I saw an interview with a WW2 mustang pilot who said he had the opportunity to talk with a WW1 pilot before he entered combat and was told the best time to shoot down a plane is when it's trying to shoot down another plane, so when your diving in on an enemy to always look behind you before you engage. That piece of advice saved his life.

Notice how Hardy's character lowers his goggles with the anti-glare lenses above as he closes on the He-111 as it has two gunners capable of firing to the rear and thus the Spitfire might get hit causing fragments and the goggles could save his vision. Nice touch IMO.

this is one of my fav movie for two reason: 1.this movie is very realistic. tactics, squadron size, the way each plane fights, and the overall fighting scene. 2.almost no bias is in this movie, especailly usa is not in this movie. unlike movie like redtail, midway. this movie is fair for both side. Good ww2 air combat movie that are not bias toward usa is really rare to find today

High Flight by John Gillespie Magee, Jr. 1941 Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds, - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there, I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air Up, up the long, delirious burning blue I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or ever eagle flew - And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God

You are right, hundreds of Polish Pilots did fight in the Battle of Britain, Certainly they made a Massive Contribution. They were never made to feel welcome in these Islands after the war, Neither was there any proper recognition given to any of the pilots of any Nationality, Many who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of democracy and freedom...... Shameful Indeed.

@@andrewwasowski5563 "Hundreds" during the course of the war, yes, but not during the Battle of Britain: Only two Polish squadrons were active during that period (302 and 303) and there were some Polish pilots in other squadrons, but not enough to be described as "hundreds".
@andrewwasowski55633 жыл бұрын
@@angelonunez8555 you are Correct to say that it was two polish squadrons active in the Battle of Britain 🇬🇧 plus a number of Polish Pilots dispersed to other squadrons. What May not be so comely known is that the "kill" rate for these squadrons was well above the Average of non Polish Squadrons, Maybe because the Average British Pilot just wanted to down an Aircraft, Were as the Polish Pilots not only wanted to down the Aircraft but see the pilot dead as well. Brave Brave men on Both sides doing what they felt was their Duty Only for the Polish Pilots it was Playback time for the atrocities Committed back in their Homeland.

Whilst this is probably the worst narrative of Dunkirk from a historical sense . Its good that theRAF have been included in the story. That was overlooked by many at the time. The troops thought that the RAF had not turned up. And there was even some hostility. This was far from the truth. But most of the time they were either too high or not directly over the beaches to be seen. Some Dunkirk narratives have reinforced the myth by not mentioning the RAFs contribution

@@TheKobinian What more would you want sir? Spitfires are officially recorded as accounting for more enemy aircraft during WW2 than any other British or American designed aircraft. Further, the Spitfire is one of the very few aircraft that was with regular upgrades able to fight from the first day of WW2 (03 September 1939) to after the last day. No American 'plane can make that claim. One of the very few others that could was it's bitter rival the Me109. That said I've never heard of an Allied pilot who said he would rather fly an Me 109 than a Spitfire. For me and many others, lest we forget, the Spitfire and I've seen them flying many, many times, and the Hurricane, who together with some guts and good leadership gave NAZI Germany it's first ever military defeat, are the truest symbols of our liberty and freedoms.
