Dugout Shelter in the Sand - Camping, Crabbing, Cooking, in a Storm

Took a camping trip to the beach with my son's tiny shovel. Made a dugout shelter with a cheap harbor freight tarp deep in the sand. Heavy storm came in overnight and did some crabbing mid storm. Good fun outdoor as always!

idk about the rules in CA, but here in NY its illegal to be digging in the dunes because you're encouraging erosion. they dont even want people walking on the dunes because you loosen everything up which makes it easier to wash away

I know for a fact it is illegal in San Francisco, but the conservation was aimed at restoring dunes that we dug up to make concrete. Not sure how it is for the rest of California's coast, but I'd assume more places have similar rules for similar reasons.
