I just broke up with my Vietnamese girlfriend the main reason is because she put pressure on me to please her family and try to manage my time and I’m someone that has a back bone and not afraid to hold back on my freedom at the same time I was giving her all she needed it and more but basically their relatives want you to hand over to every single thing that their culture demands and of course submit to it without any critical thinking at the end of you go along you will be mentally castrated

These are not the 7 mistakes when dating Vietnamese women, but the 7 problems. Culture is not an excuse to continue adopting bad dating habits. Especially when it's all about money: paying for everything, taking care of her, taking of her family, etc...
@gs2tab Жыл бұрын
There is give and take in this concept of fairness. The same culture promotes positive elements for women in a relationship such as care and family responsibility. Typically in Vietnamese culture the man is given, using your lens of fairness, much more freedom than would be fair, and a disproportionately low level of responsibility in domestic and family care. The point of this video is to try to understand the culture, so in the context of dating in Vietnam, these are indeed mistakes.

I was talking about ppl who have nothing going on in their life no home no job nothing ... They told her she was beautiful and they wanted to get to know her. She never told them she had a boyfriend. It was years before we broke up on an extra FB account she created. So, I'm certain she was the cheater projecting her infidelity on to me. But I'm not jaded. I'm being introduced to a couple of Vietnamese women this weekend.

as always, it depends on each individual, even though most of these are true in my opinion. From my POV: - The guy should pay on the first date. If we plan to meet more often in the future, I'm willing to share. - Privacy: I don't have to know about every little detail of what my partner's doing with their life. If it's being loyal that the woman worries about, then they should find someone better who doesn't make her feel uneasy. It's also more like a person's mindset rather than culture thing. - Family: I dont' agree with this. my partner can form bonds with the family but letting them live under the circumstance of "marrying the whole family" is too much for them and even for me.

@@jaws2003 Written Vietnamese uses the Latin alphabet, it was created by Portuguese and Spanish priests when they came to Viet Nam as missionaries more than three centuries ago. The written language is phonetic. If you already know Spanish, it will be easier for you. The harder part is the different tonal accents for the same word. For that, it would be useful if you have a musical background. A Canadian friend of mine could do it right away. He was a member of a choir. What a wonderful video by such lovely ladies! Thank you for helping me avoid these mistakes! Personally, I would have made the mistake of letting the parents pay if they insisted multiple times because I wouldn't want them to feel like I am rejecting their generosity and maybe even making them feel like I think they need my charity. Here in Switzerland, this could be seen as rude. Also, I heard that Vietnamese women like to always check where their boyfriend is and what he is doing and I don't mind that but I didn't know this extended to passwords of all kinds and I thank you for the warning too. I would have nothing to hide from my girlfriend but it would certainly be a bit surprising for me at first, even though I don't mind it and think it's cute. Great job to all of you, your English is marvelous and your enthusiasm is contagious! Liked and subscribed :)

@Vietkieu3275 exactly since marriage is transactional why get into a business situation where you take on all liablities! How about a girl from a wealthy Vietnamese family? But you have to be high value already, especially in wealth.
@alfaromeo69857 ай бұрын
@@travysnazzy Let's face the reality here. 1) Most Vietkieu looking for a wife in Vietnam are due to the fact that they cannot afford Vietkieu females in the states, who have emulated their American sisters to be demanding and manipulating the legal system to clean out their soon-to-be exes. It is a mine field when things do not work out. 2) Many Vietkieu, due to their lower socio-economic, cannot find suitable partners among the local population who would meet their required age and look requirements. 3) Many other Vietkieu in their sunset years want to have a much younger wife....twenty to thirty years age gap. Paying for her family welfare is merely a business expense to make up for the age gap especially where they are well off and successful in the States. 4) Marriages in any culture/ethnicity are transactional as you pointed out. It is a contract between two parties. You give up this in order to get that. It is personal and varies from one individual to another. If the contract breaks both sides have their expectations which are not fulfilled either due to misleading and/or dishonest intention right from start.

@@gs2tab Yes, you need to be high value yourself to navigate with the upper class women. I was introduced to and married a lady in a middle class family with a very solid family tradition. Her family tree records have 15 generations of many noble mandarins going back to the middle of the 18th century. I myself am not wealthy but I have a PhD and can speak 3 languages. In the upper social strata, wealth is not the definitive winning criteria. Family tradition upbringing and high level of education are more important.

I'm an American living in the US. There are a lot of Vietnamese girls who have immigrated here and have lived in the US for a number of years. (1) Do you think the expectations outlined in your video are true for expat Vietnamese girls living in the US? Or put another way, do you think they have become "Americanized"? I get the feeling, prior to going out on a 1st date with a lady in whom I'm interested that she still holds on to her native Vietnam values (she's from Saigon) and its customs and she isn't really feeling "Americanized". I want things to go smoothly. Do you have any additional thoughts on the subject matter? (2) I'm a generation older than she is. She's in her 50's and I'm in my 70's. I'm not feeling that the numerical age difference is any big deal with her. Do you have any thoughts about age disparity? (3) We're planning on having a nice dinner at a restaurant that specializes in Thai, Loatian and Vietnamese cuisine (as opposed to a 'fast food' fried rice and sushi place). I'm thinking she'll enjoy that. Any thoughts? (4) After a 1st date, would a kiss goodbye be appropriate? Or is that considered too 'forward'? Thanks.

1) Culture does not change much for an adult expat. Being born and raised in the US is different. Those will behave more like typical Americans. 2) Age difference should not be a factor for people over 50. IMO. 3) Should be OK. 4) No kiss. I don't kiss my Vietnamese wife in public. Once I held her waist walking at a Têt festival and people were staring at us. You are lucky if she let you hold her hand after 3+ dates. Good luck.

Isn't the Vietnamese girlfriend supposed to train her foreigner boyfriend upfront in regards to how to act when her parents or elders are around, or whether to pay the entire dinner bill or not and how not to fall in the trap? If I am going to introduce my Vietnamese girlfriend to my parents, I will properly train her beforehand as to how to greet them, how to sit, how to talk and what not to say.

I was so very lucky she chose me to be her life partner. I never thought I would marry real nobility. I did not know this level of ancient high social strata until I marry into this family as I am a grandson of a farmer.

Practically all topics are ok for me. Except for #6 is a BIG contentious topic between my VN girlfriend and I. I tend to be extremely affectionate in public due to my culture & personal upbringing while my GF is reserved when she is outside. Flirting In front of Parents/siblings i can understand that would make her uncomfortable. However I feel no shame with a bit of flirting in public / around acquaintances. So basically I feel sometimes rejected even after all these years.

Goodday Trang, Congratulations on your new video & wish you & all the girls all the best going forward. Yes I was in a relationship with a Vietnamese girl for 2 years here in Australia. Very challenging, but also once you understand the Vietnamese culture it was a fantastic relationship with loyalty and honety. Unfortunately her visa ran out & returned to Vietnam & since married & has had 3 children. We are still friends secretly. One big deal about marrying a Westerner is having mixed baby which is highly regarded in Vietnam. Is this still true. Your number 1 Fan in Australia Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤

@@stevenfisher2804 Bui Vien is fun to experience, but 1) It has been through some changes during the scamdemic, and may not be the same when you and I are allowed back in, and 2) Unless you're seeking bar girls and "Paid relationships" you'll do far better by looking in other places -- language classes/exchange, international gatherings, and even parks or shopping malls.

Dating sites and girls you meet at bars are rarely quality material. Try NGO's doing charity work, church activity groups or similar organizations where you can meet volunteers. Buddhist temples are best, but you have a serious language and religious barrier unless you are lucky enough to meet somebody who is an English teacher, somebody educated enough to be fluent in English, or who studied abroad. Aim for middle class social strata or higher, instead of bar girls. Or get personal/business introductions into a good family Just be aware you may be dealing with someone (a lot) richer (million+ USD) and more educated than yourself (Masters, PhD). I myself married somebody from an old aristocratic family by introduction. Good luck.

There are mistakes vietnamese women doing when dating western guy: - expecting man will pay all from day 1, aprt of that we want to test her she is humble and not only money oriented [this is TEST do not get trapped] - man will ask you what you want to do or what is your plan to see you are indepedent and have hobbies - we love showing affection on public - that means we really serious with you and want to show to public you are the ONLY one. - we will respect your privacy and expecting the same because we are raised in the way that "trust" is foundation of relationship - do not get into situation you in hidden check his wallet, phone or even corespodence etc.. You can ask him but respect refusal - Western man usually well educated and mannered ready to pay for lunch for you and familly - we straighforward - do not test us, if you want to pay and insist of paying we respect you and simple let you pay.

Vietnamese culture is so close to the Egyptian and Arab culture in general. The man is the one who's providing everything from A to Z to his future wife. The Arab man feels insulted and bad if his wife pays even a small dime. However, the only difference is that the husband here has no full responsibility at all for the wife's family issues. If the husband can solve or offers help to his wife's family problem, so be it, a huge respect to him. But the husband is not forced to do so. The husband's top priority is his own family and house.

First off, how it is related to global business consulting? Then paying for a girl?? Well, your audience is not all sexpat!! I really feel offended when I see that! And why not a video "dating a vietnamese man?". Oh yeah I forgot... sexpats, right? And yeah, it looks like everything is related to money when it's about dating a girl in your opinion!

Haha.. what the hell? All I hear is pay this pay that, pay pay pay as its for gaining face. oh ok... But what kill me and is a major deal breaker. Your jealous GF need to have access to your smart phone.. and must know your password to your phone, FB, Gmail etc... haha. My financial life and net worth, access to all my stocks and banking is on "MY" phone, so Forget that.. all she get a a boot from me and me on to the next candidate

That's the one rule I think is actually not so common. I don't know any foreign-Vietnamese couples who are like that. But it touches on a major factor for the importance of transparency. Jealousy is wild in Vietnam. Girls are super super jealous. It's probably because cheating (of all kinds!) is so common in the culture. It's also common for 1) Vietnamese men to transition their perception of their wife to simply the mother/carer of the kids, and 2) be sexually inexperienced when marrying. This increases their desire to play around, whether it be paid or not. Divorce is uncommon mostly because of the pressure on Vietnamese women; they are expected to stay loyal and keep the family together. In a divorce, women usually get the blame. They can even be blamed for the infidelity of their husband. So this allows men more freedom to try to fool around. Prostitution is ridiculously common too. It all comes down to proving that you have nothing to hide.

So are you saying there's no such thing as casual dating among men and women in Vietnam? All the women are geared towards serious relationships and eventually marriage? What about after marriage? Do Vietnamese people still hang out with friends? Can wives go out "just girl's night out?" What about guys hanging out? Not everything has to be sexual in nature in Western mentality.
