I absolutely love this game. I played the core campaign earlier this year. At one point in the game, I won a scenario by selling Witch Weed I had looted and giving it to a settlement in the Badlands to help them resist the Goblins. First time I've ever employed a "Robin Hood if he was a Drug Dealer" strategy in a board game. :D It was on my table again for 3 weeks last month. The campaign in the Wetlands guide book is great and the mini-campaign in the Badlands guide (Arena + Wizard scenarios) is a great fight and explore intro for new players. In the mini-campaign, my heroes became legendary gladiators and then helped a wizard find and pilot a (kind of) UFO into the Eastern lands, where reportedly the next expansion will take place.

@@Utubesuxmycock I wish I could answer, but I haven't played those two. I'd say it's like Hexplore It, but replace the algebra with drugs. Or maybe Legends of Andor if you replaced the action economy with selling drugs. I actually won a DD game once by killing a wizard and selling his witch weed to help a poor settlement fortify against invasion. I was like Robin Hood. If he was a drug dealer. In conclusion, drugs.

@@Utubesuxmycock I love Talisman (only played 4th edition) and Runebound 2nd ed is one of my favorite games. I love DD and think *if* you enjoy the art/flavor of DD you will enjoy the gameplay and find it a step up from Talisman and providing a Runebound-like experience but developed more thoroughly. (I often find in Runebound that I'm trying to bring some more story in, but in DD it is already here.) If you have any problems with the DD art or flavor, the gameplay will not be enough to sell you on this game.

What is important to figure, when you are new to or get to introduce people to this game, is that, regarding the very first mission, "On The Run", if you chose to follow this path and to pick up the Soothsayer's Head, the Clue counters 1, 2 & 3 correspond, each, to a Town Level location that is outside the Lowlands. Not only they are so, but also the only Settlements with a Town Level at the start of the game, outside the Lowlands. Not always easy to explain why you should go either Pigskin Port, Gutfish Ford or Stone Circle. One simple answer to that is they all represent an escape from Brüttleburg, from the Law, from the Lowlands. As if it were common knowledge to everyone living in the Würstreich that these 3 Towns are the ones to go to if you want to stay away from the Law. Also note that Gutfish Ford & Stone Circle both belong to the Wetlands (GREEN).

I was always under the impression you had to pass the test to use the power dies result. Please tell me I'm wrong, that sounds so much easier lol
@OneStopCoopShop5 жыл бұрын
Ven Kaz Yes, but only for defense rolls while in guard stance. If you pass the test, your best die affects ALL enemies attacking you. If you fail the test in guard stance, your power die is subtracted from ONE enemy’s attack against you. Makes guarding my preferred strategy in most cases.

This seems really neat, especially to scratch that dungeon crawly D&D itch when you don't have a group, but I have to say I'm not a fan of rewards being based on who gets the kill. It seems like it can easily lead to a positive feedback loop where one character gets a few early kills and thus gets the cash and XP, which lets them improve so they are more effective and get more kills in the future which means more improvement, while leaving other characters lacking. This would be especially an issue if playing with friends since as a single person playing 2+ characters you can relegate less combat capable characters to other kinds of tasks, but when it's 3 people and each control 1 character it's not very fun to realize that you're the pack mule, for example. Not to mention this can lead to stuff that's just plain frustrating, like attacking an enemy and dealing 4 damage and then someone else deals just 1 damage but since that kills it, they get all the reward. I'm sure this isn't a big deal to some people but I personally think it's not great.
@OneStopCoopShop5 жыл бұрын
This absolutely COULD be an issue, but two things make it not as bad as you might think: 1 - Many scenarios actively encourage the characters to split up. Three of us were on different sides of the map in our game yesterday, for example. And in that case, of course, your kills are all your own :) 2 - I mentioned this as a negative in my review, but it sort of works in your favor on this point, and that's the fact that the skills and items actually don't make your character that much stronger. So if your character has twice as many skills as mine, there's a pretty good chance that you have more versatility, but aren't actually doing more than maybe 1 extra damage compared to me. Again, I think this is a bad thing in most cases, but it does mean that every character remains generally useful in any given fight. Not sure if those help at all!
