@@George-sc4yh I'm going to watch it today in my country and I've almost finished the first book: I garantee it's not that complicated as people usually thinks. It's a story with depth and complexity, but not incredibly hard to follow. And to give you more relief: the aim of the director was to balance between the movie being a worthy adaptation of the books AND accessible to the general public. He was pretty adamant on this last part, and seeing how currently this movie has a pretty high rating in IMDB, the same as such movies as Alien and Terminator, it must mean that both critics and normie moviegoers loved this movie, considering that nobody likes movies too convoluted to follow, signaling thus that he indeed managed to make it accessible for everyone.

I've read all 6 original DUNE books, and seen the 80s film and the sci-fi channel series. This new movie is superb! Amazing acting, costumes, sets & cinematography, and the soundscape is awe inspiring. Highly recommend for DUNE fans and for any new to the story. I'm so impressed with how this film version takes the original source material and follows it so well within a movie setting (of course minor changes, or omissions, are necessary in a film). I was really worried the film & director would have a hard time balancing the deeper tension of the sociopolitical drama, the mystical & foreboding powers, as well as the action. The books often have very long monologs, pages of internal dialogue, & contextual information, so I was glad to see this film tackle these themes while still maintaining a beautiful, and enthralling film. My husband us unfamiliar with DUNE and he was totally drawn in by the story/plot, acting, and music. You can take anyone to see this film with you

its a movie about worms....literally....and a dude that turns into a worm and then dies. i gurantee you, you will hate it. its one of the worst sci-fi series ever made. Its like starwars but 100 times worse. the entire conflict happens inside his head. the books get progressively worse. some stories lost most of their appeal in a visual medium. there's a reason he looks dead on the screen...its bc he's already dead on the inside lol. There are no real aliens either, its just humans. its honestly awful. Even the writting style is horrendous. IF it makes it into a relatively cool movie it will only be if they significantly alter the entire plot. Otherwise: sand, giant worms, emo ppl, repeat. They have never been able to make the whole series even tho they keep trying bc its just THAT bad. Ppl just lose interest. To this day its one of the main reasons I don't like sci-fi. Its like one of those ''caught in a dream" stories but its supposed to span thousands of years. The author was allegendly on drugs when he wrote it. Which is why it gets progressively worse lol.
@andrabook87583 жыл бұрын
OH and bc it all happens inside his head the audience always knows what;s gonna happen next. its honestly horrible. Its like an exercise in sucking every bit of joy out of reading a book. The author got the idea for it after watching ppl trying to plant grasses to stabilize sand dunes. Yeah....and he figured in his crazed brain on drugs that ''what if we didn;t do that, and the dunes just never ended"....and then he wrote a book about sand dunes. ANd before anyone yells spoilers, I did not say anything which is not on the cover of the novels or on wiki....so, yeah. The most fascinating part of this, the worms...are never explained. You never find out more than is in the trailer. They're just giant worms on a planet of sand. thats it. the end.

Interesting Fact, Frank Herbert's Dune was so complicated and ahead of its time, some filmmakers in the 70s couldn't catch up to the novel's setting and had to cancel due to high budget. Then came later à proper movie in 1984, which only managed to follow half the novel's setting. But now 2021, Dennis Villeneuve managed to create this masterpiece, staying true to the original novel back in 1965. Its crazy that it took more than 50 years to catch up to Frank Herbert's imagination, he was way ahead of his time.

This was perhaps my most anticipated film of this year and it did not dissapoint. Denis Villeneuve like always has delievered strongly with this movie. My only complaint is that I wish it were longer because the whole lore surrounding the Dune universe is a lot to absorb and it seemed a bit jumpy in the early segments of the movie but maybe that's because I watch too many shows and expect everything to be as in depth as an 8 hour long show. The soundtrack for the movie was amazing it's Hans Zimmer so what more can we expect from the maestro. The scene with the sand worm towering over Paul in the last segment of the movie had powerful music and made the scene even greater. I was completely blank about what the story is about I did a bit of research but after watching the movie I feel like reading the books too the whole lore is so intriguing, it has so many layers to it. Timothee Chalomet is one of the most talented young actors out there right now and imo the best at the moment he compeletely embodies all the characters he plays as and I loved him in this movie although we got to see only a few intense scenes which seperates the great from the good and he did not let us down. Overall Villeneuve has built a strong base for a trilogy.

Anyone who's watched all his films can make a case for him being the greatest filmmaker. They may not win but the case can be made. As far as direction is concerned, the skill of blocking and framing and execution a narration... Villeneuve is undoubtedly the best. He has stuck to the fundamentals and elevated it. Ari Aster, Scorcese, Kurosawa, Cuaron and of course the legend that is Bergman are also up there. But many of these greats were limited by smaller scopes. Villeilneuve has executed larger scaled stories with the same precision that the greats directed their more intimate films. So by a standardized definition, he is hands down the best director of all time.

Thing with Dune is that book format is the best for it, and making it into a movie will inevitably remove a crucial layer of it's storytelling 'plans within plans', what's happening inside characters heads, their internal monologues, which makes the book such a unique and fascinating read, all of that will be 'lost in translation', and brought into what it looks like 'Star Wars' level of storytelling. I'm honestly very skeptical about this movie, you want to fully immerse yourself in Dune universe, read it.

Tarantino never fails to deliver an entertaining film, they are nearly all good, but not one of them is 'Great', Spielberg is undeniably brilliant - only he's well past his best, and even his best sci-fi was never amongst the greatest (E.T. vs Blade Runner! lol)... Nolan is lately disappearing down his own rabbit hole (Tenet was mostly a failure of imagination), and Scorsese was only ever good in Mafiosa et al films - and even then several steps behind Godfather. As Layth wisely states - of current top-of-their-game directors to direct Dune... Villeneuve is clearly top of the list. Its probably true for most movies? Graphics and sounds should most of the time sound better in the theaters compared to your home television. But don't just assume everyone places the artistic qualities that highly when rating the experience of a movie. Good acting, good story, novelty, humour, action and so on are all alternative factors that contribute, but the order of importance varies and is highly subjective. Avoid self objecting when you can. We're all alternate versions of who you could have been but we don't experience life exactly like you.
