*UPDATE* -- I FOUND THE STARTER! It's where you'd expect to find it at the rear of the engine on the passenger side. It's very buried, nestled between the exhaust and the engine block covered by extensive heat-shielding. You can see it in this linked video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZ6qmXhtbKmleLc beginning at 0:34. @kens97sto1714 жыл бұрын
The timing components on the back is not such a big deal. Generally speaking chain driven timing components last a very very long time IF they were designed properly and that's a big if unfortunately. Would have been better to be gear-driven like Cummins. And whoever the hell decided to use a wet tooth belt to drive the oil pump needs to be shot. What an absolutely idiotic idea. If they were going to do that they should have put it on the front of the engine where it was easier to get to. Dropping the freaking transmission to change a belt every 150,000 mi. There are some guys that would have used this truck for light duty hot shot, or courier vehicles because of the gas mileage. But they're going to put 150,000 miles on the car every freaking year. Absolutely idiotic. Not to mention the fact that when the thing goes in and that transmission gets pulled off how many things do you think the dealer is going to break screw up not put back together correctly when they do that work which ends up in yet another repair situation. Wiring harnesses not put back where they're supposed to be etcetera. Just stupid as hell

@Heatherder4 жыл бұрын
Chris Heffernan thats a stupid dealbreaker. Inspect your belts like u should anyways. Timing belts have been used to decades, just as important as oil pumps.
@ericarntson20354 жыл бұрын
@@Heatherder Timing belts aren't submerged in scalding hot oil and thus are not subjected to temperature cycles that vary as wildly as what that oil pump belt is subjected to - it's a "wet" belt. As for your other comment, good luck inspecting it; it's sandwiched between the engine and the transmission, thus requiring a removal of said transmission just to inspect it.
@Heatherder4 жыл бұрын
Eric Arntson alright eric lets think about this. Have you ever touched a timing belt on a freshly shut down engine? It’s hot. It experiences friction and its touching the cam and drive shafts. Metal conducts heat really well btw, its going to be nearly as hot as the oil. Most engines require removal in order to change water pumps, chains and oil pumps. Dropping a trans is a simple job on a lift and just as or easier than removing the entire engine, way less hookups to remove for starters. A wet belt is submersed in a cleaning, cooling bath of oil and is made from very durable umhw thats going to withstand it. Unlike a chain it needs no tensioning and it wont stretch as much, has less resistance as well. It makes perfect sense. Personally I think that all engines should use gears when possible. I dont like chains, but gears do require shaft and bearing housings all along the block and those bearings are wear items and can be difficult to change, require insane oil routing and if any of that fails with break just like a chain or a belt. In any case, the wet belt is in a much more controlled and reliable environment than a covered timing belt. Clean oil is never a bad thing for a component exposed to friction.

Honda has been using them for decades (since 1997) on the GC/GCV and GS/GSV small engines as well as the GX25 and GX35 (which should have also been GC not GX) OHC engines. The only thing that ever happens to these with any regularity is that a cold start with a too thick viscosity of oil could make the belt hydroplane and jump off of the cam sprocket, so Honda updated the valve cover to add guides. Being air cooled engines this belt is also subject to higher temperatures.

Where would the EGR valve be located on a 2022 GMC sierra 1500? Help please, anyone pointing in a direction would be helpful

Are these things really experiencing engine cooling issues? I saw a video with someone that only had a couple hundred miles on his and it overheated.

If it's the same one I saw, it looks like a programming issue with the front louvers. Hopefully just a software update to get early bugs out.

@@MasterJacks its weird they run hot, GM put a dummy gauge on the IP it isn't the actual coolant temp. but the engine likes to hang around 225 or so (According to OBD2 "Coolant 1 sensor") the IP gauge will move up to about 220, the louvers will be closed 99% of the time when stopped. they only open for brief periods when the engine gets over 225. I am hoping to a techlink to come out showing where the coolant sensors are located, "coolant 2" runs over 230..... i believe its the intercooler but that only has a 5psi cap so hopefully not. my understanding is that the LM2 does not have an actual thermostat. and that they stall the coolant to keep the temps up to improve efficiency. The 0w-20 oil works HARD in these engines with temps over 240 unloaded, 280+ when towing. sadly the LM2 has a designed lifespan of only 150K miles(according to the chief engineers).

@@cordellroberson532 thanks for sharing. It sounds like they're intentionally trying to keep this thing hot to keep the catalytst at optimal temp. I wonder if that may be causing them some early problems. Like you say, they're now regulating and directing coolant through "active thermal management" rather than a simple thermostat. It's complicated, but software updates will hopefully iron out early troubles.

Glow plugs what is this a 6.2 diesel.. I hope.. I'm glad you like your truck but good Lord there's nothing easy about that. Remember when straight 6's used to be easy. That makes a current a X15 Cummins easy to work on

Lol ohh my, you do realize other modern diesels use glow plugs right?
@Vickvineager4 жыл бұрын
You do realize all modern diesels have glow plugs? Most if not all have heated intakes as well. Even that X15 you speak of have glow plugs.

As a gm technician about to pull one of these motors at 15,000 miles for catastrophic engine failure I can tell you they absolutely suck to work on. God help me.
