One thing I liked about this movie was that the relationship between Paul and his mother is not the typical "I'm the adult, so I know things better than you" between them. Whenever he stated "we gotta do it this way" his mother agreed and didn't needlessly berate him and waste time on artifical drama dialog as many other movies and shows do.

I was hoping someone would upload this scene. Most movies back then always made me think of other things, or other movies, pretty normal. This, however, is the first movie that had scenes that reminded me of maybe something from a dream. This movie had some shots that seemed like liminal spaces. In the shot of the dunes with the greyish blue sky and two moons, it was very reminiscent without knowing why. Edit: I forgot about another one, sure enough, another Villeneuve movie. One 3 second clip in "Bladerunner 2049," the hallway scene at Wallace Corp. with the replicant models in the cases. That made me think of a dream or some feeling as well. So, maybe it's just elements of Villeneuve's production teams that can seem like liminal spaces.

Which, aren’t humans (or rather the water in our bodies) poisonous to the worms? What non-human prey of theirs makes rythmic beats, that they would be instinctively attracted to them?
@AberrantChibi2 жыл бұрын
@@FreemanicParacusia From what I recall, water is indeed poisonous to the worms, as it supercharges certain vital processes. Given the size of adult worms however, I do not think a human or even a small group of them have enough water in them for this supercharging effect to take place. Water being poisonous is kind of odd because from what I've read in Dune it is implied or suggested that Arrakis is that dry because the worms somehow "locked up" the available water? Somehow? Maybe the worms do require liquid water to an extend, but too much results in an overdose. As for what prey the worms have... They are said to be *fiercely* territorial, so it's less that they're hunting and more that anything which thumps in their territory which isn't them is a rival to be elimated, I guess. This is also why the Holtzmann Shields are useless on Arrakis, as it's vibrations drive the worms into a murder-frenzy. I hope this helps.

The director said he wasn't going to include any jokes so the movies would be close to the books but it looks like the comments have taken care of that. The two I've seen mentioned most are Weapon of Choice by Fatboy Slim especially the music video with future emperor Christopher Walken and Monty Python's ministry of silly walks. I am currently reading through the first book (or however Dune works a page recently said I'm now in book 2) and some people have mentioned that Paul went psycho at this point in the book which he kind of did because I would guess that he's having a massive panic attack about his current situation. I won't go into spoilers so I don't ruin it for those of the comments who are also reading the book or are waiting for part 2 (which I hear is going to be a bit of a downer) but let me just say that if I was in Paul's position I would be freaking out as well.

Another idea: Make a simple drone with a step sound generator. The drone flies far into the desert, lands somewhere and starts stomping the sand. The worm rushes for the drone, the drone detects how the sand vibrates as the worm approaches and takes off quickly - only to land a mile away and continue. The worm would get tired very soon.
