We see Atreides attacking the Fremen! We see Harkonnen, lift the Death Hand. We see the Padishah Emperor as the root of it! His Palace must be destroyed! Our Saboteur will see to it! His acting in Dune 2000 actually reminds me of Malcolm McDowell's portrayal of Alex in "A Clockwork Orange", so much so that I had to check if it WAS McDowell (who did appear in cinematics of a few Wing Commander games as well in Fallout 3 as a voice actor). But it was not him. The actor's name is Robert Carin.

Wierdly enough Robert Carin(Hayt de Vries) the Harkonnen Mentat in "Dune:2000" does a better job playing as Piter de Vries than Brad Dourif did.

The mentat Hayt De Vries (played by Robert Carin) is supposed to be a _Ghola_ (Bene Tleilax clone) of a previous Harkonnen mentat - most likely Piter DeVries (played by Brad Dourif).

It's a shame he didn't appeared in "Emperor: Battle for Dune" being the Mentat of Baron Rakan Harkonnen and his sons Gunseng and Copec who are expies of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen and Glossu Rabban, respectively.

Carin is so much better for the role though! In the books it says that Piter had a mellifluous sweet voice, whereas Dourif has a harsh and flat voice. I wish they had cast Carin in the Lynch movie. Though, he might have been too young, I can't find Carin's birthdate. Funny thing about Carin, you watch this video and an episode of Beverly Hills Bordello and you've basically seen his entire work as an actor. I wish he had done more acting, I'm a big fan just for the Hayt role. When I was about 11, I begged my Dad to track down Lynch's Dune because I wanted to see Piter. I was expecting the same actor, and I was unpleasantly surprised by Dourif.

The Dune 2000 mentats rarely interact with others, so the strength of their own performances made the cutscenes. Edric O and Hayt are my all time favorites across all games/movies. Whilst the Westwood Atriedes are a bit bland for my tastes I will not fault Gimli, son of Glóin. "Emperor, we come for you" is a line I've repeated many times.

Ironically, this Expy of Mentat Piter de Vries, despite taking direct influence from Dune(1984), is far Truer-to-the-Text to the Novel version of Piter being a Fast-talking, Mentally Unstable and Whimsical Psychopath.

I know, right? I had a huge crush on Hayt around age 11 after seeing him in this game. I'd heard that it was Dourif in the movie, and I thought it was Dourif in the game too. Then when I saw the movie, I was naively expecting the same actor, even though the movie was like 15 years before the game. Dourif was pushing 50 at the time, and this is obviously a much younger man. In any case, I was disappointed by Dourif's harsh and flat voice, when the book clearly says the Harkonnen mentat has a musical, sweet, sing-songish voice and was a bit of a sleaze. Carin's performance is perfect and amazingly true to the book. I'm sad he hasn't been in more stuff, I'm a huge fan for his performance here.

Me too! I adore him. He's much better than Dourif. Piter was supposed to have sweet musical tones to his voice, and Dourif's voice is harsh and flat. Dourif's good at playing psychopaths, but for this role he wasn't really suitable.

Why don't the Harkonnen and Atreides mentats consume spice melange instead of sapho juice? Spice enhances everything. Plus I'd rather have glowing blue eyes than stained lips.

+Tony Koter Sapho Juice increases mental capability, and also enhances the intelligence of the consumer. Its kool-aid for mentats. :p Not to mention, spice is hard to get without having to go to war for it.

Tony Koter Keep in mind the Ordos are just badass mercantilists who can afford pretty much anything. So yes, the Ordos are an exception, considering they have plenty of money needed to buy spice rather than fight for it. :p

***** That claim is wrong. Harkonnens have no such wealth, not in the books, movies, or games. Yeah, they have sadistic and powerful weaponry, but they use fear and threats to gain respect and often kill their own for the sake of it, which is why they always gain little support amongst their people and fall to the other two houses (hence their slow unit production). The Ordos on the other hand hire their soldiers (whom are mercenaries with combat experience in their belts) and promise them wealth and power, with the appropriate punishment dealt to those if necessary. Not even with the Sardaukar could the Harkonnens be able to stop Ordos and their crafty ways. That's why Ordos triumphs over Harkonnen any day. They are far more resourceful than the bloodthristy Harkonnens.
