My friend manages the local movie theater. Twelve screens. Huge screens and full leather seating. His staff is told to throw folks out if they sing or speak out. I was in a showing at his theater years ago and someone was laughing in the wrong places like DeNiro in Cape Fear. Loud and obnoxiously. Slapping the seat next to him. Ended up yelling out loud. Immediately tossed out of the show. Dwayne is an idiot. Too many chair shots to the head are catching up to him.

Yeah, I'm not a Dwayne Johnson hater, but this is a genuinely brainless take. You want to sing, go to the sing-a-long showings or wait until the movie comes out on digital, streaming and physical media, and get your friends and family together for a showing at your house, where you can sing as much as you want without disturbing other people.

Singing out loud with a crowd is literally what a concert is. In a concert, you sing along to songs, you cheer, make noise. In a movie theater, you sit down, shut up and watch and listen. If there’s something funny, you laugh along with the crowd. If it’s an action movie and the whole theater is feeling it, you cheer at the occasional awesome moments (like Captain America lifting up Thor’s hammer in Endgame). I don’t understand what’s so hard to understand about that. Other people paid for a ticket in a movie theater too so everyone should be respectful and mindful of that. You can do literally anything you want when the movie hits streaming.
@Meh-ru3exАй бұрын
To be honest, from my experience, My First watching of Endgame wasn’t so great because of forced cheers on like almost every single moments. I would abide by typical theatre etiquette, just keeping it quiet and watch. Hence that’s why we turn off our phones right? Even in No way home, when Aunt May said “with great powe…” line one guy cheered out loud then shut up quickly because no one did. It was such an emotional scene, nothing to cheer for. And that alone made me really mad. I think not talking is the default. Variable could happen when something is funny everyone would laugh, but it’s not distracting because you are along with it.
@tuckerhall5617Ай бұрын
@ Yeah I get where you’re coming from! I don’t talk in a movie theater but I did cheer along with the crowd when Cap lifted Thor’s hammer in Endgame and everyone including me clapped when Andrew and Tobey first appeared in No Way Home. My local theater is mostly pretty chill and respectful. Every Marvel movie I’ve gone to usually saves the reactions until after the movie is over. I once stayed an extra 15-20 minutes after the movie talking to a stranger about the post credits scene of The Marvels. I just find that more respectful. However, I have to wait for a week until I can watch an animated movie. I saw Toy Story 4 on opening night and there were like 5 little kids in front of me were talking the whole time and the parents wouldn’t do anything about it. I had to watch it again the next week to enjoy it and that really irritated me. I think movie staff should be more strict with a no talking/no phones policy.

There's a reason why most musical movies make a dedicated sing-along version. People have paid their hard-earned money to watch a film, not listen to others sing around them if it's not intended.
@rawyldАй бұрын
Sing in theatres I like to whisper the lyrics while watching the film. The only time when it is acceptable is if it's a sing-a-long movie with the lyrics on the screen. But I have Autism and I got in trouble during Avengers Endgame because I have big fan reaction, now whenever I go to the movies I warn people before the movie starts "look if I have big reactions and go nuts I apologise for in advance." Surprisingly people are ok with that. Example in Deadpool 3 when Chris Evans said "FLAME ON!" I went nuts but the audience went nuts with this scene. I only use my phone only for the weather (I have a thunderstorm fear.) But I keep the lights down, but I hate it when they photos of their food.

To me this is just disrespectful to the moviegoers who paid to go watch their movie and not to hear someone needing their opinion on something on a phone. It’s so rude to the point were I want to tell people to leave.

I think singing along is fine if they sing along with the movie at the proper spots. The distractions that are the problem involve talking, kicking seats, cell phone usage, etc. That is what is distracting and not people singing along with a movie.
