Now thats a bunch of badasses , running just with their uniform against an army, in the middle of explosions and certain death. Absolutely fantastic movie

I still can't get over the risk of firing a laser at a shielded craft.

Yeah that bothered me a lot. Maybe the shield got knocked offline from the collisions though?

@@s.31.l50 We would hope. If it was that easy to knock a shield down, I would have expected heavy artillery to have remained relevant. Use hight explosives to drop shields then carve them up with lasers.

Eh, it jives with the book. As I recall the Harkonnen were quite reckless with their use of laser weaponry. To the point that Duncan baited then into shooting a active shield, with the expected results....

@@ilikeguns15 True but that was in the middle of nowhere and Fremen don't use shields.

@@razorburn645 That actually happened in the movie. It was subtle but the books went into greater detail. Large scale use of shields rendered artillery obsolete, since multiple layers of shields are often used, meaning pure infantry combat primarily revolving around melee was the standard. However, the Baron recognized that such an old weapon still had its uses and utilized them expertly in his invasion of Arrakis. By bringing down the main shield, it rendered all other shielded craft vulnerable to artillery, since the double layer of protection was gone. Keep in mind, artillery hadn't been used in centuries because of the advent of shields. If you rewatch the movie, you'll see the artillery platforms activate and start launching rounds which come raining down on the Atreides ships and soldiers. Not only did they use artillery but also different flavors of rounds. There was one shot of a cluster munition being used...Again, old tech by the in-Universe standard. This is why espionage and subterfuge is so prevalent in DUNE. Conventional methods of war have been rendered relatively useless without the ability to create openings and exploit them...Much like the shields themselves, it's an allegory for how war (and mankind) have regressed despite the progress of technology and exploration of super-human abilities. In the modern age, speed is the cornerstone of warfare. In the future, it's slow methodical planning, right down to the way the slow blade penetrates the shield in a calculated and measured strike.

What about ARMADA 10 min version? That was also used for battle scene!
