This actually makes a lot of sense. In Dune 2 its revealed that the Baron actually saw Jessica when she was a baby where as in the book its suggested that the Baron never knew he had a daughter.

One thing I noticed about the actors of DUNE compared to the actors of Marvel or another overused franchise, they’re very enthusiastic about it, they all light up explaining the lore or their part in the scene they know the characters names, it’s funny how tangible sets and well thought out story can really bring actors back to life.

Which is silly to say since Marvel's lore is amazing. It's nothing to do with the story, it's about the environment on set and the director you're working with. Marvel is crazy about secrecy and getting shit done because they have deadlines. That's why the actors aren't that into sharing about it. Habit and just exhaustion from work and the press tours.

How would an actor be proud or inspired by role of Antman. There are simply no multilayers in Marvel characters. Dune is old style movie and made well, with great story and acting covering complex characters.

I know strong auteurs like Villeneuve have the power to keep the direction of the release largely under their control, but they're still some aspects, like runtime, that need to be compromised on. For Dune 1.2, despite its 2¾ hr runtime, I've never felt it due to its engaging story, exceptional pacing, and editing. However, even at almost 3 hr, I could've easily sat through ½ or 1 HR more of footage.

Would be a horrible idea. No need for material that didn't fit the final cut. People mention various movies with added footage. It can work sometimes, lotr added too much and the final cuts are way better because of this. What you must also realize is that there are movies with a final cut that is just wrong. There are a number of films where you could cut a lot of scenes and the movie would flow/work better. No need to add anything. Also, good or bad isn't the same as what you like or don't like. You may like the extended lotr, it doesn't mean it is any better than the final cut.

All these deleted scenes make me think there's a great mini-series to be found. They did this with Australia on Disney Plus, where the movie was rearranged (including deleted scenes) and cut up into five or six parts or so. I'd love to see Dune in that format, Part 1 AND two respectively.

Denis seems to be very against even letting the audience see his deleted scenes as a dvd feature. He says he deleted them for a reason. I doubt he’d be on board for making extended series for HBO max, but after he directs messiah they could do it without him maybe, but I doubt they’d want to piss him off for no reason.

The scene she is talking about is also in the book, maybe a little bit different because I remember that there was also Peter De Vries in that scene. But in the book there is a scene where Jessica is lying on the ground, bound and suddenly the baron appears with his mental Peter, the next scene she is in the onnittopter with his son Paul, both bound to be left in the desert by harkonnen’s soldiers

Maybe it’s supposed to be a memory of her mother’s or of her own time in her mother’s womb. It’s possible that Jessica, being so genetically close to Paul or Paulina/Feyd’s planned son, is getting visions or some sort of partial unlocking of what she gets from the infinite girl knowledge gatorade.

The Baron doesn’t know he’s Jessica’s father specifically, at least in the book. In the book he has no known heirs which is why Feyd is the Na-Baron. Just like how we saw Feyd and Lady Fenring in Part 2, a bene Gesserit (won’t spoil which one) got his seed and then dipped out. She’s a descendant of Vlad but not an heir.

In the books Baron sort of helped jessica unknowingly. Peter, his mentat wanted jessica but the baron talked him out of it. Even though he didn't know its his daughter he save her from peter and sent her with Paul to die. She escapes anyway but it could have gone completely wrong. He was unintentionally a father in that moment. Great book scene.

Rebecca Ferguson's appeal is such that, while it's not immediately apparent, it grows on you, and once it does, you wonder why you didn't see how adorable and cute she is from the beginning. When she's not acting, when she's not in costume and she's just being Rebecca, that's when you see her, and to me, that's what makes her so lovable as a person and as a woman.

there was a weird moment in the book where the baron asked for a boy who looked like paul to be sent to his bedroom early in the book and pretty soon after we find out that paul is his grandson. it’s v unsettling and i understand why they didn’t include an equally unsettling scene with jessica in the movie

In the book, Baron Harkonnen had a few more creepy details-the worst of which was when he ordered for “The one with the lovely eyes, the one who looks so much like the young Paul Atreides” to be drugged and brought to his sleeping chambers.

I wonder if it would have confused audiences about the identity of Paul’s sister, who is unborn and is supposed to be an Atreides. People would have been disgusted by the incest of course, but also doubting whether Jessica was giving birth to her own half-sister.
