The thing that struck me the most about the song when it was played in the movie is that fundamentally, the bagpipe section is structured essentially the same as a funeral March, rather than as a proper military march or anything else. When this song plays, it is signifying that House Atreides is marching to its death.

It just came to me. Another name for Scotland was Caledonia. When the British explored the South East Pacific, they named one of the islands New Caledonia. On a different but similar topic, the Brothers Grimm in Germany discovered that the pronunciation and even the consonants in words change over time, so a planet discovered via space telescope and sleeper ships when Captain Kirk and crew would be using stardates like 2300, may have been New Caledonia, over time the 'new' was dropped and Caledonia became 'Caladan' Salesia Secondus becomes Selusa Secundus, etc.

Caladan is kind of Celtic in its climate, Caladan sounds like "Caledonia", however, House Atreides claim to literally be descended from the same House Atreides (the House of Atreus) from Greek mythology. But it makes sense that cultures would all be mixed up 20,000 years in the future. The emperor is called the "Padishah" Emperor, an Iranian term, and the Great Houses are organized in the "Landsraad", which comes from German. It's all a mix.

When I first heard this song I thought it would be the song that would play during the final battle with the Sardaukar because of the throatsinging noises, I loved part 2 but was disappointed this wasn't in it.

As impressive and noble as house Atreides is, it's important to remember that they're ultimately still a colonial power on Arrakis and no better than the Harkonnens from a moral perspective, and even the supposedly 'honorable' Duke Leto isn't exa- (Bagpipes kick in) *ATREIDES! ATREIDES! ATREIDES! A-*

Not all colonial powers are the same. The british is superiour morally as an colonial power than, say, the belgian. No?
@pseudonymousbeing9872 жыл бұрын
@@dickiewongtk I would agree that the Atreides are in fact morally superior the Harkonnens, even purely in terms of their colonial venture and not considering their smaller scale values and practices within the system they partake in.

The fact that the theme for House Atreides, which are fighting against an Empire, uses bagpipe is soooo cool and not-so-subtle nod to real life.
