Don't hope, do instead. It starts now. Build great bonds with them now
@esmee63084 жыл бұрын
Take some advice from a girl (un)fortunate enough to experience two completely opposite styles of parenting. It's 99% in YOUR hands, let your boys explore, set the stage and make their choices, but enable them and find hobbies to share. Things THEY wish to explore (and I know children change their minds a lot, but your goal is a bond, not a shared hobby, that's the side-effect.) and enable them to do so and share their joy, even if it's not your #1 choice of activity. My best bonds as a child were with my dad until he passed away, but even now his best friend was a close second because he shared my computer interest even if his main interests are wine, piano etc. He'd set time aside to help me explore the world of technology. My aunt never draws but is extremely good at it, noticed my interest, set aside time to do it with me, same with walking even if she prefers cycling and more explosive sports (tennis) that my health doesn't allow. My brother had similar close bonds through people enabling what he was interested in. Meanwhile my mother.. forced me into horseback riding, which my health doesn't allow (painful AF) and other horse-related hobbies. Result? I just did the stables with music on because I couldn't care less about horses. We still haven't bonded... 28y later, even though we share tons of interests, she just never noticed. (I didn't until I was 28 but... I didn't care.) The buff family is freaking heart-warming though, every generation, good aspiration! And you're gonna do great with your family as well, I wish I had a dad like you. Well I had, but we didn't get the chance to enjoy it much, I cherish every year we got.

@@AndyL940 Yeah sorry for oversharing it's just I'm SO appreciative of, what I'd consider good parents (rolemodels I suppose since my rolemodels have been more my parents than my mother and stepfather managed to be, I'm not upset, they just shouldn't ever have had children and admitted they did it for their partners who both passed away.) Buff Duke is BY FAR my fav buff dude due to it, everything he does and how he does it brings this huge smile to my face. Few other things that bring me more happiness than it maybe should: The kick-ass young lady and her dad working out at the gym. I got no idea how old she is but quite young, her form is amazing though. I cannot tell who inspired who but it just warms my heart. The mother who can only work out when she's watching her daughter so her daughter is in the gym doing whatever (respecting corona rules other than touching better than most adults :'') ) And the dad who brings his son to classes and the teacher often buddying up with the son so the dad can still push himself. It's just... beautiful. My mother 'provided' (with the money my dad left us.) And that's it, rest was spend behind her laptop or in front of the tv with the only interaction being what drink she wanted me to get her or social media gossip whilst I tried to focus on homework. Good parents are just... yeah. They warm my heart.

I don't expect to make back the generations leading up to the 5 mil, but I want to leave them a good start. I hope with this, once the day comes, my brother can focus on the stronger, smarter and happier, though I'll do my part where I can. You need to make the "inside" more comfortable seeing that your hand / arm will be scrapping your skin with splintering plywood and rusty bar. Might i suggest add a thick layer of paint on the handle (or polish it) and cover the barble's inner walls with sheets of rubber. Also just to be safe, make the steel bar longer so the foundation will be deeper & stronger since i noticed it's only half an inch deep into the very heavy concrete. It's possible that the heaviness will make the steel handle chip away from the concrete in the long run.

The only weights I could find this entire pandemic were these old school adjustable plates where you screw the collars on and off, not the greatest for drop sets or super sets. Please tell Duke my arms and I want to thank him... I mean you guys too, but I think we can all agree, Duke is really the star here.

Not sure if you did this or not, but one thing I would have done is vibrate the forms, after the concrete was poured. It keeps the concrete from getting big air pockets and makes it stronger. Just tapping the outside of the forms with a rubber mallet would work.

In the UK People are selling second hand weights for more than they cost new!! My advice is try this Get some old tyes( start with small ones) and 1 or 2 inch metal or plastic tubing to fit your bar. Then just fill with a proper concrete mix ( 1 part cement 1 part sand 2 parts course agregate) and put a section of tubing bang center. They need 4 days to fully cure so dont rush it even if they look solid. You could add wire mesh or rebar for longevity but i didnt bother. You will have some pretty durable and heavy weight. A pair of 19 inch 255mm wide tyres made me 2 plates that weighed 47kg each!!!! 😂😂 Better off with 13inch for around 20kg plates

I used 2 inch PVC for handles Put a screw on the end of each so they don't turn in the blocks, filled them with concrete as well. Don't tape up the handles if you really want to test / increase your grip strength. I also Masking tape the top of the baby box to keep concrete from spilling in when I pour.

I've progressed to needing bigger dumbells but I think these blocks aren't quite what I'm looking for. I'll probably make some version of a more standard dumbell with the pvc handle. Concrete is kinda bulky for making hand weights. I'll probably add rebar to help with that. Need 55-65lbs at the moment so hopefully they don't wind up too huge. Lol.
