I love how Michonne can tell Rick what to do without much pushback. We've seen her do it before, this was a big moment. We've never seen something just straight override Rick's authority like that and the fact that he doesn't really fight against it shows how much respect he has for her and how much influence she has over him. He really does listen to her and they can communicate without saying a word, just by looking at each other and read each other well (actually, the scene where Rick punches Aaron is probably the only time he goes against Michonne, so far. They share a look right before, while looking at the pictures, and after the punch she tells him "Just so we're clear? That wasn't a 'Let's attack that man' look. It was a 'He seems like an okay guy to me' look"). It's interesting that when you see Michonne telling everyone that they're going to Alexandria, not only did no one object (which shows the respect they have for her to allow her to take control like that) but while everyone's looking at Michonne, Carol is looking at Rick to gauge his response to what Michonne's doing... The broken places that the rest of #TeamFamily are going through, Michonne's already gone through it (she's kinda ahead of the curve) and since her epiphany after the fall of the prison, she's officially come out on the other side of that darkness. She's been watching the rest of the group and she knows that they've been there too long. It started when she was listening to Carl trying to teach Father Gabriel how to survive. The final trigger though was Glenn. When she saw the mentality of Glenn in WHAWGO, the man who's the moral compass and full of compassion become so jaded, angry and broken, that's when she knew that they've definitely been out there to long and something the change. *Cue Washington Speech*. When Michonne is speaking to everyone, both as a group and individually, she's speaking wisdom from experience. She's already been where they are and she's trying to save them from themselves the same way they saved her. If that means taking charge, then so be it. Rick's not the only Alpha (and leader) in that group and we saw that when they first met and he tried to get information outta her by force and it didn't work... You're right about Michonne balancing Rick. Hershel may have been his moral compass, but I always refer to her as his anchor. She keeps him grounded and I believe without her, he'd be all over the damn place. That tiny moment where they're in the car in front of the gates and Rick hears the children's voices, when Michonne comfortably holds his hand and ask "You ready?", you can see the relief wash over him. It almost like she's constantly stabilizing him. On the flip side, you can see that he not only trusts her, but wants her to be "okay." Back in WHAWGO, you notice a shift in the friendship. Michonne is really affected by the loss of Noah's community. Now Michonne's not often comforted on the show by others. She's usually does the comfortably, usually verbally. In this episode, you see Rick very subtly touch her as they walk pass each other. Or touching her arm when he wants to talk and check up on her. That's a long way from her saying "Don't you ever touch me again" when they met back season 3. Their dynamics is slowly but surely evolved, slowly but surely, over the past few seasons. The scene where she's talking about Washington, he pretty much has to choose between Glenn (No Washington) and Michonne (Washington). He sees that Michonne is NOT okay. His trust in her, despite her argument being based on a hunch, and her not being "okay" triggers the final decision... Their dynamic can probably be summed up in a small moment between them in the season 4 finale. While the group is their way to Terminus, the day after Rick bit Joe's neck out, Rick ask her "You okay?" She responds, "Yeah". Without her asking, he reassures her and simply says "I'm okay." She respond, "I know." Surprised by her response, he asks "How?" She tells him, "Because I'm okay, too." Their friendship and dynamics is one of favorites of the series...

You're right, Lacey. It's all about finding the balance. Rick is a good leader. He may not be the greatest, mind you, but it's an apocalyptic world, so like he said "the rules keep changing" for him, and it's hard to keep up, and keep his people safe. Rick wasn't about to take any chances on Aaron (and considering the groups he's come across, who can blame him), but Michonne is cautious, and is always cautious. Rick listening to her, and to others; taking their advice into account; making the hard choices, but allowing himself to be talked down if necessary, is what makes him a leader I would follow. "Even though you were wrong, you're still right." If anybody knows the truth of that, it's Carol. Great episode! I like the tension of not knowing what Aaron is all about. Is Alexandria as safe as he claims it to be? 😊🌺🏝️❤️

Michonne is the good angel😇on Rick's shoulder. Shane is the bad. They reiterate this by showing Shane at several points for Rick. Michonne represents the hope that you would desperately have to hold onto in this world. Or you really would be The Walking Dead. Shane (or the bad angel)😈 represents what this world can be; trust no one, we first always. Sound familiar? If we weren't following Rick& co. from the beginning, they would seem like the bad guys. But "even though you were wrong, you were still right."

There is actually a good reason for Aaron not to tell them where his camp is. Even though he was listening to them, and watching them, you never really know people. To him, Rick and his group are mostly strangers. What if they change their minds and plan an attack on his camp? What if they actually have more people somewhere further away and this is where they were going. He thinks to know enough about them, to bring exactly the people he saw, and believes in, to his camp, on his terms. Not to tell a group of strangers where the people he cares for live so they can do it on their terms. From his perspective it makes absolute sense not to tell them. Always think about Stranger danger, just as Rick does it.

Them. At the end of this episode, it showed us the other meaning of what the title of the previous episode meant and the theme it's been showing since the beginning of this season: Us vs. Them (them being people). And in this episode, to me it also meant the end of them as a group/family, surviving together, alone and on their own. Now, in Alexandria, they are gonna be a part of this new community. They're not off on their own anymore. And as you just saw, there are other people surviving behind secured walls. And you heard little children laughing inside as well which could be a very good sign but let's not forget Woodbury was the same and it had a guy who seemed nice and seemed like he care for his people but we know that was just all for show. He was a two-faced, crazy creep. Rick is definitely on high alert as he should be. And Carol's right. Even though Rick was wrong about Aaron, Rick could still be right and shouldn't let his guard down. Just as he's told Carl back at Gabriel's church in 5x02, "I need you to hear what I'm about to say. You, are not safe. No matter how many people are around or how clear the area looks. No matter what anyone says, no matter what you think. You are not safe. It only takes one second. One second and it's over. Never let your guard down. Ever." This episode also marks a new chapter in their lives. Catch you guys on Friday! PEACE! - Yvette

I really enjoyed the post-episode discussion. So many important, relevant questions. And I just have to sit here and say nothing about them. As for this episode, I loved it. Survivalist Rick is taking ZERO chances after Terminus. I truly believe that without Michonne speaking up, Rick would have steered the group away from Alexandria. He's that paranoid and mistrusting (which would have made for a great "What If" episode, if the show did that kind of thing). We learn quite a bit about Arron. For he has a very dangerous job. Searching for the "right" kind of people. Arron and Eric have a job that you'd think would have a high mortality rate. I think Arron's bonds of loyalty and love for Eric were more convincing than any photo or applesauce to the group. So more of a character study than plot episode. For the plot was: Group moves from barn to gates of Alexandria (Yawn). But the devil is in the details. Which is why I enjoy season 5 so damn much. Thank you once again for a wonderful reaction. I look forward to the next installment. Until then, keep on keeping on.
