There is no such thing unless you would love to live in a future fully ruled by machines (and still). The performance of the bike comes from a combination of sheer power, chassis, electronics, clutch behavior AND the way it all translates into feedback/feeling for the rider. The Tuono has won our race because it is largely better than any other in putting the rider at ease each time, making it simple to pull a good start. This is of capital importance in a tournament, whereas the Z H2 is one of the most difficult bikes to launch because of its tencency to wheel up. You are asking if without this tendency, or in that single, perfect launch out of 100 the Z H2 would win over any other bike? Probably so. But life - and races - are also made of the other 99 starts, and you cannot expect that anyone else waits for that perfect performance. The Tuono launches nearly perfect each time, with ease, and that's why it won. Imagine you are racing with your friends on an airport lane on a single run: if you had some experience of all these bikes, we're pretty sure that you would end up wanting to be on a Tuono, even if the some other bike is hypotetically faster.

Launching an MV is not easy...unless you've owned one long enough to know how simple it really is! I'm not surprise the Aprilia Tuono won because this bike might seem old and stale but in its umpteenth iteration it's perfect. I'm sure the 2020 Triumph Speed Triple 1050 Rs would have surprised the tester, had it been included.

Yes, with our Starlane Corsaro-R tool. But in a tornament we felt that they weren't relevant and won't publish them race by race. Sarebbe bello vedere come le varie centraline gestiscono l'accelerazione
@dueruote4 жыл бұрын

Great video and fun to watch. Did miss some numbers, but I guess I have to read the magazine for that :) I like all the bikes in this test., and I did consider Ducati, Aprilia, KTM and Z H2 this year. The Z H2 "won". It is like the video show, pretty difficult to "master" in a drag race. Short wheelbase, relatively "short" gearing = wheelies, wheelies, wheelies. Same with the KTM. My ex B-King was faster than my new Z H2 in a 0-100/200km/h and 0-400m test.. *by far*.. especially in 0-100 where the Z H2 is just darn "slow". Any 600 will match it there. A Street Triple will just annihilate the Z H2 from 0-100. Sad facts.. but I still enjoy my Z H2. As soon as someone "unleash" the beast ("crack open" the ECU) it will show it's real potential in power.. But on a dragstrip - stock chassi - it is not very useful.
@M4rkmcc214 жыл бұрын
The zh2 was pretty much the quickest bike here. So ur saying "any 600" will beat all these bikes? What planet u living on? Bking will never beat the zh2..zzr1400 is on par acceleration wise t the zh2..that has aero. Forget the bking..

@@M4rkmcc21 I own a Z H2 (unlike you I guess?). I have also owned a B-King and ridden/tested numerous powerful bikes. I do real life testing 0-100, 0-200, 1/4mile etc using the same equipment as "serious" testers. The Z H2 is very bad (stock) from 0-100. A good rider will get about 3.5sec from 0-100. From 100-200 it shines and will be on par with the fastest naked and even RR-models. The "old" S1000R will beat it hands down in 0-100 and 0-200 even if it has 30+HP less. Why? Because you will need to do serious mods with the Z H2 to get the power used for forward momentum(acceleration) and not doing wheelies (even in 4th on a cold day) :) The ECU will even in "sport" mode pull out timing and shut down the EV so the max G stays (in average) around 0.85 which if you do your math.. equals 0-100 in 3.5. Most decent 600cc bikes will also do that.. but the rider can give full throttle and not worry about flipping the bike. :)

@@TL1000S97 currently own a zh2 and a 19 tuono factory. Iv owned the 2020sdr and ridden the SF. By no means is the zh2 "slow" 0-100. Its one of if not the quickest bike here to the 1/4 on a good launch. Granted the bking can get a great 1/4mile but acceleration terms the zh2 has it licked. My zh2 can keep up with a zzr1400 and the owner of the zzr1400 admits its quicker than his old bking. Problem is the street triple will not annihilate the zh2 0-100. Either ur on looney land or ur choice of words for "slow" and "annihilate" are incorrect. Next time u race a street triple modulate ur throttle/clutch better to pass the little 115bhp bike.

@@M4rkmcc21 I am pretty sure the experienced tester Motorrad uses for their performance tests is *way more* competent than most keyboard warriors here :) I am just a bit obsessed with drag race/acceleration tests and I have equaled his result for 0-100 and 0-200 in my tests (VBox Sport/Dragy). If you do some research you will see that the Z H2 is not particular fast off the line/0-100km/h. It is mostly due to geometry and some due to gearing. The best results will be with "Rider" and TC=off. I am very happy with my Z H2 and it is a very fast and powerful bike, but still "hampered" with the derestricting in the ECU. This bike should not be derestricted and personally I can not get enough power. A ZZR1400 is much faster (and a lot easier) to launch/accelerate "on the strip" (or street). It is a reason why it is used by the best in the super stock class. It is very good for acceleration *stock*. The Z H2 will surely whop a ZZR1400 lowered/extended swingarm and with the restrictions removed in the ECU. Stock any fast 600 (street triple for example) will beat it from 0-100. Even a GSF1250 will easily beat it to 100km/h.. but then it is bye-bye of course. If you know anything about drag racing you will know that 0.5sec off from 0-100km/h is an eternity. I have lots of runs stored from testing my bikes (Race Logic sw/GPS data logs) and the Z H2 shines from about 180km/h even compared to my 1441cc 200+hp B-King. From 0-100/150 the B-King/GSX1000 just "kill it" (and they are plain easy to launch in comparison).

Partivano bene allo stacco e poi dai 150 metri in poi progredivano a velocità doppia rispetto a me, rifilandomi distacchi imbarazzanti.

So the V4S beat the ZH2. The ZH2 beat the Tuono. But the Tuono beat the V4S? How does that work?
@dueruote4 жыл бұрын
The Z H2 does not beat the Tuono, it's a draw. And then since many bikes are quite close, the outcome is not 100% deterministic. At the end, the best clutch feel helps the rider to achieve more often an optimal launch, which explains why the Tuono comes out the best. This is a tournament and the number of starts has an impact.

Hi Marius, we have measured each performance with a Starlane Corsaro-R very precise GPS lap timer.
