This went all the way to #3 on March 26 1983 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped open the floodgates for the Second British Invasion in the U.S. This was the first hit in the United States for this band from Birmingham, England. Duran Duran would go on to have a total of 14 Top 40 hits and plus two chart topping #1 hits in the United States (The Reflex and View To a Kill).

@@carolki1315 Yep. But the album was released in 1982. The song just didn't become a big hit until early 1983. Especially the video. When an album is released, sometimes the song is not released as a single right away. Sometimes it takes months for it to be released and to enter the Billboard Charts and to become a hit. When Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers released their first album in 1976, their first hit single, "Breakdown" didn't enter the Billboard Charts until December 3, 1977! I kid you not! But also sometimes, an artist's hit single is released and first enter the Billboard charts before the album is released. And the video too! I remember on a Saturday morning, May 12, 1990, I had just got home from my Grandparents' house, I was in the hospital on the night before due to a bad asthma attack. That Saturday morning, May 12, 1990, I was watching MTV and a new video of The New Kids On The Block song, "Step By Step" aired on MTV. The song was released as a single just two days before. And the VHS video of the same name was released on May 24, 1990. And the album of the same name was released on June 5, 1990. So it's strange that the album was actually released after the video! But you know what? I don't watch MTV or VH1 anymore. And I'm sure neither do you. Because they're not what they used to be. I don't even watch Cartoon Network anymore. Because cartoons they show nowadays are nothing but garbage! Just like today's music videos they show on MTV and VH1. Even MTV Classics! One of the only shows that's good on MTV Classics is I Want My 80's. I'll definitely watch that. That's good music right there. Especially classic rock from the 60's, 70's and 80's. Long live the 60's! Long live the 70's! And long live the 80's! Especially the music videos from those eras.

I'm so old that I remember this being the DD song that made me think they were going downhill, but I later realised DD had done well to have two of the best music video makers of the era involved with their earlier big hits "Planet Earth" (Russell Mulcahy) and "Girls On Film" (Godley & Creme) . "Hungry Like the Wolf" is really silly, and so is "Rio", so much so that they're almost campy; but hey, DD elected to go down the Teen Idol track (especially after scoring a US hit $$$ and who can blame them). I don't mind at all hearing HLTW these days on a play list of 80s hits. No Bryan Adams, that's all I ask. But the good old "they don't make music like this any more" - oh dear. There is ALWAYS good music, ALL the time, and the stuff that you find hard because it's ... challenging... might be the best of all. An open mind, keep an open mind.

When I got this 45 back in the day I took it into my room and blasted it at top volume, fully prepared to piss my parents off. Sure enough, my dad comes busting into my room. "What is this music!" he demanded. "Hungry Like the Wolf by Duran Duran," I said, sticking my lower lip out, ready to go into full snotty teen mode. "I LOVE IT!" he exclaimed. "This song is great! Tape me a copy of this!" Teen rebellion failed! It was kind of a letdown, but at the same time, a great bonding moment with my dad.

I was still senior in high school when we really got into their music. A friend of mine, his brother bought the album and then we were hooked. Loved this song, recall when it first hit the radio and MTV, yes, that programming station where they actually played music videos and not that BS that they do now. We even drove out from NJ to CT in a snow storm, a 4.5 hour drive, hoping not to miss the show and Duran Duran were delayed as well, due to the weather, but they came, put on an amazing show and we met some cool people before the concert. It was fun and all of this, the music, brings back amazing 80s memories. Very nostalgic.
