I'm over a thousand miles to the east in Boston, Massachusetts, but am enjoying the heck out of this channel. I've long wanted to get out thattaway and to the Soo Locks as well for a visit. Perhaps later this fall. Quick Question: Are the townhouses on the harbor side of the channel privately owned dwellings or are they bed and breakfasts or some such?
@jonathanellsworth212 жыл бұрын
There’s a lot of large hotels behind these cams, as well as smaller inns and B&Bs on the south (camera facing) side. There’s also some private houses scattered in there. Most of Duluth’s tourist zone is behind the cams, or are often mounted on top of main attractions. The canal is just part of it!

Is my memory bad, or did I hear it wrong the first time? I was watching live when these three boats came in/ went out, and I distinctly remember the James R Barker giving a THREE LONG, two short salute. We even discussed that in chat. It's an attention call so other radio traffic will give way to the ship giving the broadcast. It's intended to cut off any radio chatter and give priority to a ship moving in or out, especially when they are that large.
