I sang this O Canada in English and pure French several thousand times already with my students where I taught badic french in elementary and high school department at the Westmead International School and caregiver students at the Goldrn Gate Colleges, Institute for Professional Health Care in Batangas City while in San Pablo City. @@BucyKalman pretty sure that's meant to be George Brown who was a political rival to Macdonald but temporarily did cooperate with him during the early talks of Confederation... Cartier was more of a close political ally to Macdonald

I also disagree with doing that. However, it’s not that they’re ungrateful, it’s that today he would be viewed as a massive racist, and they felt he was not a good symbol of Canada. However, in his time, he was a Canadian icon, and I think his actions need to be put into context. Again, I disagree with what they did, but it’s not that they were ungrateful.
