Good, laminar winds & time. Of course commitment as well, but Gem, you got this. It's all what it takes :) And yes, bit of patience as well :) Indeed, you've made huge improvements in those 2 weeks already!! Keep it up!! Lots of us are dreaming about such conditions 😁 👍👏.

Well I must say Gemma's improving in "Leaps & Bounds" ... b'dum tish :D and I like the way you're coaching her too, clear and easy to understand. lovely spot for dune hopping, would love to have a play on them there dunes !! :)

Love it perhaps you should run winter ground handling classes. No tripod police at that location then! Gemma made some really nice beach art with those slug trails. I see you attracted another paraglider, Some of the shots of Bruce's new wings in the sun against a blue sky looked good, I bet he is well pleased. Next stage blind fold Gemma or tell her not to look at the wing so much but she is really improving. Have fun.

ahah yeah I think we have those fun challenges kept in our pocket for the last week perhaps :D

Dear Gemma, I thought you did just fab. girl, I am enjoying your learning journey, I just wish where I live we had nice mellow dunes and laminar wind. All the best see you tomorrow.

Gemma,you did an awesome recovery without letting the wing just hit the ground when Andre kinda got in the way.If you pushed off backwards and spun in the air would that be a doublebacker launch? Also it would of been funny if you said to Andre" What's a Dune Jumpah".lol Take care ,can't wait till tomorrows video.

I watched it again,maybe the shape of the dunes together was causing a rotor draft,a suction which is why maybe the wing was stubborn. An indepth observation.

Thanks for another fun and informative video. I love your stuff! On a different note, check you volume in the video. The intro music was blaring and the next segment was really quiet.

Great job, huge improvement in confidence and control already. For me I started to have less roll (side to side) when I started to think about how the wing takes half a second (ish) to respond to my inputs, so for example I have to stop pulling left break a little before the wing is where I want it to be. There's more to it than that of course but just my two cents.
@AndreBandarra16 жыл бұрын
I think that's bang on and is exactly what happens. I think Gemma ended up realizing that and with more practice it will eventually click. Thanks for the input

Just to ask, Gemma's comment about keeping the wing above her, maybe we can have the master or coach explain how to do that at the top of the hill, is a normal thing to have a wing continue to move side to side? Thanks again to the duets for taking us all through the process.
@AndreBandarra16 жыл бұрын
I think the side to side rocking is just practise Peter. I find it usually happens if you react "out of tempo" with the wing. Meaning if you bring it from the left to the center you pull the right brake. But you have to release the right brake and "counter-steer" with the left brake so that the wing starts to slow down before it reaches the center and comes to a complete stop exactly above you. If this counter-steering reaction is delayed the wing will overshoot to the other side and then when you try to bring it back from the right to the center you might run into that problem again if you react a bit late. Then this keeps going and oscillating from side to side until you react "just in time". I think being on top of a hill might also accentuate this imbalance because the wind is stronger so small inputs create more movement.

As a side tip, can you share what you do to keep the wing so clean - especially after a session on sand (wet/dry). I just did one session on sand, and sand has literally reached everywhere in the wing :( and it doesn't look as good as it did before.. haha..
@AndreBandarra16 жыл бұрын
I think I need more experience to know what to do with it because our wings get full of sand too. it's hard

Got any tips for keeping sand out of the glider?

Hey Gemma, keep at it you're doing great! The wing is moving about because you have let it lift you into a bad stance, with your arms blocking against the risers. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4mViGSIi5yUd7c might help you. You need to drop your head down and forward through the risers to get a better control position with bent legs and lower CG. This will also help you get into the harness in the air.

Gemma: "I love Greg! He's such a nice guy and so knowledgeable. That makes loads of sense!" ahahah Looks like your teaching style goes down with her way better than mine! :P Thanks a lot Greg! really helps and the quick short video is invaluable.
