She knows what she did, but she has no idea what's about to happen...
Despite being a lively and charming nine-year-old who brought happiness to those around her, Dericka Chavonne Lindsay faced constant criticism from her foster parents, James and Grace Smith. One night, Veronica Posey, a cousin of Grace, received a call from the Smiths about difficulties disciplining Dericka, who had allegedly threatened them with a knife. Posey drove to their home and restrained Dericka by sitting on her. Although Dericka desperately cried out that she couldn't breathe, Posey remained seated for over six minutes, leaving the girl unresponsive by the time she moved.
This is the interrogation of Veronica Posey.

When a 320lb woman sits on a 9 yr old begging for air and says "you're fine" I lose ALL care for what happens to that woman. Thats disgusting. The way she speaks so calmly about whooping her with different objects and 3 adults trying to restrain her for more beatings is crazy to me. The fact that she even thought to use a pipe with the ruler to make sure it doesnt break proves she has broken many rulers beating children. And STILL broke the ruler on her. All while telling this story like its normal everyday stuff. Jesus. What 9 yr old WOULDN'T try to get away from a situation like that and try to fight them off??? I know I absolutely would if that was my 9 yr old self! I can't understand how people dont see that beating your children like that will NEVER solve the problem. It will only make them hate you and act up even more. RIP to that poor child who sadly never got the chance to receive better care/guidance or to have a better life 🕊

Yeah, at that point it's simple self preservation, fight or flight taking over. She talks about it like she seriously thinks a child is choosing to be disrespectful by fleeing from being viciously beaten or fighting when being restrained during a beating. I've been in that position and you can consciously tell yourself to stay still, but your body will ignore you and instinctually resist on autopilot. It's the same system that causes us to uncontrollably flinch. You can try to purposefully put your hand into a fire, with the full intention & conscious desire to keep it there, and yet you will still experience your hand being pulled back due to an automatic response from your body which is uncontrollable! Even as a full grown sober adult. Totally delusional reaction to any natural resistance to pain, especially a child. 😡

After auntie gets there she’s calm and good. But they still proceed to hold her down and i mean it was just “10 licks w the BELT” on top of her pipe & ruler. Wtf these old folks think beating a child is going to correct them. I was soanked as a child an all it did was instill FEAR in me to not get caught doing nothing that would make me get spanked. It does not discipline kids or make them act right. They may act right but it’s bc they fear what you will do to them. There is a difference in discipline and abuse, 10 licks w the belt is TOO much. Did auntie ever question WHY she was so good for everyone else but her adoptive parents? Kids don’t just act out for nothing. Something was going on. She probably knew they were disabled and could easily run from the abuse. They parents were old disabled and probably short fused an would get mad at anything. My pawpaw would blow up if we ran through the house as young kids. Old folks get mad over little things. If you want kids to respect you you should show respect to receive it. I have a 10yo son. He has learning disabilities and cognitive delays. I have to get onto him but rarely have to go further in discipline, typically i just have to threaten to take things away and he stops bugging over whatever it is. I talk to him and communicate which the older generation didn’t really do, they were very disconnected to there kids imo they had the “spare the rod spoil the child” motto. Which is you physically discipline the child to keep them from getting there way becoming spoiled. Such an outdated way

As someone who’s had a childhood with adults like this it’s 1000% a weird power trip that some people get in places of authority and I believe for them it’s somewhat of a addiction to disciplining those who can’t fight back

Poor baby? A runaway child, that acts like she’s grown and threatened family with a knife? The same child that has been turned over to the state by multiple family members? Let’s not act like every child is an innocent, caring, loving blessing incapable of violence. There are many videos featuring killer kids. They were obviously and very clearly trying to do right by here but grew desperate and didn’t have the help or support. It’s clear that all these family members are of age and or disabled, and I’ll equipped to deal with a problem child. The state and CPS failed this child by placing them in this household instead of placing them somewhere where they could provide help for their clear their behavior and mental health problems.

The horses want to be with the people, want to be included. And the people respect the horses and pay attention to when they need a break or aren’t up to training/being ridden.

PEOPLE! PLEASE READ THIS! IT IS SO VERY IMPORTANT TO BRING AWARENESS TO THIS ISSUE. First, please bear with me as i try to explain. My English is not the best. Please do not listen to, or continue to spread this ridiculous comment of "if you can talk, you can breathe." This is not true, and even if it was. It is far too risky to a persons life, to believe. If someone says they cant breathe. You believe them, and help until proven otherwise, by an actual doctor. There are MANY reasons for a person to feel like they are not getting oxygen, while they are still able to speak. All can be life threatening and should not be left to chance or your hunch. This whole "if you can talk, you can breathe" crap came from first aid training for CHOKING. Meaning, whatever is blocking their airway is still allowing air to pass thru. This is not something to use when it comes to any kind of compression of a persons diaphragm. Even if they can speak, or you feel/see them breathing. It doesnt mean they are ok. If they cannot fully expand their diaphragm, they are unable to get the full amount of oxygen yhey need, while also creating carbon to build up in their system. Ultimately killing them if you do not release wnd get rhem help. When i was in school for nursing, my instructor was very adamant about getting this dangerous belief erased from all our heads. Please everyone, make it something you bring up with friends and family. Lets get this dangerous phrase and mindset erased before many more suffer unnecessarily.

People without medical training fail to understand that a partially obstructed airway is life-threatening. They see it as all or nothing. That is a dangerous way of thinking. I worked in health care for 18 years. I trained in the Navy as a Corpsman. Then I worked in civilian health care. I have experience in different fields as one type of tech or another. The number one thing to be cognizant about is airway. Breathing is part of airway. If it is restricted, someone will stop breathing. I hope someone sees this thread and thinks about it.

I enjoyed your post but, yes there is a but to the origin of the "I can't breathe" statement of misuse.....the saying came about w/GF & is so utterly misused by criminals that want to avoid going to jail. That's the origin of the saying ICB and since GF it is the #1 complaint criminals use immediately. 99.9% of criminals being arrested have absolutely nothing wrong & are told "if you're screaming, you're breathing" bc it's true! LEO's always have a medical evaluation done for these complaints & 99.9% of the time the criminal is alright.

@@RebekkaRN1962exactly! The whole country saw the GF debacle and criminals don’t care that crying wolf is damaging for others. They don’t care, they will lie just to get away with inappropriate behavior. Every single criminal that resists arrest and is in a scuffle with police claims they can’t breathe. 99.9% of them are lying in order to feel power and control in the situation. Even with GF, they pulled his arrests prior to his death and he always claimed that he couldn’t breathe when he resisted arrest. It’s a very common tactic for repeat offenders who resist arrest. Every resisting arrest bodycam has the perp claiming to be unable to breathe, even when the police are nowhere near them. It’s a control tactic and until we stop allowing criminals to use it to avoid arrest procedure, it will continue to be misused.

In the late 80's and early 90's, i befriended a neighbor who reminds me exactly of this woman, also named Veronica, aka Ronnie. They even look very much alike. I was a new single mother, fresh out of foster care, and she was my first experience of any kind of parental guidance. I trusted her advice, I believed it to be good because she was otherwise a very motherly mother. Nurturing, helpful, well intentioned. Through her, i grew into her family and friends, and most of the women were similar. They disciplined their children the same way. The thing is, it was a very 'normal' part of their child rearing and none of them saw it as abusive. They knew they could get in trouble for it, but made it seem like the law had it wrong. They all spoke the same way ......be respectful to your elders, do your chores, don't argue back, don't act a fool in public, or at home, mind your manners, say yes ma'am no ma'am and yes sir no sir, don't act too grown, you'll get your ass whooped as long as I'm alive if you act up, straighten your face, accept your punishment, a few licks with a belt/paddle/jump rope/stick/shoe/extension cord/hanger won't kill you', and so on. I emulated some things as I raised my own children. I spanked (whooped) with a belt, I demanded obedience, I cooked great meals and hugged them a lot, I expected perfection in certain ways (grades, behavior, moods, etc), I punished, and now......as adults, we are very broken and have strained dynamics, trauma, regrets, blame, estrangement.....it caused a lot of issues to live that way. I am 56 now, and i can say that I am so astounded that humans use hitting as a punishment and lesson. It's bizarre. I now know there are so many other ways to teach that aren't cruel forms of punishment. Hitting, preaching, demanding, being so authorative is not at all helpful. Some will say 'well i got my ass whooped and I turned out just fine!', but thats generally not the case. I wish I had known better than I did then, I would not have been so harsh.

They weren't official foster parents, they were blood relations given custody. Unfortunately, biological relations too often don't get as much scruitiny as needed for child safety. CPS dropped the ball and given lack of resources it's going to keep happening. I once called CPS on my neighbors for leaving their 5yo alone in charge of the 18 mo baby all day, on a regular basis. He would get verbally and physically abused for not caring for the baby properly. The case worker tells me, "We're not going to remove them because we have nowhere safe to place them. It's better they stay than get abused by strangers." Keeping them with family is preferred, as if blood keeps harm at bay. It was over 30 years ago and still haunts me.
