Actually, if you look up Duffy's story, she isn't playing off of anyone but the original northern soul artist's of the 60's. She grew up in a tiny town in Wales and the nearest music store was a 3 hour walk away. So the only thing to listen to, for her, were her parents' classic LP's. She taught herself to play and write music based off her inspiration. Then a label heard her and signed her because this sound is hot right now. But she writes her own lyrics and music.

Amy Duffy recorded her first three track single at a studio on Anglesey, North Wales, UK. Two of the tracks were in English and one was in Welsh. I was at the studio on one of her sessions. She came runner-up on a Welsh music programme called "Wow Factor in 2004.
