What does locking out the elbow have to do with the chest? The chest controls the shoulder joint, it will not be impacted by the elbow locking out

When you lockout the elbow the upper arm is completely vertical and gravity isn't pulling "sideways" so the chest isn't loaded as much

@@fissilepear7805 the chest's function is arm adduction, it brings your elbows together, if there's no force pulling your elbows apart, then there's no tension in your chest, simple as that, you can literally feel your chest going slack when you lock out. Why do you think pec dec fly machines exist? They're designed to have constant resistance throughout the entire range of motion.

If you do them over years and getting stronger, it doesn't matter if you lock out your elbows or not.

I think it matters because locking out your elbows in the long run especially if you're lifting heavier dumbbells might risk your joints. Also, the locking out part is like a cheat range of motion. It's like pushing your arms in a quick upward motion to get that extra rom instead of doing it slowly with eccentric.

"Not locking out" doesnt have to be visible to onlooker. You just take it to almost looking out.

The main mistake is to make dumbells closer at the thop. There is no tension. U have to press straight.

I actually prefer locking out my elbows it gives me a chance to reset my form by pulling my shoulders back i noticed further into each set I end up slowly rolling my shoulders forward each rep so this gives me a chance to retract my scapula again after each rep.

No. As long as you have acceptable range of motion, do whatever allows you to get the most reps with the most amount of weight.

So I heard from other youtubers your supposed to push your elbows together at the top of the workout... iv been doing it this way for a while I'll try it without locking them at the top and see if my elbow pain goes away

Any tips on how I can retract the shoulder blades? I can do it with the barbell press since I can lie down before grabbing the bar, but with dumbbells I find it difficult

I would say drive your feet into the ground right as you lay flat. Like hard and very intentionally.

Dumbells allow for a full ROM and allows for each pec to work individually. It also allows your body move natural with the bar it allows youre to lift heavieer which is a good thing. incorporate both
