The whole conversation with Raiden where he says: "I'll decide for myself what to believe in" and they clap back with: "But is that even your own idea?" "Or something Snake told you?" Is the absolute pinnacle of an ideological roast Also I like Rose and I think her writing was extremely on the nose in the beginning completely on purpose. Exactly, a bunch of dummies decided to hat3 the shit out of her which, to be honest I started to become a little distraut at her in mgs4 when she did..what she did. it isn't though cause one is preaching individuality and choosing for yourself were as the other wants to control literally everything, the whole thing is about the need for individuality and the danger of collectivism and even if a government does take everything over you have to use what individuality in your daily life to keep going snakes speech at the end to raiden describes it perfectly the only part he doesn't spell out is the danger with a big collectivist government but i feel like all of MGS spells that out its very clear they are frustrated with collectivism which makes sense considering how collectivist japan is, i feel this is a inspiration to the people of there country to be happy and chose for themselves and a warning to the rest of the world of the dangers of collectivism sorry for putting so much i love the series and its message and if i miss understood your point and put all this for nothing sorry lmao

One thing I'd like to add about Solidus and his child soldiers. The First Liberian Civil War happened in 1989, and Solidus was born in 1974, 2 years after Solid and Liquid, so when all of the child soldier shit happened he was only 15. Not only that but it's highly likely it was all done by the patriots, so that means they made a teenager create a child soldier unit, holy fuck. It also kinda humanises him more, since it shows how much of his life was controlled and what travesties he was forced to.
@patbaitman33578 ай бұрын
That's a point driven home further in MGSV, where smol Liquid had his own platoon at a younger age, got roped into Diamond Dogs, and ultimately conned the bigger operation for its resources to later one-up them, once Outer Heaven fell apart. He even had his own groomed super soldier (Psycho Mantis) driven insane by mental torture, killed by their loose ends (Solid Snake) and was ultimately being sheparded by the organization he swore to destroy (Ocelot's connection to the Patriots). Birds of a feather flock together, but also have a habit of flying into the sun.

Solidus wasn't going to nuke Manhattan itself, he was going to detonate it in the upper atmosphere, the resulting explosion causing a massive EMP that'll affect all of Manhattan. With it offline, it would be free from the Patriot's control. That's why they wanted Raiden to kill him. Solidus's plans succeeding would be bad news for them. He was a perfect clone of Big Boss and his plan was similar to his. A liberated Manhattan would essentially be Solidus's Outer Heaven.

36:28 The "Godzilla vs King Kong" bit cuts a bit deeper than that. Godzilla is also mentioned in MGS3, and has a lot of parallels to Naked Snake: both of them were mutated from atomic testing to not only be sterile, but to go on the assault once its territory was threatened, and could only be stopped once a bigger threat threatens Godzilla. Meanwhile, King Kong was found on an indigenous island as a natural treasure contained within a wilderness to experience freedom, but was later caged when modern civilizations realized he was worth his weight in gold. He was later ensnared by raiders and was tormented, but endured it for Ann whom he had feelings for. He only escapes when the coast is clear, but in New York, there's only so many places to hide. And yes, there is a Son of Kong spinoff too. He was taken down by *biplanes,* Jacks if you will. In addition, the original "Godzilla vs. Kong" was a compromise after Toho couldn't get their intended monster. The previous title? "Godzilla vs. Frankenstein". This reference is so big it spilled over to the sequels.

Near the end when Snake was talking to Raiden about how his experiences are his alone, reminded me about something i learned in my Philosophy of Mind class i took last year. In that no one has access to your mind, and what reality is is ultimately up to you, given you cannot know what someone else is thinking and feeling, and they cant in return. I first found it terrifying, but found comfort in knowing that my experience is my own, and given that, it made me appreciate reality and existence more. I've only played and beaten this game twice, first when I was in high school (2009 or 2010), and the second time was last week. I used to hate it, falling into the general reaction back then, never wanting to touch it again (and the great "course correction" that MGS3 was helped cement that too). But with my second playthrough, I just fell in love with it. The gameplay just clicked with me this time, the story made a lot more sense (I actually loved the arc between Rose and Jack, simply beautiful how it ends too), I wasn't getting frustrated anymore with the boss fights and some of the sections. I actually even ENJOYED the sword gameplay (and it made me wanna replay MGR after 10 years holy shit). The final conversation between Jack and Rose after everything was done made me choke up, the credits song is still the best of the entire series, and Snake's monologue cemented the entire game as one of my favorites in the franchise (it shares the spot with MGS3, I just can't unlove that game). I do look forward to come back to it again this time unlike after my first playthrough, just to try to collect the dog tags, since I do wanna get at least the infinite ammo and optical camo just to mess with the game some more, but I never had this feeling before. So yeah, amazing game indeed.

I came here looking for another MGS2 funny video, but left with an existential crisis. I now remember why I don't watch MGS2 commentaries often. This is gut-wrenching. I played this as a kid. I could barely speak Portuguese, let alone English. I had no idea what the story was, but the game was the single most impressive thing I had ever witnessed. It wasn't until years later, when I was starting to get into politics and all the anti-political discussions, second guessing all the definitions of liberty and free will, that I dove knee deep into MGS2. Until then I knew how good the game was. I knew how good the story was. I understood the parallels with MGS1 and modern society, but it wasn't nothing close to the real thing. Heck, I think I still don't fully grasp MGS2. One thing's for certain: this game has not only changed my life, but my perception of everything. After watching this video, I just had a 1h talk with my mom about it. Trying to de-videogame-izing it. One thing I got clear from the conversation: this game will never be fully dissected, because all it is doing is deconstructing human nature. Reality is no more than convenient truths, we pass one another, and choose to believe. Genes don't define us, but they're the predominant source of human information. Self doesn't exist. I'm a sum of it all. I'm a sum of me, you, and all the Raidens around me. We're mere pawns trying to demystify nature. We mapped the human gene. We split atoms in half. We created divine stories to justify our existence... After all, we're just fabricating truths strong enough to keep us going, in search of one (any) fact. I will forever be thrilled by this game. I will forever keep looking into commentaries of this game. And I will, more likely than not, comeback to this video in a short time (especially the Arsenal chapter), to give this another go, and try to link it to today's world. This video was a true work of a patriot.

When I first played this I had an absolute blast but Emma section really got to me. To not get too personal I’ll just say that I had a half sister who experienced something absolutely terrible thanks to my own biological father. So when I saw Emma’s last moments it really fucked with me and made me cry for several minutes. This game became really personal to me and quickly became one of my favorite games of all time

Just completed sons of liberty today. I agree, hands down the best game Ive ever played. Just when I thought nothing could top my previous favorite game, this one rolls along.

Both the MGS2 and 3 soundtracks are two of the best in all of gaming hands down. They’re both so iconic that they’re instantly recognizable. I’m blown away at how they can so perfectly match the feel of both of both games thematically while still being functionally extremely similar.

Back in 2022 I was first getting into Metal Gear Solid, around that time thought I went through a really rough breakup. I felt exactly like how Raiden felt when his world started to fall apart. I didn't know how to feel or what to do, for a few weeks of my life I felt aimless. That was until I finished Metal Gear Solid 2. Solid Snake told me exactly what I needed to hear in that moment. The emotional connection I have, the insane attention to detail that should be studied in game design classes for decades to come, the profound narrative and the metanarrative that makes the plot only work as a video game is why I think Metal Gear Solid 2 is the best game ever made.

Dude I love how everytime you make one of these videos you reference y'know the media you are reviewing itself, memes centered around it, memes ajancent to that, and, oh yeah, Modern games like Cod or even, Alone in the Dark (which I don’t mind, I just, I just think they are better horrorgames out their, like MGS2, or whatever, cusse it'san alright game, the enemies, gameplay and story, they just, pale in the face compsred to games like Alan Wake 2! But still), (including games you said that you were gonns play like Bioshock, but you somehow ended up playing them anyway), but idk, that's just something I kind of like about your content, taking random things that might not corilate to something, and somehow making that work, sorta like what I try to do but am not good at cause sometimes I talk about certain things for to long and my confidence about what I was talking about might wane for the stupidest of reasons, weather that being me getting rage bated, or being embarrassed at writing way to long comments in a short comments therad, but despite that, and despite the fact that half/all the things you review I either never see beforehand, or have but just didn’t have the time or patience to continue with it (like weather that'd be most of your bad/good movies that you reviewed, or bad/good games), despite that I still like your content because no matter how long or short the video is, I will (sometime) always like your wacky sense of editing and humor, so thsnks for making good content (at least in my opinion that is), I hope you continue to do so, you also deserve a million or so subscribers, and I also hope that you have a good day!

the only thing about the tutorial repeating in the big shell start is because you can select in which moment you want to start the game, either the tanker part or the big shell, both can be "the starting point"

If I were to make a metal gear solid 2 spiritual successor, I'd have it to where you got some headset that helps you auto aim and you could take it off at any point. At some points you may find that the soldier you shot, maybe killed, was just an officer doing his duty, or even a normal citizen. The AI obviously controlling the headset if you found out, saying they are bettering humanity by removing the problematic factors of civilization. Further, if you refuse to go along with the AI's plan, they mark you as a enemy of the states. I dunno. Plot point I thought of on the spot.

Dumbsville, this has to be one of your best video essays ever. Because it doesn't come to questioning what is right and wrong how the general population sees it. It also questions self-worth as humanity.

I just finished mgs2 for the first time tonight and had this video in my watch later playlist for when I finished it. I’ve never been so traumatized and horrified by a piece of media as this. I truly realize that we are already in this dystopian future, living our lives but not truly controlling our lives. The only thing keeping me positive about humanity is that I have understood these ideals and have for years decided that I am not conforming to a specific party or taking a side in a political issue bc if I do, I’ll be fed the information that I want to hear and I refuse to be manipulated if I can help it. Sadly I realize that no matter what I do, for as long as I am on the Internet or a part of this technological age, I will always be manipulated in some way.
