In week 1 of the 2022 NFL season, in a game between the New York Giants and the Tennessee Titans, the Titans had the ball up by 7 points facing 3rd and 1. Instead of giving the ball to Derrick Henry, the Titans, for some inexplicable reason, decide to call a tight end sweep to tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo, which failed miserably and cost the Titans the game. This is a breakdown of that dumb decision

The karaoke-on-a-cruise-ship analogy actually has significant meaning for me. I had done karaoke a handful of times over the years, until I took a Norwegian cruise from Miami about 10 years ago. They had it on the ship, not for prizes, but I’m a good enough singer that I was able to impress at least a few people. One person actually came up to me in the breakfast line the next morning to compliment me, which I found very touching. After that I made it a point to do karaoke on a regular basis - which I did almost every week (sometimes 2 or even 3 times per week) until COVID lockdown. Haven’t fully got back into doing it regularly since then.

I think that coaches try to overcomplicate things sometimes. Football is a simple game. if you win the line of scrimmage, you win the game. Hand it to your big RB and let him pound the defense all day. Like Appalachian State did on Saturday to Texas A&M, for instance.

I'm sure that having Henry attempt a rush out of the ace formation would've been a far more effective option than a TE fly sweep. I know giving the ball to Henry there was predictable, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the Giants' D would've stopped him.

If you want to blame the AFC South for not winning, here's why. Houston: As bad as Lovie Smith's decision to play for the tie by punting on 4th and 3 was, they tried to get the best result possible and that was better than a loss. But they blew a 20-3 lead, which for any team (rebuilding or contending) is bad. The Texans got too complacent at the end of regulation and they're blamed for being in that situation. Indianapolis: The Colts were not the better team all throughout the game until the fourth quarter when they tied the game. Then, they had a chance to win it in overtime only to have their now ex-kicker miss a field goal. The team that was supposed to be the AFC South favorites getting outplayed to a team that isn't even a contender yet? That's embarrassing. Jacksonville: No offense as it's only week one, but Jacksonville failed to score more touchdowns in the red zone and they lost to a Washington team with Carson Wentz as the quarterback. Tennessee: Terrible playcall and simply for the reasons you say. My prediction at the beginning of the season was the AFC South might be the only division where the winner is under .500 (like the 2010 Seahawks)

I was watching the game because I am a fan of the Giants. I saw this play and was confused. The announcers were confused. They said something to the affect that why didn't Henry touch the ball. It was a very strange and dumb decision.

Again the Giants opponents made the Dumb Decision (TM), and again the Giants opponents called a Tight End end around with one yard to go, this time on a 4th and Goal from the 1-yard line. The Tight End run was not the Dumb Decision (TM) though.

Sometimes Vrabel looks brilliant and sometimes he looks completely lost. I do think this is one of those plays that if it worked we'd all be calling him a genius but since it didn't he's an idiot. Its the whole hindsight thing. Kind of like going for 2 for the win instead of tying the game with an extra point.

I know it's Dumb Decisions one of your best series and ths is a great example but I am going in a different direction. First I want to say Vrabel has done at worst a excellent job as the Head guy. I'd like to thak the Titans stupid ass play calling and giving my giants life to win the game. the 3rd and 1 Wildcat was dumb imo just but Henry did bobble it... maybe snap could of been better but i'm not sure. but rarely rarely Henry gets stuffed on back to back 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1. wether it's before midfield or past midfield. but the last one the TE reverse or whatever it was just flat out stupid. You got one of the best Running backs who usually can convert and you get too cute. therefore you deserve to lose. Ty titans :D

Alarmingly as NFC east non Giants fan, they might be better than they have been since Eli aged out & they let Coughlin go. Daboll is it worst competent as a coordinator & Martindale is a good defensive coach. As evidenced by the G-men not committing over pursuit. See that horrible tight end sweep, which only works against a poorly coached squad.
