Dunlop Trailmax Raid Tyres True Review tested on unsealed roads

I was recently asked to test the all new adventure tyre by Dunlop namely the Trailmax Raid, a 50-50 adventure bike tyre aimed at the Pirelli Scorpion tyre also a 50-50 tyre, which has been around now for a number of years.
Not to be mistaken with the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR a very much more Road biased type of tyre standard fit on the Yamaha Tenere 700 and Aprilia Toureg 660.
I've been using the various Adventure Bike approved tyres on the many varied manufactured Adventure Bikes that I've been riding as you will see on this Channel with my World Tours, UK Tours and ride outs in Scotland most Sundays all year round. Covering copious miles along the way.
I intend to provide you with a rounded synopsis of the tyres performance in various criteria, whilst riding them on a BMW R1250 GS, over varied road surfaces both sealed and unsealed in wet and dry conditions.
I will judge the Dunlops on various criteria viz:
(i) Handling (ii) Wear (iii) Grip (iv) Look & (v) Noise.
This information will be collected over a couple of videos which I'll post on this Channel.
ln this particular video I provide onboard camera footage whilst riding on an unsealed gravel type "Roads less Travelled" stretch of single track road with puddles and challenging changing surfaces. Which require a different riding style from a normal sealed tarmac road as is said the adventure begins when the sealed road ends.
I have previously published the tyres performance whilst being ridden on the same motorcycle on a wet sealed single track road which was peppered with wet leaves, gravel and puddles.
MY CONCLUSION AFTER RIDING OVER A THOUSAND MILES ON THESE TYRES ON VARIED ROADS SURFACES AND CONDITIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS :-
(i) HANDLING :- HIGHLY RATED BOTH ON BOTH WET AND DRY ROADS.
(ii) WEAR :- WITH THE HIGH SILICA CONTENT WEAR IS SLIGHTLY DOWN BUT ACCEPTABLE.
(iv) GRIP :- WITH THE HIGH SILICA CONTENT WAS FANTASTIC ON BOTH WET & DRY ROADS.
(iv) LOOK :- ON AN ADVENTURE BIKE, A MUST THEY LOOK AWESOME.
(v) NOISE :- SLIGHTLY UP ON A TRADITIONAL ROAD TYRE BUT NO WAY INTRUSIVE.
I'M CERTAINLY LOOKING TO BUY & RUN THESE TYRES ON MY OWN BIKE IN THE FUTURE...

Hi there thanks for your comment on my video. I generally use Subtitles on the Channel commenting to them on the CC Symbol onscreen. As you will see on the Channel I've ridden in 6 Continents most recent big trip Glasgow to China. These Dunlop tyres are way ahead in terms of current technology with their make up especially the high silica content. You will lose a bit of wear with heavy road use but we'll worth it for that extra grip and confidence you get over the Contis which were a vg tyre back in the day. My only bit of advice l say to my friends who ride when fitting a 50/50 tyre on the front give it a good 50 mile before it starts to round a bit with you after that you'll be fine. Hi probably 1500 kms front tyre doesn't look much different from when fitted new. Rear showing a slight bit of wear but as l said in my description these tyres are offering way more grip on sealed roads due to the high silica content. Hard to know your not riding an 80/20 tyre. So as l said previously I'm happy to lose some mileage to gain superior grip in both wet and dry conditions. C.B.

Hi there thanks for your comment re the mileage of the tyres. I will say to date the tyres which are on my BMW R1250GS Rallye have been OK for wear My other bike the BMW R1300GS is currently running the Karoo 4 tyres which are also a 50/50 split tyre so I'll be making comparisons on both. Hi Gabriel if your a regular to my Channel you will see that with Scotland's winter weather I ride my Tenere mostly these months especially with the snow etc so unfortunately I've not had the BMW R1250GS which has the Dunlops fitted out much but once the tyres have ran their lifespan I will post the longevity of them.
