I also have the jewel case version of Duke: The Apocalypse & yeh, turns out you can have too much of a good thing. To be honest I just haven't gone through everything on the disk. Careful now, at this point just quoting lyrics could probably get you a copyright strike on KZbin, it’s not a Wide Open Space for transformative content & could leave you asking YMCA you got a DMCA strike? The Dark Forces & Doom like content is fun as I love all 3 games & honestly who wouldn’t like to play as duke in the other 2? 22:34 you left a couple of flubbed lines in there. Not the end of the world but I believe you can’t re-edit it without completely taking it down & re-uploading it? Fun video, thanks. Like I said I haven’t looked at everything on the disk but I’m tempted to take another look now.

Yeah there is just so much on the disk with the mods and maps! quoting obscure British 90s bands should be fine, right, maybe?..... and damn didn't notice those flubbed lines, I thought I'd checked it a few times but I was still recovering from what ever bug I picked up. I can't really do anything about it with out uploading a new video. but they are at the end so only the real fans will spot it!

In theory it shouldn't be a hard mod for those who know what they are doing, as they could just move them to the side of the screen. Some one could draw more, but that is way more work. but it would be interesting to see.

Interesting to see what exactly was on this one - I'd seen it around, but never played it. I had Duke!Zone 2 and it really was just a collection of levels grabbed from the internet, with a launcher that was a fair bit more basic than the one here. Be curious to see what you think of it.

I have this, and I LOVED it. The criticism it reveives today is because people are looking at it in the a world of things like eDuke32 and modernised Duke ports, and then exploring the maps it came with. The maps were just thrown together like most map packs at the time. The value in this thing came from the command center. The ability to manage maps easily edit and tweak stats, weapons, enemies, etc. That functionality was WELL worth the price (which was never that much, it was always a discount title).

This pack made me hate Duke 3D back in the day. It was bloody disturbing! Mind you, I think I would have hated the vanilla game anyway, had I ever see it (mods effed up my install so I gave up). Buuuuuut then I never got into Doom either so... take pity on me?? :/

Not sure if was an official expansion, but from everything I read it was licensed. and the company went on to make official ones.

I've definitely played that hoth level on the Steam Workshop of Megaton edition, I thiiiiink it was a William Gee map who is quite a beloved mapmaker but I'm not 100% on that

Damn dude, I would've killed for this when I was 10! I never once saw a mod back then and didn't even know it was possible. But I remember having a couple CDs with hundreds of maps.

The levels aren't made by the creators of this expansion, but rather taken from various sources on the internet at the time. You can tell that they're obviously made by different authors, as the quality and style changes drastically from map to map. Surprised you didn't notice that. For example, compare the atrocious texture work on level one, and the polished work on level two. And the level Pestilence looks like it's from another game entirely.

Based on the box and the information available, the levels were made by Sunstorm Interactive for this Add-on. they might still have been made by different people in the studio and made to different levels of quality.

A friend of mine had this in the 90s - the only thing I remember is the launcher for the Duke!Zone part of the expansion and the levels being extremely underwhelming. And of course the t-shirt (we were around 11-13 back then). So please do a follow up :)

I've not tried the Raze port, but most likely you will need to find the patched con files (I can't remember where I found them). or edit the con file so it has the list of maps inside it, and then point raze at that folder.

Just googled this because for some reason I remembered the cool startup music of Duke Xtreme out of the blue (or was it the installer...??). This pack seemed to have so much suff, but I could never make it run properly on my PC as a child :(

if u think about it, turning them into statues rather than ice is better. you're not going to have to deal with them again if ur situated from a distance, as they don't thaw.

It does mean you don't have to worry about them after, but you don't get that satisfying shatter when you break them with the mighty foot! or knife in this instance.

to play the maps it was a simple case of making a new folder and copying them over. you could then start them from the custom map menu. or there is a custom CON file that adds the maps in so you can play them like episodes as I did. if you want the mods then what I did was I ran the tool showed in the video that edited the CON file and then copied that into the folder with the maps.

Yeah, the silence uzi as they call it is a bit badly done. it switches between the new sprite and the old pistol depending on animations and the like.

Thank you for the review :) Its such a shock for me that such legendary game does not have really cool expansions packs and user maps... doom community did so much better job, but I like Duke more :(

It got a few fun ones like Duke it Out in DC and the additional levels they added for the most recent version. But I think it got held back due to being mostly limited to the original platforms for so long, same with the tools. Doom has quite a few level editors so there is more options for your style so Doom was able to build quite the modding community. Things changed a little with eDuke32 and the updated build engine.

There are a lot of cool user-made maps and mods for Duke 3D. You have Mod DB and Duke4Net where you can find most of them. There's stuff like The AMC Squad, Alien Armageddon, Blast Radius, Legacy Edition, Demon Throne, the EDuke32 Addon Compilation by NightFright, etc.

It was a weird time when a few publishers put out these add-ons for a few different games that some were licensed some were not. just to try and jump on the popularity of a game, not sure how well they did.
