Very impressive! Your bow thruster is like the dig function on a crawler! 👍👍👍👍👍

Your boat looks great, Very nice build. I built that kit in the late 80's myself, still have it, still run it. still love it.

Very nice boat, beautifully made!

All the dust kicked up in the water at the start is so cool. Like the tug had been parked above some kind of disaster.

Those big 4” props really move some water.

Beautiful boat. Your build is great !!!! I bought the Krick Models Happy Hunter. I have installed the winches, Crane, bow thruster, power distribution module, relays, etc....... It is 42 inches long, abd weighs 35 pounds.

I almost bought the Happy Hunter before the Mister Darby but found someone selling the Darby so went with that one. Plus I went to see the full size Mister Darby docked at the port of Newark, NJ now named the Atlantic Salvor. I was able to get on the boat and take lots of pictures which helps with the build accuracy.

@Robert Schmidt RC Model Boats I wish I could do that. I also build Shrimp Boats, but they are totally Scratch built. I took aot of photos of the ones I have built. I wish I could put some photos of them in this comment.

Great job. I built mine 28 years ago. Still impressive on the water. I belong to the San Francisco Model Yacht Club. I use a group 24 car battery and 10 lbs of lead in the stern. I use the same setup of motors with two sticks.

Tom, Beautiful job!. I have had mine since 1982, and built it while I was in the US Air Force, I am just starting to rebuild her after all these years, she was never fully super detailed but very functional, I took her with me to the UK.. and ran her on the Oxford canal just north of Oxford England. I used to have her pull me up and down the canal in a one man blow up raft!. Give it a try!!. Dave..from Mid Michigan.....

Did you have to add ballast to it ? Mine floats up to high and is very tippy
@robertschmidtrcmodelboats64832 жыл бұрын
You need about 20 pounds of ballast and I have two 12volt 8amp batteries plus a small 12 for the bow thruster. Once you put the weight in it sits perfect and drives better in the water. Put the boat in the water then add the ballast and batteries.

Great build! What is the total weight of the boat? How do you get it into the water?
@robertschmidtrcmodelboats64833 жыл бұрын
Total weight is about 40 pounds, I put the hull in the water first then add the five pieces of lead ballast and three 12 volt lead acid batteries to the hull, one for each motor and one for the bow thruster, then the superstructure goes on last. I reverse the process to get the tug out of the water. It is to difficult to lift the hull complete in and out of the water.

I have a Mr. Darby that I have had for 25 years. I used to run it when I was a kid . I’m getting it up and running again mine runs off of a 6 V three cell Optima car battery . What are you using on yours?
@robertschmidtrcmodelboats64834 жыл бұрын
Tug is powered by two 12v 7 amp batteries from emergency lights and a mini 12v for the bow thruster. Each motor has its own speed control for independent control and the bow thruster has a mini speed control as well.
