6:36 "Zendaya's talent and star power almost go without saying at this point. Since Euphoria she's been maybe the most prominent other than Emma Stone" Oh please, don't insult Emma like this. Zendaya is overrated af. She's got like 2 expressions she cycles between. She dials in the same performance whether it's in Euphoria, Spiderman or Dune. LIterally zero charisma and appeal beyond being a stuckup tomboy. She took me out of the movie every time she spoke in Dune Part 2.

Zendaya is a pretty woman with a unique look but not much acting talent. I still cant believe the uploader said that her and Chalamet had good chemistry. I can barely type it out without laughing too hard.

Good video mate - been enjoying your content. Re the Chani/Irulan conflict - you are right, they changed it frome the books; in the books Chani actually supports it as a political necessity and Paul never consumates his marriage with Irulan. It is purely political and even though people resist his rule and it leads to the holy war - his position isn't fully secure so it is seen as a beneficial marriage to him. Same re water of life - I think this is something hard to get across in film; the reason he changes makes sense in the book - in essence the water of life allows paul to supercharge his prescient abilities and have full access to all 'genetic' memories from his ancestors (male and female), thus it changes his perspective on everything
@freshfrozen17129 ай бұрын
Ahh I see, the marriage and water make more sense with that context. Thanks sm for the kind words 💙 love your vids btw!

The movie is based on a book. It sounds like you don’t know there is an incredible series of books for this franchise. The book explains the water of life and its transformative powers.

I can see why the Water of Life is confusing. To be fair Denis does as little exposition as possible in his movies, and the wacky Bene Gesserit is no exception. My best advice is to rewatch the Bene Gesserit related scenes (Or Parts 1 & 2 in their entirety) with motifs, questions, theories, ideas, etc, in mind. Pay attention to the details of what Denis DOES show, be it visual, sound, score, what have you. Ideas to consider: Whats with the obsession with the feminine? Why are there no computers? What future could possibly be worse than a galaxy-spanning Holy War? I'm avoiding the obligatory jUSt-rEaD-thE-bOoK, because I think Denis' adaptation stands on it's own merit and bears rewatching.

Some nice points, but Zendaya was weakest casting choice. Instead of some beautiful, talented actress, they chose one who look more like a boy and have two, tops three facials expressions and behaving like fremen version of Karen. I don’t understand why people are so enamored with her. Other then that, I have quite enjoyed the movie. Chani in the books was loving, supporting and still capable. In the movie, I think Paul would do better to ditch her for her bitchiness and be with the princess in every aspect.

Hey, when you say Dune part 2's character change was sudden and forced, can you recommend movies that execute the idea of a drastic character change well done

Denis Villineuve is the most over rated director, he has no real style. Fincher does have a style that you can see in every movie he makes. I swear this video made me feel like I was in an alternate reality. I essentially hold the complete opposite opinions as you, Im your Rust Cohle.

@sole__doubt10 ай бұрын
@@freshfrozen1712 Denis actually does have a style now that I think about it. If you watch a movie and think to yourself these shots are too long and 30 minutes of the movie shouldve been cut, you're watching a movie from DV.

Zendaya is horrible and the portrayal of the emperor is stupid and horrible. Breaks the story. And I love Christopher Walken. You need to read the book to know how horrible this film is. Villenueve is not as good as you think. Not even close. 2049 was horrible. Dune part 2 is horrible. Chalamet is great. Zendaya sucks. And Florence sucks as Irulan.

Best sci-fi movie since 2049 isn't saying much since 2049 was a lame, boring, overly long retelling of Pinocchio masquerading as Bladerunner.
@freshfrozen171210 ай бұрын
That's actually a good comparison I hadn't thought about 😂 perfect example of taking a framework and making it better, just like Dune 2
@earlgrayman98210 ай бұрын
Does Dune 2 'make it better?' I've only seen part 1 but thus far its stilted, clunky and unimaginatively 'on the nose' with baffling choices like: "What Denis had stated to me was there was a lack of female characters in his cast, and he had always been very feminist, pro-women, and wanted to write the role for a woman,” Duncan-Brewster says." something no would would say about the Lynch version.@@freshfrozen1712
