Dumpster Diving - Perfect Score at the Bowling Alley

Incredible finds today, what a score!!! Just happened to check one particularly attractive dumpster and couldn't believe what we found. With the permission of some new friends we had one heck of a week jumping in alongside a pretty big job, and happy to do it!

I almost always wear steel toe when I'm scrapping, there were a couple of times I didn't and I dropped something on my foot or something shifted and part of my foot was bruised on the top. Steel toe can save you!

@thubprint I resonate with your outlook on life, and I don't know the proper word, so I'll say earnestness. And the side dives you make. The catalytic converter video, for example. Mike let's the pictures set up his commentary. You share at least one thing in common, and that is, you both have hearts of gold. I'm better than when you found me. Or something like that

WOW!!! WHAT. A. HAUL!!!! What you SHOULD DO is TRANSFER as much of it as you can to YOUR YARD! That way no one can swoop in overnight and empty the dumpster, or empty it while you're at the yard. But then again, those guys at the bowling alley probably won't let someone do that, especially if they're making money by letting you haul it. There seems to be a LOT left in the bowling alley too.. But I think my main concern is you being able to take your time and separate all the metals. I know I've been in rush situations where if I had separated the metals and broken down motors I would have wasted time and someone would have made it to haul before I got back, and I know this because they showed up not too long after I got back to the haul and was re-loading AND they tried to get me to share it with them... (there were more people then there was scrap around here... and that just hurts all of us, so you kinda have to be 'cutthroat') - Oh yea, I had no idea about the 'shape' decided if it was prepared or not... I thought it meant 'cleaned' or not (not clean of dirt or rust, but clean of bushing, other types of metals, plastics, etc) I NEVER had anything about the shape define the category... maybe if they are larger pieces then it does... you learn something new every day!!! - So if you do end up with a LOT of footage you could always make two medium sized videos... personally I like longer videos, but that's not the same with most people..... but no matter I hope you have a GREAT WEEK!!! BE SAFE, BE WELL, and STAY AWESOME!!!!! (and make SURE to ALWAYS wear your steel toes!!!) :)

That's part of a Brunswick pinsetter. Probably an older A model. But maybe a A2.

My scrapyard went best buddies with me all of a sudden. I brought in the copper and brass from a milkshake machine that apparently froze over and backed into the refrigerant lines. i didn't cut the brass off, they did it for me, counted my motor copper as bare bright #2 instead of just #2. Compared to the last time i brought in motor copper, that made me $25 more for the same weight. There's a new/revived scrap yard that just opened 2 weeks ago and i think they're trying to keep regular scrapers.

I kinda hurts my heart seeing those pin setters getting chopped up. I sent 17 years working on Brunswick machines. Do yourself a favor and ask them to leave the gearboxes a side for you.

The gearboxes? Is there something special about them? I have some pieces that fit that description in a pile I was about to break down

@@thubprint they are cast ally. And also the pin decks are cast ally. The first thing you picked up is a gearbox housing. But there are a few pieces missing from the one you picked up.

At first I shouted at the screen... YOU FOOL! GO BACK WITH THE TRAILER!... and through the magic of KZbin, across barriers of time and space, you must have heard my nagging, and all was right again with the world. Then I thought "You fool, go to U-haul, rent a $37/day trailer, leave it there for them to fill instead of the dumpster". I still think that's a good plan. That, or a bigger trailer, like a car hauler. If I hadn't just dropped my car hauler back to the farm, I'd have lent it to you.

You need to put a "D" clip in your tongue hitch to make sure it doesn't pop off the ball. You don't want to lose your trailer on the street! How I envy what you've got there!

with those triangular pin alignment racks that were stainless and you dropped off at your house, they looked to have a bunch of cast iron on them, and where I scrapped the cast iron was separate in it's own class and price... usually about 1.3x more than unprepared... so before you toss it in the pile next time you go to the yard, you should really look into this, especially because cast iron and a lot more dense than prepared/light iron and unprepared .... so it might be about 1.5x more going by size/density and price :D - oh and I was MAD at you for a minute or two because I thought you just tossed those big bronze/brass wheel in the iron pile when you first went to the yard... I yelled at the screen "YOU JUST THREW AWAY LIKE $40 UA BIG DUMMY!!" lol but then I saw you saved it in the back of the bed :) - GREAT SCORE!!! You BETTER have gone back there in the morning with your trailer!! Even if you had other plans (like a "normal" job lol)and better have CANCELED THEM AND WORKED THAT BIN TILL ITY WAS EMPTY because you would make MORE MONEY from it than a day at a 9 to 5, you would be out in the open "fresh" air, you'd be relieving stress with 'destruction tetris' or whatever you called it, AND you'll always wonder just how much you could have made if you would have just stayed the course!!! okay.. I only paused when you stopped home to drop off the pin arraignment things.... sop ON WITH THE SCRAPPING!!! :D
