If it is a Honeydew Melon it will be just fine when it is time to harvest it. Food waste coming out of the dumpster will not harm the plant unless someone puts an herbicide in the dumpster and it kills the plant. People put food scraps on their compost piles and then put the compost on their gardens.

Remember when you find appliance parts, like the blades to the food processor, they can often be parted out on eBay for good money. That’s especially true with some vacuum cleaner parts-especially older models. Just a tip. !

We eat veggies & fruit that has been sprayed in the fields with pesticides. That also seeps in the earth & obviously enters the plants. That can't be washed off. That mellon is perfectly fine to eat.

Great video again, you two. I have something you guys can think about....does any person buying produce really know where it comes from? You are that much further ahead of those people that buy their produce....you can pick it from inside OR outside the dumpster and its better eating if it hasn't been sprayed with chemicals. You also have a beautiful large yard that maybe half could be used to plant fruits and veggies while the other half is used for recreation. I lived in Germany as a child, and my grandparents had a lot of fruit trees (5 types of cherries, a plum, apple, pear) and too many types of veggies to list them all. But we ate good and healthy! It was fun to pick items that were grown right on your own property. We had a basement, and lots of things were canned for the winter months. We shared the yields of the garden with our neighbors, and they would give us meat and cheese. The object was to show love to as many as possible who had also fled to West Germany after WWII. NOTHING in life beats giving.

The honeydew and any others that grow are perfectly fine to eat. The garbage acted like compost, which we gardeners put in all our beds. You have a perfectly healthy melon patch there. If they're still there when you get back, feel free to pick them and enjoy!

When you eat Honeydew melons,, you begin by cutting them in half & scraping out the seeds.. So if the seeds fall out of a bag that didn't make it into the dumpster, You get wild melons.. Honeydew is my Fave!! ~ Love the "Clicky" keyboard.

Alex, you're being too squeamish. That melon would be perfectly fine to eat. But if you really can't bring yourself to eat it, take it when it's ripe and take the seeds out. Plant them in your garden next spring. I like the designation of "dumpster melon" but it's what we call a volunteer plant. Every year my cherry tomato plants drop a few tomatoes on the ground and now my tomato patch is totally a volunteer patch.
