Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Forrest Gump, etc...) caught the motion capture animation bug in the 2000s w/ this film, Beowulf, & A Christmas Carol. As for the music, nearly all of his movies are scored by Alan Silvestri.

Someone pointed out to me that the girl also has her doubts about Santa, it's just shown super subtly to where it flies under the radar. How? By the "Are you sure?" thing. Sure, she SAYS she believes in everything, but there's still a little voice in the back of her head saying, "Are you sure?" That's why she freezes up whenever someone says that. What if she was wrong this whole time? What if all this is meaningless? So when they're at the North Pole, and she finally says, "Absolutely!", that was the film's way of telling us she now finally truly believes it's all real. That's why she didn't initially hear the bells.

Such a great movie. A lot of train museums that have train excursions around the country do a Polar Express Train Ride. The one we do is an hour round trip train ride to the North Pole where we get hot chocolate and cookies. They have hot cocoa dancers come on the train during the ride, the read the story and hand out books for kids to read along with and on the way back to the station Santa comes aboard and delivers the “first gift of Christmas” to everyone. First class riders get a commemorative mug. The Santa on the train this year is one who did it last year remembered my daughter and talked to her a bit on the train. It made her night. She’s autistic so something like that put her on cloud nine. When this movie came out the animation was brand new. Tom Hanks plays multiple characters in this movie. He plays the father, Hero Boy(main character), Conductor, Hobo , Scrooge and Santa. 7:00 yeah love how the kid told him to hit the brakes then when they possibly get in trouble he rats him out. 10:18 back in the olden days when trains were the main way to travel cross country they did that to stowaways. 11:33 remember when they rode by the toy store the boy saw a Santa in the window and it was a mechanic Santa. 12:03 they never say who the hobo is leaving it up to the reader (or watcher) to decide who he is. 17:11 they all represent different types of kids. The annoying one is the “know-it-all” kid who doesn’t listen to what anyone tells him. 23:27 what if the gift was what he actually wanted but because he opened it before Christmas it changed to socks. 26:31 that was Steven Tyler. 29:04 I took the letter that Santa left the boy and every year my daughter gets a small photo album with photos of the train ride from Santa.
