@user-kc7nd8re3y I would not be so quick to make a comparison at all honestly. They each have/had their own focuses; however, both obviously care about the ecosystems and each incremental part of their respective biomes within their study (including every animal, plant, and fungus) to a degree that you could call it pure love. You could always hear it in Steve's voice and eyes just like you can hear it in Paul's. It's just too bad we never got to see a Steve Irwin Adventure Podcast or something of the like. He was partly constrained by working with corporations and networks like Animal Planet that themselves were directly constrained to shareholder desire and aversion.

You guys are both legends. You bring my inner child out. I have a 3 year old son, and he loves searching for bugs in our backyard. I always let him explore but show him to respect life. This gives me an old perception, a view on life I forgot about. It's in all of us! Raise these kids right, put effort into your time after work. Keep them busy with cool free things like nature! I love in Washington state, west of the cascades. Better believe we will be camping a lot. I'm not a hunter but fishing for salmon in our rivers is on the menu. I just went thru the strangest deja vu with the jungle stories. I am now 68 yr old woman but at age 21 my anthropologist brother invited everyone in our family & friends to come visit him. I was the sole person who jumped at the chance. He is a renown primative nomadic indigenous Indian anthropologist and his first experience was the Ache’ on the Brazil and Paraguay border. Way to much to tell, and I rarely do as to what I saw and did for my month stay. I did go out with a group of around 5 families of male/female and their kids. The woman carried kids up to around 2 yrs either tied onto their heads or kids ride piggy back. It was to be a 5 day trip and the main goal was raw honey and they knew where to find it. I had a small light backpack and with 3 hrs of walking in this absolutely exhausting jungle, exactly as you described, I kept falling behind the group. The men seperate and are out with their bows killing monkey, armadillo and a large rodent that looked like a huge rat😂. The women told one of the kids around 10 yrs. To carry my pack and had the 5-6 children walk with me all day. These kids would climb a tree in an opening and continually find the adults. I tried to test myself and was always lost and redirected by the kids in minutes. Bottom line is water became all I thought about. When we finally came up to a small stream and I was so excited for clean water, the kids jumped in upstream and my clear beautiful water got churned up with mud. I started to cry & told my brother I couldn’t go further. He said exactly these words that I’ll never forget. “You can either sit down and you’ll be dead here, or keep walking and don’t think about any other thing than continual movement. I watched them kill a live monkey by swinging it by its legs and the head hit a tree trunk. Then they seared the hair off on our night fire and then took a knife and scraped off the hair. They flipped this monkey over and over, cooking it on the fire. The man then crack off the head and handed it off to the kids who seemed to be sucking out the brains. I was so out of my element and tried to watch and learn but reacting to everything with my own emotions. I tried to eat some armadillo but I couldn’t even taste the monkey. I ate very little. Day 2 at night camp the males told my brother that I’m holding up the group and won’t make it and so they are sending me back with the kids to the base living area. I lived off some hard candies I took in my pocket and charcoal sweet rice. Amazing the kids got me out of the jungle and back to my shack that I stayed in. This is the shortest most simplified version I can give you to tell you how your stories took me back to that time. I am sooooo thankful I went. I got to truly step thru a time tunnel and see how life for us humans started. The stories could be regurgitated for hours of how many strange and bizarre things I experienced. I love that you are a kindred spirit and when given the chance, you went. Thank you!
