agreed much Duncan-Brewster was much better than Von Sydow as with the film which is only the first half her death isn't in vain though The Fremen via Paul Muad dib's Fedyakin beat the Padishah Emperor and his Sardaukar as well The Harkonnen yes we show a glimpse of the battle i will expect more will be expanded on in Part 2

Small detail but I loved the way the pierced stilsuit sprays water like that. Also this looks like another smaller worm (the one that eats the crawler is a monster)
@GrandHighGamer2 жыл бұрын
To some degree that's probably down to the age rating disallowing spurts of blood (also part of the reason the shields flash red - wouldn't make much in-universe sense for shields to notify that they're letting through something dangerous instead of just stopping that thing, but makes it much easier to tell someone's getting hurt). Kind of proof that limitations spurs creativity.
@jamesmohab2 жыл бұрын
@@GrandHighGamer most likely yeah, and those limits encouraged them toward something really memorable here (youre right about the red/blue on the shields too, instantly followable visual language) finding ways to make pg-13 fantasyfiction violence compelling is a welcome sight in the current enviornment of no-risk Disney movies and r-rated edgy stuff where people explode like boodbags.

I took it as a callback to the 84 version of Dune where I believe they tore the suit off of Kynes before sending him into the desert, where it spewed water everywhere.

Technically, it is. The one that attacked the crawler even had a name, Shai Hulud(The Old Man of the Desert). Another commentor mentions Paul mutters how he knew the worms footsteps in the crawler scene too.

@@GrandHighGamer Actually, I feel like the Red works cause there’s clearly a bit of wiggle room to when it first flashes red to when it makes solid contact, and someone fast enough might be able to twist to activate it. The red gives you a warning

A cool detail is that there is no blood when Kynes is stabbed. Instead she "bleeds" water, since water is more valuable than blood in the desert.

Much better than death from a sandblow in the book. While different, Liet's death is portrayed as falling to an "abyss" - with the Maker or the aftermath of pre-spice mass accumulation. At least here her death was an active act and not a passive one. She manages to take 3 Sardaukar to the grave nonetheless. True, needed narration was crucial in the novel but it would have been time-consuming in the movie. She is now one with Shai-Hulud.
@CuttingEdges2 жыл бұрын
While I absolutely love this scene, the hallucinations and memories of Liet’s father right before his death in the book is also great! I feel like both film and book for this particular scene have their pros and cons that equally balance out. Gives you a good reason to recommend reading the book, or watching the film after either.

Brother the Death of Kynes IS cool in the book because the Harkonnens can't kill him with a knife so they use the dessert as a Death Sentence Plus the doctor is thinking of changing the enviroment and is kill by the enviroment, themes that Dune Talk and Talk like the planet and the creation of warriors

I love that Kynes, as Fremen recognises even after being stabbed that she's landed on drum sand. You hear the dull thud as she stops rolling. At that point she knows there's no escape, she's already used her Thumper, Shai-Hulud is coming, even if she had the strength to lift herself to her feet she couldn't mask her vibrations on drum sand, so she embraces death.

@@Ploopljkklnbvyujvk9yo No no and no, we need to stop this nonsense of swapping male characters for black women. It s getting annoying. We can even see the feminist ideology in Chani in Dune part 2, which is also kinda annoying. As for whitewashing, that has been criticized quite extensively for years. Casting black women in male roles does not make it better

@@alucinado1021Doctor Kynes being dark skinned fits into the desert environment, and just because someone has dark skin doesn't mean they are african american. Also, the whole series is supposed to have a feminist message, what with a secret all-female society controlling the world's affairs. Bear in mind that the book was written in the 1960s, before this "woke" movement.
