I have been clipping cords, yokes and deGaussing wire from old TVs, lighter fare, ended up with $168 worth of “smalls” that still weighed almost 300 pounds total, 1/3 of that from aluminum breakage. I've been hungry enough to eat food I found in a dumpster. It was from a store and I had to cook it so I didn't get sick and I probably wouldn't have eaten that night had I not found it. Even in America people have to choose between paying the bills and eating sometimes. I wasn't making the best life decisions at the time I totally got myself into the situation and was fortunate enough to never really go without the essentials, it sure makes me appreciate things more now that I'm living better. It makes me worry for all the folks on the street that aren't as fortunate as I was or able to hustle up a meal or rent money however I had to do it without stealing or borrowing and begging. I wish I could have made a sign and stood on a busy street corner I just always figured I made better money scrapping and scavenging. If you have the right contacts and know the spots you can make a living at it if you're willing to hustle a bit. It helps if you enjoy it, it's not really work then.

You skipped on the cabinet and bbq…. is that because the value is to low or because of the effort it would take to move? As a scrapper I would assume you would take every thing?
@thubprint3 жыл бұрын
The value was definitely there if I just took it straight to the scrapyard! The only reason I didn’t take it was I would have needed to reorganize the already half-full load and I was rushing to be on time for something, and I didn’t want to have to unload it at the house and load it back up after removing all the nonferrous for processing. So normally that would have been a perfectly good find but it was just a bad time for it
@johnmackenzie19163 жыл бұрын
Hey...something to consider...don't know if it is the normal practice on the West Coast but in my part of the country, if you find a bin with only scrap in it, it's because a scrap yard...or a one person outfit, like you is paying the business for the scrap.Keep up the good work...definitely one of my top 3 channels

@@thubprint I'm a treasure picker too. I also grab plenty of canned and boxed food/foodstuffs. There's homeless folks at and around a major intersection several feet from my apartment. So I gather all I can and carry it home and cook it up and take it to them. Sometimes I don't have to walk it to them even. They're just outside waiting cause I told em I scored some grub. And we occasionally eat together. Yes, I've fallen victim to many of the downsides of doing this. From not making any money (which has become of great importance since the Great CONvideoed 19 Reset sank into Sacramento back in late March- Early April of 2020. I lost my jobs even though I was self employed. My customers were and still are (those who lived through their injections anyway) terribly scared. Even though I started giving them the heads up back in mid 2014 (to them and the homeless).. Some have told me thanks because it helped them in some way. Others want with the normal name calling or just doubting my sanity. But nearly ALL OF THEM LISTEN NOW. The irony is that the minute this hold on the evictions is lifted. I'm going to be booted. I owe 7 grand in rent and nearly $400 in utilities. I'll admit it, I'm scared. I almost didn't make it out when I was homeless in the 90's through mid 2000's. Still no matter how hard I try to help myself and save my home I keep focusing on helping these folks outside my window. Praying hasn't helped much but with the crying about it. I'm at a loss. I need to help myself but cant seem to. I really hate this mental block or whatever it is. Jeez. Sorry bro for all the over-sharing here.
