I just remembered that delirium is addictive to magicians and that probably plays a big role in why the academy is so reluctant to destroy even the tiniest bit of it, the higher ups are most likely snorting that stuff like there's no tomorrow.

I remember when I was catching up on the first campaign last year and I found Drakkenforce’s “betrayal” of the Silver Order after the battle for Temple Gate to be really difficult to stomach. That is, I get why Sebastian then, as now, drove complete trust in the Academy but I didn’t like how the Silver Order was so quickly cast aside (and felt like maybe Veo or Pluto would have had more reason to stand with the Order). I really liked this return to Drakkenforce as Veo and especially Pluto are now openly skeptical of granting the Academy carte blanche. It felt right to see Pluto openly suggesting that destroying delirium with the Silver Order was a viable or even preferred path. It felt like the decision made in Cathedral many moons ago was made even harder here, even if it seems unlikely that they can depart from the Academy at this point. I’ve also just gotta say that I have loved reading the alpha pdf and am pumped for my table to play next year. Already have players asking for background from the book to think through their characters. Ran my first campaign as a DM this summer and am now running Dragon Heist as a way to practice running factions. I think it might be time to join the Patreon and get in on the discord conversations around running Drakkenheim.
@elementzero33794 ай бұрын
It was a shame to see the Silver Order depart. In my opinion, they and the Academy have the only acceptable plans. The delerium must be either contained and neutralized, or destroyed. (Lucretia might be right that the world is doomed. More advanced civilizations have failed to save themselves. Yet, it's a fight that must be fought.) That said, the Silver Order chose to depart. The Academy was willing to work with them, but the Silver Order was completely unwilling to trust mages, even when those mages are pledged to the Edicts of Lumen. If they'd at least agreed to a temporary cooperation, they could've been working toward both containment and destruction of delerium, respectively, rather than preparing for war. The Silver Order's unyielding obstinance led to a worse place. The issues at hand were honestly too big to be decided in an abandoned cathedral in Drakkenheim. A larger discussion should've been had by the cosignatories of the Edicts of Lumen. Of course, unless the player characters push for that, it would never happen. This is D&D. The story is rightly shaped by the players' actions.

The Academy has shown that they can neutralize and repurpose delerium. They're the best hope the world has for understanding it and mitigating the threat. The Silver Order, and presumably other knightly orders of similar mindset, are right to want to destroy it. How would they go about it? Smashing it piece by piece isn't going to suffice. If they can manage to destroy it quickly, efficiently, and on a grand scale, that would be ideal. Lucretia isn't crazy. She's probably right. At least two far more advanced civilizations -- the humans in Sebastian's vision and that of the elves, failed to save themselves. Even though they have to try, the peoples of the world may very likely be unable to save themselves from this. Lucretia's plan only gets sketchy with metaphysical gibberish at the end. When the world blows up, what then? She seems to think that the multiverse will be bathed in the light of the Sacred Flame, somehow endowing the masses with spiritual enlightenment. It seems more likely that the world will simply send fragments of delerium once more hurtling through the void. The planets hit by inert, golden delerium get lucky. The others hit by standard delerium, whether from this world or from the others suffering their own delerium apocalypses... wel, the horror continues with them. There's no clear cut, good answer.

A good point was made about there lacking leadership in the group. Sometimes it feels like they are 3 dogs connected by leashes taking a walk. They think they are being guided by their owner but the owner ain't there. The only one giving them any guidance is the tension they put on the leashes between them. Veo stops at every snack, Sebastian is headed to where he thinks he buried his toy, and Pluto wants to chase skunks. I'm glad Pluto was more assertive this week in voicing his displeasure about how the others talk about treating those they made alliances with. Gotta ease Sebastian from going into a dangerous yard looking for his toy.

Yeah, I’m kinda hoping Wilhelm shows up soon to straighten things out before Sebastian convinces the rest of the party to make a bad decision (I guess it shows what a good role-player Kelly is to play such different characters where I’m hoping one will stop the other from doing something foolish). I’m also thinking the Elyrians destroying the place is the best choice, but it’s not the Academy’s profit motive that’s scaring me, but rather their arrogance and hubris. Honestly, the more Sebastian talks about the force field plan, the more even the Queen of Thieves sounds like even she might be a better option than the Academy.

They need a new Edicts of Lumen. But this time there are 4 factions involved. Each of the involved factions needs to gain something form the relationship that can only be gained by through the relationship. This also has to work under the existing Edicts. This idea is predicated on the truths of delerium: 1. left unchecked it will destroy the world/universe. 2. represents a powerful source of energy for magic 3. can be miraculously transformed into a force for the light and is as such sacred Basic Structure: Drakkenheim Nobility (Wolfgang and Veo): Granted/maintain ownership of the city of Drakkenheim and the throne. Responsible for guaranteeing access of all other parties into the city. Amethyst Academy: Granted ability to mine delerium from inside the city in return they will 1. Implement the prismatic shield and 2. pay a royalty to the Drakkenheim for the extraction of the delerium and a tax to the Sacred Flame. Will provide support to the Sacred Flame through the Elven ruins to search out and eradicate delerium concentrations outside of Drakkenheim. Falling Fire: Granted unrestricted access to the city protected by Drakkenheim Nobility and funded through the AA royalties. Making a martyr of Lucricia is a very bad idea, plus the purification of the deleriumm is truly a miracle with the ability to save the universe. Lend relics in their possession to the Sacred Flame to resurrect the dragon. The censure of St. Vitruvio is critical to their act of purifying the delerium so they must be given it back. Their duty through faith is to purify delerium to spread the light into the universe. Sacred Flame: Search for rouge delerium in the world to eradicate it funded by the taxes paid by the Amethyst Academy. Recognize Falling Fire as an authorized (non-heretical) sect of the Sacred Flame. Recognize that Drakkenheim Nobility is in rightful possession of the city and withdraw their army. Drakken Force will provide them with the diamond needed to resurrect the dragon, which they will control. Lucricia will assist in the resurrection. Wolfgang is key to this. He will name Pluto's Nephew as his successor to the throne. This is the concession to house Jackson, which will be given the eventual royalties for their immediate protection and securing of Drakkenheim's boarders. The Queen of Thieves isn't playing by a structure other than what gives her power, so it's hard to work her in, so I won't, but she will profit out of this arrangement through blackmarket trade in delerium so it isn't bad for her.
@anonymouszebra12393 жыл бұрын
This looks pretty much as good as I can think up, but many factions will typically object to not getting *everything* that faction wants. Every faction has an individual incentive to be selfish at the expense of the other factions and the world. E.g. I can imagine Eldrick (idk how to spell it) not letting ANY part of the falling fire stay in the deal because they view them as a threat to the academy’s goal of total domination. Maybe the only way to get a true compromise is for the party to become so powerful that they can basically threaten everyone into accepting a compromise. 😂. This campaign is so real but also so hard!!! So well done with politics but also idk what I’d do as a player. It’s torturously awesome

Best possible outcome, Amethyst Academy initiate operation super shield. The Silver Order and Falling Fire rejoin forces to hunt down delirium that has gotten outside of Drakkenheim and convert it to yellow delirium. The Amethyst Academy open gates to infected worlds and allow the Falling Fire to make pilgrimages to 'seed' the infected worlds with the converted delirium. The spread of delirium is halted, the academy gets to study delirium, the Silver Order gets rid of 'all' the 'unregulated' delirium on the planet, and the Falling Fire gets to spread their brand of salvation. Everybody gets what they want, if not HOW they want it.

The AA then goes and offers them a deal of helping them do the thing, but with some rights given to themselves for the use of delerium. They kill two birds with one stone, draining an opponent of resources while still being able to study and improve upon the use of delerium.

Do you think it would be much work to put Drakkenheim into the world with Forgotten Realms pantheon?
@DungeonDudes3 жыл бұрын
A really important factor in the Drakkenheim campaign is that the gods are silent and distant, and don't operate in the world or speak directly with mortals. You can easily use the FR pantheon, but having the gods actively involved in the world could create some plot holes.
@alexinfinite71423 жыл бұрын
@@DungeonDudes it would be a extra unnerving if the gods were very active up to the point when the meteor fell. Then, after delirium arrived, the gods go radio silent. THAT would be really spooky

The issue with this kind of political faction intrigue is that there's only so long you can go without choosing ONE faction above the others before they WILL put you to the corner of having to decide. In this case almost NO faction is willing to be second place and they all consider the other factions too dangerous, problem is? THEY ALL ARE! Great game Dungeon Dudes!

how is Veo staying in shape with snacking habits eating all the time? a person could use snacks aginst Veo as her weakness like for example cake that could be poisoned.

Cats have extremely high metabolisms in reality, and in most D&D art are portrayed as excessively thin/lanky. Though I think a self-indulgent sassy fat cat would be a fun tabaxi to RP.

A question they should all be asking themselves... If Lucretia knew the ritual to bring back the dragon, doesn't it follow she knew about the diamond, making the delirium superfluous?

With Starwars wrapping up and the Alpha available, I might be starting my own Drakkenheim game soon. Is there a spot on the discord to share how horribly my players get mutated?

We have the Drakkenheim GM chat, which for the time being is for questions on running the game, or stories about events that happen in your games.

Spoilers sorta Boy oh boy, Eldric is a visionary no doubt. But his arrogance and hubris in the academy's ability to handle the containment is staggering, everything he claims to have planned and wants to do and believes could be done all hinges on success after success, he almost doesn't seem to believe failure is possible, which is incredibly worrying

Just out of curiosity anyone know there alignments ? Not sure how Monty runs that aspect of the game but I got to think with some of the left field decisions they have made with these characters. I wonder if there have been any alignment shifts from the beginning of the campaign .

I think they don't use alignment at all

Wow what a roller coaster. Spoilers below: My take from this is that it highlights the importance of nobility/king to balance the powers of the church and academy. Giving the perfect geode to either the academy or the falling fire leads to a dystopic future, and doing nothing leads to certain doom. Ophelia just offered an interesting balance: the golden dragon using a perfect diamond instead of the geode. If she can make peace with the falling fire to awaken the dragon while the academy builds the containment field, the two powers will be balanced within the city. To pull it off and to force a truce between academy and church, someone probably needs the power of the throne (the Willhelm wild card?) I am surprised that the academy shows so little interest in researching golden delirium and the process of jamming delirium into the heart to get haze resistance. A divine soul sorcerer doing such research would be a very cool ambassador between those two factions.

1. We must betray Lucretia with the academy. 2. We should trust Ryan, who want to get rid of the edicts and have mages with the power. 3. Eldrick offers house Jackson to power to rule. 4. We can trust mages with massive delirium power because they promise to do good with it.
