As much fun as they were having at listening to that old tape of duff it must have been scary for him because he was listening to himself basically slowly dying. One of the hardest parts of sobriety is when you have people get nostalgic and tell stories of crazy drinking times and it scares you because you can't get your head around why you were in that place and why you were self destructing.
