Haha, everyone hates one of my favorite games! I wonder if, whenever Tom plays, he always takes the treasure chests. One of the most interesting choices in the game is whether you want to spend a companion to open a chest or pass it by so you can try for one more staircase and descend to a better level. Also, depending on the character sheet's 5th level power, you may want to focus on gaining experience until you reach team level 5 and use your special power to make the coins rain. I wonder if some of these strategic choices were missed in the shoddy rulebook (I agree with him there). I started my game collection tentatively with dungeon roll, loved it, found this one, and love it even more. I've since added several dozen other games to my collection. It makes me sad to hear people hate on such a great, simple, quick game.

It's a simple game, I'll give you that. I understand your points, but even when taking them into consideration I still think that this game has barely any strategy at all.

Strikes me that some play tester told the dungeon roll designer that the dice were too random, and he decided cards were the way to mitigate that. A matter of overcompensation led in the wrong direction simply making things worse.

I was going through my collection the other day just dusting, opening boxes to looks at the components...and I noticed Dungeon Roll and Dungeon of Fortune have almost the exact same components too (same art, same functions...). Seems like one game failed so they reboxed it as the other.

From the review this game seems to be Dungeon Roll without dice.
@PurityThruFire9 жыл бұрын
NojoysSideshow Yes it certainly does, no dice...but all the same problems. Just like Dungeon Roll, there really is no push-your-luck, you pretty much know when you can stay and when you can leave. I see they added a pretty half-ass attempt at player interaction with the pilfer card, so now it's just a boring grind in which you might be able to steal a coin for someone. I like Tasty Minstrel Games, but this is just a bad joke at best.

why all the hate, it's a beer and pretzels table top game? perfect for Non-Game-Snobs who don't want to roll out a table filling, 3 hour, head spinning, game with a thousand rules. I played this with my family (adults) over a few drinks and had a blast. instead of rubbing my head and trying to min max tiny text on cards, we were able to laugh and have good conversation. Stop the hate on filler games please. my game group thrives on these. we each bring a filler of our choice play each 2-3 times and always have a blast. that's what games are for.... FUN. what's not fun is having people pick apart every aspect of a game and hearing people drone on about how this game and that one is better. just my opinion though.

Good points. Its true, most of my friends who still live local they aren't into multi hour complicated scenario ,maxi-rules games with a thousand damn markers,tokens,chits,wood chips and chunks and twenty piles of different cards. I look for smaller footprint games that are still interesting and have some intrigue and entertaining.

lol, the number of times you said "Token", holy crap. You can use this guy to get a token, and then you look at one of these tokens and the token can give you tokens that will help you get a better token score .

Tasty Minstrel, seriously guys, what are you doing? I challenge anybody to watch this well done review without getting puzzled by the poor design. Thanks Tom, i'll stay clear.

Blood Rage box doesn't fit in there :) You need to put it next to the other blood colored boxes :D

I can't see ever wanting to play this over Dungeon Roll. It seems to have the same feel (and the same problems) but without the dice...huh??? I feel this is a wasted effort with what could have been an expanded (and improved upon) Dungeon Roll-based board game.

I think they should let dungeon roll and dungeon of fortune mate...now that could be interesting....

Yikes I thought of buying this game, but I thought I should look into it first.

I recently bought this game at Barnes & Noble for $24 ... such a waste of $24. After my 10 yo son and I played a few cards ... all I could think is, Is this game as lame as it seems? Thankfully I found this review to confirm that we weren't just playing it wrong. I should be allowed to return it as a defective game. There is very little game in it. Like 1%. Also, Mr. Vasel makes a valid point about the rule book. Thank you Mr. Vasel. Perhaps I will try Ink and Gold. Perhaps I will watch all of your game reviews before purchasing another game!
@matthewharris-levesque58097 жыл бұрын
The game he referred to was *Incan Gold*. It's usually for more than two players. It's not anything supreme either, if you are looking for anything more than a very basic push your luck game.

if you watch and adhere to his reviews you will miss out on a lot. Try games before listening to a game snob like this pick them apart or else you will miss out on the real fun of gaming.

All the hate on this game. I like this game. For learning curve my 70 year old mother was able to pick it up and play. This review doesn't give a fair pitch on the game imo. The other review walks through a few turns which helps you understand the concept of the game. I do agree scrolls are skipped over and the rule book is wtf. But, I picked up the game at Barnes and Noble. 50% off. The three other friends that I've shown this two enjoyed it. I'd say give it a try before sending it down the river.

Tried this game out on a whim, had a lot of fun with it. Yes, it's not the most indepth game but they all don't need to be. Any game can look bad in a review if you pick it apart enough. Yes, the rule book can be improved but there is a lot of fun in this game as what it is, which is a fun pick up game. It will never be D&D but all games don't need to be. Seems like this guy is too full of himself to understand that fact.

My son and I LOVE Dungeon Roll and there's a lot of replay value (especially with the expansions)... But, I just don't get it with this game. It looks like they took Dungeon Roll, took away the dice, put in cards and made the game WAY more complicated. I'm out.
@markiv29429 жыл бұрын
Ok? What's ok about it? It looks poor, really poor. It isn't even close being anything but some kind of bingo card game. I never understand games where the only element there is push your luck.

This looks so incredibly boring. Just to me though, it could be loads of fun for all I know.
