Excellent video as always =) I've noticed the cool animations on all the Gym Leader intros that have gotten them so far, great work! Honestly, it kinda makes me think about just how awkward the Giovanni fight is going to be in a FireRed solo challenge. For the huge majority of pokemon it'll be a very anti-climactic final gym, but for the electric types (especially first stage or weak electric types) it could be even more asymmetrical then Yellow version. Raichu had Brickbreak and Manectric will have Irontail, but for a lot of others it looks like it's gonna be a tough wall. Between that and the Bruno re-match the only thing that I can think of is using Sub-strats + Mimic to copy Earthquake from the Ryhorn/Steelix, but that's a lot of moveset investment and if it doesn't work at a reasonable level than I don't know what to do about it? Edit: oh no, I just realized that in Gen III you can't use Mimic to select Earthquake unless it's used against you... I'm sure you'll figure out something, even if it involves giving Giovanni back his Persian with Double Team =P

When you optimize Bruno 2 in future runs, you can always sub on Hitmonchan - Counter will fail on the sub turn, so if you hit the damage range you'll be facing Machamp with a sub up, and if you miss the damage range at least you didn't faint to Counter.

Man, I remember picking up a Diglett or Dugtrio (probably the latter) for Surge in my playthrough of Fire Red...and it lasted all the way through until I got myself an Aerodactyl. So the moment I saw what was being run, I already knew the final moveset because I more or less *ran* the majority of that moveset on my Dugtrio.

It's very funny to hear arena trap being worse than sand veil, from the perspective of a competitive singles player. Arena Trap is banned from almost every single format where Diglett and Dugtrio are allowed, because it's just so obscenely powerful.
@Agora00005 ай бұрын
Well, competitive is basically a game of knowing how to swap around your pokemon, while solo runs are a game of not changing them. That's why things like Stealth Rock, Roar, U-turn or even Teleport have been so prevalent in competitive, while they are not that good (or awful) in-game or in solo runs.

After watching this video there are a few things I would like to point out, to potentially improve future playthroughs / strategy: 25:00 that first Lorelei fight had a few small mistakes: 1. Knocking out Dewgong with Rock Slide, which is same power as EQ, but EQ is more accurate. 2. Trying to block Jynx with Substitute, while Lorelei's AI will always go for a move that KO's from your current hp if it has one. It didn't matter though. 3. Using EQ against Lapras. At this point, a ~6% crit chance on EQ vs a ~32% chance to either crit or flinch with Rock Slide, just makes Rock Slide give you actually decent odds at still winning from that position. 38:00 You talk about trying to make the Dragonite flinch by using Rock Slide, but Gen 3 Dragonite always has Inner Focus preventing it from flinching. Finally, in the last fight the Exeggutor was a big problem because it would be a 3HKO with Aerial Ace after the Giga Drain recovery it gets. Also, you have a Sludge Bomb TM and Rock Slide is not needed in this fight.

Wooo; my favourite Ground type and one of my original 6 Pokémon for my first ever Pokémon team. Here's wishing Dugtrio luck in striking hard and fast... because it's not like he can take any hits. 0:35 - Given how frail Diglett/Dugtrio are, I can see the benefit to Sand Veil in a solo run. A shame there are no natural Sandstorm areas in Kanto though. 2:52 - Given how common 7's and 8's are, it's amazing they give you Magnitude so early on. So much strength for a move often learned at low levels. Geodudes in Gen 3 and 4 could be right menaces thanks to it. 4:19 - In turn, the Diglett line and Slash were a right menace in Gen 1. Poor Onix; Defence is it's one claim to fame and you've one-shotted it here. 6:11 - I... actually would have made that same mistake. Well, perhaps I'd have replaced Magnitude for Dig, preferring the consistency of Dig in comparison. Still, I wouldn't have even thought about the Koffing and Rock Tomb's low PP. 7:44 - It always surprises me to look back and see that Dugtrio had under 90 Attack. It always felt so powerful; high crit rates as a kid likely gave me that impression. Still, Dugtrio proved a wonderful team member in both Red Version and Fire Red. 9:40 - I love how this was edited. Lt Surge just sees you have a Dugtrio and hands you his badge. Gosh, I wonder if he'll one day try to block off access to Diglett Tunnel. 13:23 - Who would have thought that Koffing would be Dugtrio's nemesis in this run. 14:51 - Weezing as well! The entire Koffing family is out to get your Dugtrio! 18:02 - Always nice to see a spot of bad luck balanced out by some good luck. 19:11 - I did notice that you spiced up the intros (and skipped Surge's). The foggy teleportation here is cool and I like Mr Mime setting up a barrier. 24:29 - I think this is the first flinch from Dugtrio's Rock Slide shown in this video. Nice to be able to see this flinch effect in play thanks to Dugtrio's speedy delivery of the attack. 26:30 - I was confused at first because I recall Gengar not having Levitate (which is why it can't compete in Sky Battles). Just looked it up and I see it did indeed use to have Levitate (and they got rid of Gengar having it right before Sky Battles, funny enough). 28:37 - An you didn't even need Sand Veil to achieve this dodge. Your rival's choice of power over accuracy has failed him. 31:14 - Dugtrio overcoming weaknesses nicely here. Rock Slide keeps flinching against Lorelei specifically and that high Special Defence the Ground type has proves handy for the slipping in Water and Ice attacks. 33:41 - Really odd that Lance has his Gyarados with Hyper Beam over Hydro Pump. 35:53 - Bug resists Ground and Heracross hits like a truck with physical damage, so I'm going to say the opening Heracross here. 38:29 - C'mon; Tyranitar has Aerial Ace!? I thought this would have been a cool moment when Sand Veil finally activates all this time and secures the win. 39:55 - Just squeezed into B tier; great results.

I know you're just doing it to get a feel for it, but I do like the idea of keeping a separate timer for the post game here. I've always kinda felt like that maybe should have happened with Steven in Emerald, since a lot of Pokemon have VERY drastically different times on that fight specifically, but obviously that shipped sailed. I think you should keep it separate here, since the times would definitely be vastly different and I think that's an interesting statistic to track.

I think versus the Exeggutor in the final Champion fight one thing I was noticing, and noticed a couple of times throughout honestly, is not using Rock Slide. I know Rock Slide can miss and that's not great, but there were definitely scenarios like in the first Lorelei fight where you took a line that might have worked out better with Rock Slide and didn't. I think that your odds of winning with Aerial Ace -> Rock Slide -> Aerial Ace against Exeggutor are a lot higher than just spamming Aerial Ace, and maybe this is because Rock Slide having a Flinch chance feels really new? Like Rock Slide basically isn't in Generation II at all with the exception of a few Pokemon so I think this might be you being very used to Gen I where it doesn't Flinch. This was a lot of fun though. Optimizing this I think is going to be a big pain, Dugtrio can probably squeak by with wins in certain scenarios by taking riskier lines.
