I worked with a girl and one of the burglars was her nephew - she said they were both drunk and decided to climb over the wall to rob a souvenir from Duncs house (so they new he lived there)- she said she visited her nephew the following day and he was a right mess - she said the family berated the lad for trying to steal from big Dunc but he was in hospital for a good few days - well in Dunc you took no prisoners on the pitch and they got what they deserved !!

I seem to recall one got battered whilst the second of the two burglars escaped after receiving a good leathering. Merseyside Police arrested Big Dunc for "assault" (Absurd isn't it? For defending his home and family!) Incredibly, some other morons didn't heed the lesson and attempted another break-in at Big Dunc's home at a later date. This time Ferguson man-handled the intruder and restrained him until the coppers arrived. The ensuing newspaper headlines said it all: "WARNING: DO NOT BURGLE THIS MAN"

It's normal protocol for the police to arrest you if you defend yourself in any way, they have to as they do need to formally question you in order to get all the facts, They aren't just going to take it on your word that you didn't antagonize the people in any way. If your story checks out the likelihood is you won't get charged but it's not the police's job to make that call it's the Prosecutor Fiscals job.
