This episode was one of my very favorites. Luke directed it too. I liked how Boss Hogg was so vulnerable, and then he found out just how many people were there to help him: "We want to help you Boss. We love Lulu." This first episode of S6 was a great reunion (with all the main characters on the same side) after S5. Interesting how Lulu was not nice at first. But as she appeared more frequently, she became nicer and more likable.

eternalhalloween1 it added another dimension to Boss Hogg’s character! He may have been a ruthless and corrupt mayor and businessman, but for all his faults, he loved and feared his wife Lulu So it was easy to love and hate Boss Hogg at the same time! 😂

I grew up in a small town near Liverpool UK. The Dukes was the MAJOR part of my Saturday night viewing. My older brother wanted to watch whatever was on the only other decent station out of our 3 TV stations. I'd always had to trade not watching either Scotbydoo or some other cartoon during the kids TV hour after school. I still believe I got the better deal not many will talk about those cartoons of my childhood BUT whistle Dixie or ANYTHING that can loosely be associated with The Dukes and even now after about 42 years it is guaranteed to spark off a good hours long discussion about this beautiful none discriminatory show. Being the over sized school girl that I was and like many big kids back in 70s schools teased for my size I got a real kick when this episode aired. Not only because it showed Lulu Hogg DRIVING but also JUMPING The General Lee. To my knowledge something that the beautiful SKINNY Daisy Duke NEVER did (although correct me if my memory doesn't serve me well). My brother to this day calls me Lulu and now there is the Internet sends me stuff with pictures of Miss Lulu mid air jumping THE GENERAL. This clip has brought back so many of my happiest childhood memories, too. Right down to what I was snacking on which was an old fashioned pack of SMITHS Crisps (what Americans call chips) that had a little blue paper bag with salt in to add to the pack if you wished and a can of Coke A Cola to my cat, Jessie, asleep on my back as I lay on my tummy watching and not being impressed when I jumped up shouting Bos' cry as Lulu safely landed and drove off seemingly FASTER than Bo and Luke ever did. I never knew what The Stars And Bars/Confederate Flag was all about. All my life I called it either The Dukes flag or THE GENERAL LEE flag. But once our favourite show started to rerun less and it being cut up to hide The Generals flag I hit the Internet to learn more as to why and the American History behind it. I cannot support one or other view as to why the Stars and Bars is courting so much hatred and controversy as I'm English not American but I totally agree with John Schneider when he has so often stated that The Dukes were NEVER racist sexist or discriminatory in any way shape or form. Hell having Lulu and NOT Daisy jumping The General Lee is proof of that, isn't it? I never thought anything would stop my watching the reruns until I watched 3 episodes all of which had The Generals roof shots cut out. Why? It's just a really cool car (or about 290 cars by John's math give or take), right? A car that did ground breaking stunts that paved the way for cars jumping and driving off without a scratch. Just a real cool car. It's still a TV show that upholds the true family values that I recall growing up and the way neighbours looked out for eachother. Something none of our shows have today. I may sound old but in most TV shows now it's unbelievably common for bar fights to involve guns and knives. Bar fights in the Boars Nest involved Luke and Bo using their fists and breaking furniture. As a foreigner I can't say much about why people like or loathe The Generals flag. It's a part of Americas history I know little about BUT for some bozos deciding it's OK to air that disgraceful movie with its drug smoking Uncle Jessie (a grotesque insult to the REAL Uncle Jessie and the memory of Denver Pyne) to name just one insult one Christmas at a time when youngsters could watch without warning yet refuse to air the REAL Dukes Of Hazzard is, in my opinion, repulsive. We all have memories of what a great show this STILL IS after 40+ years. That we share with our own youngsters without needing to change channels due to a shows content. I am hard pressed to pick anything created these days that will hold up and have the same following and fan base worldwide in 40+ years. Times change for good and/or bad but I think The Dukes, sadly, seemingly archaic values should be revisited and maybe just maybe the word would become a better less hate and fear filled place for us all to live in.
