Good ol EPA and their emissions equipment running dirty air back through the engine. Hell people can't afford to change it. Gotta spend 10k + on the fuel system every 100k on the lml. Probably so disgusted with it they don't even care if it has oil in it or not.

I bet you are the guy who has always had the money to buy what he needed yet complains about the price of everything & you are thankful for nothing! @mdouglas9060 just because oil use to be much cheaper per quart/gallon, the same rings true for people's income. Would you rather pay .60 cents for a quart of oil on a $11,000 annual income OR would you rather pay $4 for a quart of oil on a $170,000 annual income??? By your initial comment I would not be surprised if you chose the first one! Just too tight for your own good. If you do not like prices of things so much then you need to do something about it rather than comment on YT. Firstoff you should start voting Republican, Contact your congressman, contact your Governor, contact Biden (afterall you probably voted for him) & make sure that your elected officials are indeed working for you, especially if you are paying heavily in taxes, own businesses or many properties!

Yep sounds about right, mechanics are some of the most self righteous dudes for always laying on their backs caked in dirt. I work in construction and whilst crews can be pretty vulgar and even corrosive, I've never seen the guys even talk about the customers behind their back. You ARE in business because people don't take the time, that doesn't make you better than them just like it doesn't make me better than a customer that needs a garbage disposal changed to a new one cause they didn't maintain it or don't know how it works beyind flipling the switch. You guys are notorious for being self righteous pricks, and that's coming from a guy that's worked with assholes on concrete crews. Always talking crap about your paying customers to every one except the actual current customer lol. Filming their vehicles and talking smack for your KZbin. You know something and people that don't care to know it are willing to pay you to maintain for them and fix their fuck ups, congratulations! I don't know at what point that made you think your superior to everybody that doesn't care to take apart their carburators! It's all real ironic cause not only are mechanics notorious for being socially vehement, but they are the biggest con artist! While you guys talk about how dumb your customers are, the customers talk about how many of y'all are gouging con artist. Even mechanics themself commonly have a running joke about telling their customer "you also need your blinker fluid changed" cause it's so relatable that they take advantage of customers lol.. You guys are a joke! Forever trashing mechanics like you!

What did you learn?! You mean that the manufacturers maintenance schedule is intentionally not near frequent enough LOF's so they can call it a selling point when really they are having you destroy your vehicle very quickly so they can sell you a new one?! Or the fact that all machines that have ever been built or will ever exist require regular and extensive maintenance and repair when necessary?! Or the fact that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure? Change your oil every 3,000 miles. No more than 5k ever and that is only if you run a high grade full synthetic with top dollar premium filter. Change you trans and all of your gear oil ever 30k, timing belts and all the timing components no later than every 100k that includes front engine seals. And chains every 200k or 250 at most if you keep it clean. Also as a general rule take care of you vehicle.

That's mild. Back in the '70s, I took apart a 350 that had the sludge in the shape of the valve covers with grooves where the rockers were moving. The sludge in the oil pan had a hole above the sump which allowed a couple of quarts of oil. There were grooves in the sludge from the counterweights and crank throws. The oil filter was a big 2 qt. unit and had to weigh 10 lbs. The company that owned it was an automotive paint supply and hadn't changed the oil since purchase, 40,000 miles, they just kept it topped up.

Consideration about engine hours is something I always press people to mind. Yes you may not have driven 10,000 KM on your synthetic oil, you may however have idled it well past that point. Sitting in your vehicle in -30 C with the heat on or +30 C in the summer with the AC on is runtime on that motor. Engine hours are key, you do not need a scanner on older vehicles to have a sense on if you’re over or under. If you’re idling lots, change your oil ahead of your intended schedule. If you own a newer vehicle, set a reminder to half of your scheduled alert. The math is easy to do, do a calculation know where you’re at. Something so crucial is more often than not overlooked.

So always buy full synthetic, and if you want to, mix it yourself, so you know the percentage. It is very difficult to get an engine back to being clean inside, once the oil changes are not done in time. The saying "runs like a well oiled machine" rings very true with cars.

I had a Dodge 318 that I changed the oil before 3000 miles religiously. Bought nice oil,our local celebrity mechanic Steve Overbeck preached change the oil as soon as it looks like root beer. I had 500 thousand miles on it when I bought a new truck. Still ran great but I wanted a 5.9 Cummins.

The worst oil I can recall being in anything I owned at the time. Was a 1984 Datsun/Nissan 720 king cab. Sure it was a $600 wonder truck that needed a carrier bearing, front and rear brakes, new belts, hoses, valve cover gasket, headlight switch and other odds and ends. Most of all was a oil change. First drain from the pan was about chunky with sludge. New filter and oil, ran it for 300 miles. Changed again. More sludge out. Repeat that four more times until the last change it was only a dark amber color. No tar black or lumps. Got criticism for "wasting money" doing oil changes at such short intervals. It was my money for one. Two, that engine came to me with 200k+ miles on it. I put another 180k before electrical gremlins caused a minor fire under the dash that made it not worth trying to repair again. Kinda wish I never got rid of it now, ah well.

A friend of mines dad used atf when he did oil changes like a couple quarts, run it for like 20 min then dump and use the new oil, he said it helped to clean while still keeping things lubricated. I dunno I’ve never had a car that I was willing to try it on and no one has ever come up with a proper reason not to do it. What do you think?

@@jadsr69 You'll get a whole lot of agreement from me on those z24 engines. Was the only four banger I ever drove that pulled hard on a uphill without a run up. No downshift just mash the go pedal and up it went. Love that pre 86.5 body switch. But there is something right nice about the post body switch king cabs in 4wd. Wasn't thrilled about the near transit bus hard seats but about everything else was good.

I get motors like that all the time too. Never once I have I seen one like that from following the manufacturer recommendations for oil changes (yes even the longer intervals) the only times I ever see that kind of sludge is on motors that have gone literal years and maybe never had an oil change. Not that it can’t happen from various reasons but 99% of the time on the extreme neglect cases. I recently had a Kia 2.4 motor like that. It had 60k on it and still had what was left of the factory oil in it. An auction car, I know big shock, some guy bought. Which was about a quarts worth of an almost liquid and pounds of mud.It had never once had an oil change. That kind of sludge takes extreme neglect like changing the oil after ridiculous miles have passed. Hell when I was in the military and stationed Europe in the early 2000’s they’ve had long oil change intervals for decades there (usually every 12-15k) on the various high mileage beaters I owned and the motors were fine. There’s also no oil change industry in Europe (jiffy lube and shit like that). So take that for what you will. It takes a little common sense if you’re hard on your motor towing all the time etc yeah change it a little more often but the manufacturer intervals are fine using good oil. That kind of more often than not takes the little old lady “you have to change the oil in these I have had it for years and never did” kind of horror stories. That being said it’s definitely not going to hurt it changing it more often but that kind of crap takes extreme neglect 9 times out of 10. I haven’t changed the oil in over 20k kinda neglect.

My dad always told me every 3000-3500 miles change your oil. He also said, once in a while at 4000 but to make a habit of 3k-3500 miles. I’ve driving for nearly 30 years, stuck to this method, never had oil issues. When I got my license in 1996 I drove a 90 Ranger 4 cyc. Still have it today with 400,000 miles. It had 90k miles when I bought it in 1996. I’ve kept up on all the basic maintenance (oil, coolant, spark plugs, brakes etc). Today I own and drive a 2015 Chevy Duramax. I still have the Ranger. It’s my little drive around town truck. By the way, my Chevy has 145k miles and drives like it’s still new. Bought it used in 2019 with 60k miles. Only thing replaced were brakes and glow plugs. I’m proud of these two trucks and I take very good care of them.

@JohnZombi88 Exactly. Modern full-synthetics, paired with an appropriate oil filter, extend the service interval greatly. There's no reason to do a full-synthetic oil change at 4k miles unless it's been a year or longer since your last change. You can if you want to but it's a waste of time and money.

Buddy of mine in high school back in the mid 90's asked me to help him change the oil in the truck his dad had recently given him. Said sure and he went out and gathered oil, filter, etc. and came over. Pulled the plug and nothing. We waited a while and nothing. Ended up having to use a stick to pull globs of what I believe was oil some years earlier. When I asked when was the last time his dad did an oil change, he stared blankly for a minute and said, man, I don't think I remember him doing that. So we did that for about an hour when a farmer that knew my dad stopped by and suggested filling it with diesel and running it up to temp and draining again as a flush. My buddy agreed so we did it. Still had a few chunks coming out but looked like oil that time. Put in the fresh oil and filter and he drove that truck for years till a deer jumped the road and finally finished it off. Truck was a 84-85 Isuzu P'UP with close to 250k on it. I guess it's true when they say they don't make them like they used to.
