As promised, here’s my dust collection cart build using the Ridgid HD1400 shop vac and Dustopper separator. I was looking for something that would be modular and provide additional utility. I settled on this cart inspired by April’s design. You can find her video below:

This is a cool cart for the vac the only thing I would do to one up this is to add a exhaust port on the back to route the exhaust out . I connect a hose and run it out the door and it improves the the air Quality and keeps the temperature down. Great video 👍

I seen a filtered exhaust extension at the Depot. I may pick that up and vent it out the back. Good idea!

I made this cart yesterday (Oct23)and did exactly that. I used a large hole saw and cut a hole in the back. I placed it in line with the exhaust. I also applied a muffler I bought on amazon. I may add a few neatly designed narrow slots along the back & side to help vent the heat from the vacuum. Only downside to this design, is it's large and takes up a lot of space. I made it for a Ridgid 14 Gal. I wish I made it for a smaller vacuum.

Nice job! I like the size and French cleat addition. Going to make one for my small shop and will incorporate a lot of your ideas in mine. Thanks for sharing!

No worries! So far so good, unfortunately haven’t been able to capitalize on the French cleats yet but it’s definitely on my growing to do list.

I like how you square it off. Cheaper than the Rockler clamps a lot of people use

Works fairly well. I’ll probably end up getting some 90* clamping jugs from A Glimpse Inside. It can be a little fussy getting a clamp on a speed square.

Thanks for the video and the ideas you shared. Just wanted to suggest (for your safety) that you keep your hand clear when driving in brad nails. You might also want to protect your eyes with safety glasses and minimise the dust you breath in with a dust mask. Thanks again.

Thanks for the comment and the tips. I definitely need to get better about wearing a mask.

Good deal! Been using it for a couple weeks now and I’m pretty happy. If you completely block the suction off it’ll pull saw dust into your vac from the bucket. Also, the fuller the bucket gets the less effective it is. For the price, no complaints!

Good video, thanks for sharing. May I suggest a lapel mic for the “live” shots? It will even out the sound with the voice-overs. Good luck with the channel!

love the cart! do you have a cut list for the plywood?

Unfortunately not. I just measured around my vac and added an inch for the width/depth. For the height I just floated the bucket an “acceptable height” above the vac. I did design it on some free CAD software but since I was using the free version, I can only have 2 working files.

What is the base panel on top of the saw horses? New to wood working and not very familiar with what things are called yet.

Hey, Idk if i've missd this part of the video, but at the top of the structure, how did you go about making the ends rounded, instead of just points? Thanks!

Hey Adam. I just used a small paint can to draw a circle and cut it out with a jigsaw.

Also, you know how there's air that's blowing out the back of shop vac when it's in use? Is the performance of the shop vac not affected by the fact that that air is getting blown onto the back of your cart? Not sure if they way I'm typing this will make sense to you, but hopefully it does

There’s a fair amount of space/volume back there. Does it impact it a little… sure, but the vac is still strong enough to collapse the bucket of the hose is clogged.
