My comment was because in D&D Minotaurs have an innate ability to never get confused by mazes (which is an obvious homage from the original legend of the Greek Minotaur, although amusingly the whole idea of the Labyrinth was that it was supposed to be so fiendishly complex that the Minotaur would never be able to find its way out).

I think they'll be fine. It looks like the group on the other side is meant to get killed off one by one to show the threats of the maze, it would be redundant to have the cameo group serve the same purpose. Edit: After watching the movie, I'm even more sure that they're fine. Look at what our movie protagonists did from their perspective. Suddenly showed up, said something that didn't immediately make any sense, and then disappeared. Who else did that? Dungeon Master. Cameo group always figures out what to do after being given a weird hint by Dungeon Master. They will definitely be fine.

The moment I saw the Displacer Beast's tentacles, I felt a chill down my spine and thought "Oh no..." Such an excellent portrayal of a classic monster. I especially like how they showed how it creates an illusion. I always pictured it as something about its fur or skin bent light in a weird way to make it appear like it's somewhere slightly further away, but I never thought of the tentacles being projectors it used actively. What a great movie.

He doesn't exist in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting. Edit: What I mean is, Dungeon Master and Bobby's pet unicorn Umi did not follow them into the Forgotten Realms, probably because they can't. The Realm, the name of the D&D world they were in during the 80's animated series, is not the same as the Forgotten Realms, there is more than one world in the D&D multiverse.

The truth is those kids have journeyed through more than one D&D universe trying to find a way back to Earth (The show you grew up with where they started their journey from is set in The Realms, a completely different D&D universe), and this movie is set in the Forgotten Realms, the exact same D&D universe as the Baldur's Gate games, R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt books and so on.

Here's my theory: Forge is actually a player character went rogue (no pun intended). The others couldn't come gaming for months (hence the 2 years timeskip during the reunion) while Forge kept playing and leveling. Then when the party was about to get together again, the DM came up with the idea of making him an antagonist, using all the dodgy bits of their capture and allying him with the main villain.

I LOVE the way they made this movie. Focusing on the campaign, in the world, not on the people playing it or the fact that it's a game. And it does so perfectly. How many times did me and my friends call out the name of a spell, or the roll we thought they got ("ha-ha, low initiative" said our DM when they sat in front of the Displacer Beast as it came up). All the way down to the way the actors seemed for the most part like average joes in fantasy garb and acted a little bit "worse", like amateurs roleplaying. The one-liners and sequences that would cause the table to erupt into laughter. I can picture it all and they knew this and didn't show it. It's perfect.

There's probably a bunch of businesses who employ mages as construction crews, like a magical equivalent of the people who build sports arenas and theme parks in our world.
