Duramax Fuel Rail Plug how to install

This is a quick video on the install of a fuel rail race plug. The race plug makes it to where when you are tuned or pulling heavy your fuel rail won't release the rail pressure due to a spike. The race plug is a solid plug with no possibility of rail pressure release. there is also the shim kit that'll make it to where the release is way high but it will still blow in case of catastrophic failure.

I used a stubby 1/2 impact. 2 ft Braker bar wasn't getting it. All it takes is that initial shock to break it loose.

Well, you probably had an fprv code before the race plug, which an fprv code is not indicative of needing a race plug to begin with. Dont fret, I'm sure you've long since figured it out. The injection pump and fprv are not hard to get to, but it is indeed about a 6hr job. Make sure your harness and plug are good before changing it, and buy a good fprv, not some junk napa one.

When your fuel rail relief valve goes off, it throws a specific code dedicated to the truck recognizing that it has released due to sudden rail pressure drop. Mine did it the other day, I'm about to have a "work on my truck" day, have a few issues to deal with, and I'm going to check and see if it has a race plug or not. More than likely, I popped the relief valve and I'll be good with changing to a rail plug, but there's always a chance the fprv is bad, and one should know this before changing to a race plug as a bandaid.
